[Review] Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer
This is one of those books I've been meaning to read in ages, having had it recced by several people.

I'm now wondering why it took me so long to get around to it. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, am several chapters into the 2nd and got the rest of the series out of the library to work through - so in other words expect to be annoyed by reviews of the whole series.

There are several reasons why I loved this book. It's a fast and fun read, yet the plot isn't simple. The characters are very 3D and the banter is fantastic. Artemis reminds me of Quatre, though without his compassion and when he was in brat mode. It's a fairy story but with a difference, with explanations that make perfect sense within the context of the story.

Twelve year old Artemis Fowl is a millionaire, a genius - and, above all, a criminal mastermind. But even Artemis doesn't know what he's taken on when he kidnaps a fairy, Captain Holly Short fo the LEPrecon Unit. These aren't the fairies of bedtime stories - they're dangerous!

Book count 2008: 20
