Well, tomorrow is the day.
The Heroes fandom will be gathering in force tomorrow at noon for Picket with Heroes Day.  At least six actors have also confirmed that they will be there.  Also, mention was made at www.9thwonders.com about possibly getting fans from the Whedonverse involved, so three cheers to the Whedonverse fen.

That's about it from my corner of the world.

“BEST FANS EVER”
POST 1

I just wanted to say on behalf of the Heroes writing staff (occasionally, “The League of Heroic Scribblers”) how much we sincerely appreciate what all have you have been doing in support of the WGA’s cause.  More than that -- we’re touched by the level of dedication, imagination and understanding.

The emails, the posts, the 1000 Cranes (now looking more like 10,000!)... it’s an amazing show of support.  And it means more to us than any award or rating.

Each and every one of us would rather be back in that room on the 4th floor, eyes stinging from the dry-erase fumes, arguing about what Peter should do in the 3rd act.  It’s what we do -- it’s what we love to do.  None of us wanted a strike.  But we all know the issues are vital to the survival of the profession.  So we’re in this fight until it’s won.
But knowing we’re in that fight with our fans behind us makes all the difference.  All of us at Heroes have said many times how lucky we are to have the fans that we do.  That’s never been so evident as it is right now.
So for the time being I’m changing my Heroes sign off from the traditional one the writing staff uses to end every email -- “BEST SHOW EVER” -- to this:

Awesome news for Heroes fans! The Heroes writers just announce an impromptu Fan Day.

Location: GATE at UNIVERSAL CENTER DRIVE and LANKERSHIM (The one that leads up to the theme park parking.)
Time: Noon
In attendance: The nearly the entire writing staff along with Jack Coleman, Ali Later, Adrian Pasdar, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Christine Rose, and possibly a few more.

Stars Picketing
Pictures from the United Hollywood blog feature Desperate Housewives and Heroes stars picketing with the writers. (I checked back today, but doesn't seem like this has been posted yet. Smack me if otherwise.)

I just got a reply on one of my promos for this community in [info]heroes_tv. It covers a lot of interesting points from an actual WGA member's point of view that I wasn't aware of or had misinformation about.

Thanks to Kevin! )

As new distribution systems open up (direct download, etc.), the Guild wants the Producers to continue in the spirit of "Pay, in success". The Producers want to create the model of "small lump sum for services rendered, then go away". It's the old music model -- buy the poor bluesman a Cadillac and then own classic songs forever, etc. The problem is, they won't stop asking for free options, free drafts, etc.
What the writers are demanding (with an overwhelming majority voting to strike) is that when a writer is lucky enough and talented enough to create a successful work, that he or she continue to reap the benefits (2.5% of the net profits) along with the producers. Who knows when a writer will hit it out of the park again? Who wants to see a phenomenon, an unexpected, multi-platform, international hit be exploited by the many tentacles of an multi-national corporation, knowing that you, the writer in who's brain it may have been born (or even if you did a great job adapting from a book, etc.) have no part in the on-going success of the property?

1000 Cranes
1000 Cranes for Heroes

On November 5th, Kitty created the foundation cited above. The plan is to send the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers 1000 origami cranes as a means of support for the WGA. To produce 1000 origami cranes is a means to make a wish for peace and good health. Heroes fans mean them as a way to share their love and support for the writers who have given a bit of happiness to all of us.

Kitty is encouraging people to send letters with the cranes and is in the process of working out a letter to show solidarity of the fans.
