| About: | On November 5, 2007, the Writers Guild of America went on strike against the AMPTP. Their fans went with them. The Fans for the WGA (FFWGA) is a “ragtag fleet” of over 2,500 members representing over thirty different television shows and films. The FFWGA is committed to remaining in steadfast solidarity with the writers via organizing consumer and viewer protests, and spreading the message in a thoughtful and precise manner. We want to encourage fans to think of all the unemployed writers in the Guild whose livelihood depends on a new contract. The FFWGA is fighting not just for the Guild, but also for the Below the Line workers. This is way more than an 'inconvenience' in our television schedules. California is the world’s fifth largest economy in the world. A long-term strike will have devastating socioeconomic and cultural ramifications on Southern California – and the whole country. If history is any indication, the strike will be a long, hard struggle. We must ready and plan accordingly. Our goals are achievable, but the process won't always be fun or glamorous. We must pace ourselves. Precision and thoughtfulness are more important than haste. The FFWGA expects our operations to last at least six to seven months. For all the non-union production crew members, and for most of the Guild, we hope and pray we're wrong. Sincerely, Pen. The FFWGA's goal is two fold; one, to support the writers' moral through unwavering support, and two, to appeal to the network sponsors to pressure the AMPTP into settling the strike. We want fans, consumers, and viewers to "learn", "connect", and "support". Learn The WGA and AMPTP labor dispute is complex and murky; moreover, the information continuously unfolds. We want to help the fans sort through the rumors and fiction so they may understand the real issues. Staying informed in the best way to help the writers. Connect The FFWGA must strategize as the Hellenics did while fighting against Xerxes. We must play to our strengths and acknowledge our weaknesses. We must push aside personalities in order to work towards a common goal. Fan communities, websites, and blogs that support the writers have spread throughout the internet. Those forces must unite. United we can share information, keep up-to-date, delegate campaigns, and maximize our resources and bases. Support The FFWGA campaign will consist of making phone calls, sending in postcards, boycotting certain products, and circulating a demographic survey. It's split into three sections: Part I: "Fight the Power" or – How the AMPTP learned the importance of .08 cents. Part II: "Life without the Daily Show and Colbert" or – How the FFWGA crusaded against the Mass Media and Rupert Murdoch (and did not completely fail). Part III: "You Can't Stop Our Love" or – How Nick Counter did not steal the Fan's Loyalty this Christmas. Our sole purpose is to support the WGA, remain in steadfast solidarity, and keep the fans energized and organized. The strike reduces the safety buffer between the fans and the writers (or actors). We can call the various Guild headquarters. We can send letters and postcards directly to them. We can join the demonstrations; debate whether the Odyssey was or was not written by a woman between shouting rallying cries. That is both fantastic and frightening. Someone could get hurt. Therefore, if the FFWGA finds out any of the information posted in the livejournal or on www.wgasupporters.org is misused or exploited for reasons other than supporting the strike and securing fair compensation agreements for Guild members it will be removed. Moreover, we will track down the username(s) involved and alert all the necessary authorities. We will ban you from the community. This is nonnegotiable. It is not up for debate. I care about the writers receiving a fair contract; I care for their safety more. | ||||
