Tell the advertisers!
Most of us have done postcard/writing campaigns before, usually to save our show...
well this time we could be saving the writers' a long strike.
I suggest writing postcards to the following companies, the biggest spenders for television advertising and tell them that the TV viewers believe that the studio executives are causing a problem and not negotiating in good faith. The studio execs are wasting their advertising dollars on reruns and 'reality' shows instead of keeping great scripted television on the air!

General Motors Corporation
P.O. Box 33170
Detroit, MI 48232-5170

Procter & Gamble*
One Procter & Gamble Plaza
Cincinnati, OH 45202

Johnson & Johnson
1 Johnson & Johnson Plaza
New Brunswick, NJ 08933

Ford Motor Company
1 American Rd.
Dearborn, MI 48126-2798

Pfizer, Inc.
182 Tabor Road
Morris Plains, NJ 07950

Pepsi Cola*
700 Anderson Hill Road
Purchase, NY 10577-1401

AOL Time Warner
5 Rockefeller Plaza
New York, NY 10019-6908

Walt Disney Corporation
500 S. Buena Vista St.,
Burbank, CA 91521

Altria Group
120 Park Ave.
New York, NY 10017

AT&T Corp
2 Avenue of the Americans
New York, N.Y. 10013-2412

General Mills
1 General Mills Blvd.
Minneapolis, MN 55426

These are all companies that spend between 100-800 million dollars a year in advertising in the hopes that we will be watching... so let's make it clear what we want to see!

yeah, I would save the beautiful Blue Sun Travel postcards and use something old....
except that in fact I printed out a bunch of postcards w/this Support the WGA icon pictured on them.....

but I'll send MORE postcards using up old ones from around the house
(maybe I'm the only one w/old postcards lying around the house....)
LOL

Holy hell, I thought the same thing!

Does anyone know of other shows that might have postcards besides Firefly? Because I think that would Just take things up a notch.

well you can always print your own: at the office supply store you can get heavy grade paper that has perforations so that they can be broken into four postcards:
Just print four images, any pictures/title/or anything that represents the shows you love, and then break the four apart... they only require a 26¢ stamp

It's a good idea to make note of which advertisers run commercials during your favorite show(s) and then write them specifically, making sure to mention which show(s) you watch and that you WON'T be watching the reality tv replacements.

I agree, and of course in the past (when doing a 'save our show' campaign) that is how we've always focused it...
but this list is specifically the companies that spend the most money every year on TV advertising, so they must believe it works....
And I'm just telling them that if this strike is not resolved and the writers I love and support stay out of work? Then I'm canceling my cable. Screw the AMPTP.

BTW the AMPTP is the assoc of producers who walked out of the bargaining at the last minute and forced the strike to happen... and we can write to THEM at:
AMPTP
15503 Ventura Blvd
Encino, CA 91436

or even call them at: 818 995 3600

I've put Fan Support postcards up on my Web store, if you'd like to use them to send a message to the studios or their advertisers. A list of addresses for major advertisers can be found here. If anyone has a list of studio addresses, please let me know.</p>

In addition to a generic version, I've also added postcards to all the fandoms I've created products for so far.

I love the postcards. I don't suppose there is anyway to do electronic postcards to the executives at those companies, is there? like the online greeting cards...

You could probably send an email direct but paper mail gets more attention.

yeah, when I worked for the Gov't they actually assumed that a phone call was just one person upset, but a letter represented thousands of people who didn't go to the trouble to write.
We are told that the studio heads just throw away letters, but I know for sure that letters are never thrown out when sent to the Government, and I think that advertisers are the same way: they read mail and pass it along. They worry about the reactions/responses of the public.

Great idea - thanks for the info!

I am really getting into this whole thing, I figure if the writers I love have to go out and picket 4 hours each day, then I guess I can spend time going online and writing postcards!

I have written to the cable company that I support the WGA (and that I will cancel cable if they cannot get the AMPTP to negotiate a fair contract).

The AMPTP (the assoc of producers who walked out of negotiations and forced the strike to start) thinks that they have all the power here, but the customers/consumers CAN have a voice!
Tell that to: Nick Counter, President of AMPTP

I agree with you.

I was just getting all geared up to send out a postcard to the cast and crew of my fav show (and I still will, because this is not their fault), and a few extra hours of letter writing will not break my fingers, or my back. I can't imagine picketing for four hours.

Thank you for your further info :D, Mr. Counter is going on my list of letters; and it's not the seasonal card one.
