What is it with CBC Radio and all this iPod product placement? "National Playlist" talks not about mp3 players but about iPods specifically; and they offer iTunes gift certificates. Last week on "Go", when they wanted to sample someone's workout playlist, Brent asked who in the audience had an iPod. I keep hearing it mentioned on other shows as well. Are they being paid by Apple or something?

In other CBC-related news: has anybody else seen "Hatching, Matching & Dispatching"? I'm getting addicted to it. It's the type of unique (and bizarre) programming that I find it hard to believe would turn up on any other major network.

I know what you mean about Hatching, Matching and Dispatching, it's hilarious, but hard to believe it makes it to primetime in the CBC. I hadn't noticed the iPod thing, but now that you mention it, I do remember the National Playlist references, they probably did get the iTunes gift certificates free from Apple or something, unless iPod is becoming the new Kleenex, you know a brand name that comes to signify the product in general and not just the specific brand.

I haven't seen "Hatching, Matching & Dispatching," I don't have a television.

But I find the name amusing - I grew up reading the "hatch, match, and dispatch" pages in the newspaper on a dialy basis, as did my parents and grandparents. (And that was the term we used for it).

I've seen a bit of HM&D, and at first I had a hard time getting over that skinny character's hair, and its relation to the shape of her face.

Of course, that just adds to the humour of it all.

i doubt it's product placement or anything... it's just what most people automatically thing of when mp3 players are brought up. it's branding.

think of kleenex. no matter WHAT it is, people ask for kleenex. that's just amazing branding.

I'm not sure if it's product placement or not, I always thought they just say iPod instead of mp3 player because it's hip and they just want to sound cool.

That thing about the iPod irritates me, because I don't like what a fashion statement they are as opposed to a simple practical device. It makes me cringe to see iPod getting so much free advertisement. There was even that associated press new article simply about "Australian trapped miners given iPods to listen to until they are rescued.." and the whole article was about how they could listen to their favorite bands. That's news, now..!?
