More Food! Jelly Baby Peep! And Pippita Potomus, too!

Another food entry for the ami-along, and I actually knitted this one in August!!  Who knew?!  heh heh  I just realized it myself!

Wee Jimmy the Jelly Baby for D's Birthday

Jimmy was knitted with some lovely 100% Bamboo yarn from http://www.yarncloud.com called Bamboo Magic Waves.  :o)

Also ready for viewing...

Pippita Potomus

My Dear Hubbard was so crazy about Pippa Potomus, and was so sad that she was leaving us, that he couldn’t bear to part with her till I made him a Pippita Potomus of his very own, as one of his birthday peeps (though I swore I’d never make another one)! :o)

So now we have a Potomus too!

I’m amazed she came out so similarly, especially with all the needle sculpting I did! He’s very pleased with her, and that makes me so happy! But she’s the LAST ONE!!! heh heh

Pippita Potomus En Pointe with help:

Pippita with her cousin, Pippa

and with Wee Jimmy

More pics at http://www.flickr.com/knittycat as usual.  :o)

ETA:

Forgot to mention that Wee Jimmy is knitted all in one piece, like all of my doubleknit peeps, including arms.  And Pippita is knitted from toes to top of head in one piece, then arms and ears made separately and sewn on.  (all because I hate to sew seams and bits together!  heh heh)

I'm new to all of this but did you crochet or knit these? The first looks crocheted but IDK about the 2nd.

Because of problems with my hands, nearly everything I make is knitted. On these guys, everything except for Pippita's flower (on her head) is knitted. Her flower is crocheted. :o)

Thanks. I only know how to do basic stuff with crochet but I want to learn knitting eventually. I think it's gonna take me awhile to learn how to make the stuff you've been doing.

I have to admit that Pippa and Pippita were rather difficult for me. But Wee Jimmy was quite simple, if you just know how to knit in the round. (and even that isn't absolutely essential).

But I would suggest doing some simpler methods than mine to start out with. I abhor sewing things together, so I do get into some ... shall we say "creative" methods of avoiding that? heh heh But there are folks doing some FABULOUS and ADORABLE ami (and other toy) patterns with very simple knitting techniques. And whether it's knit or crochet, it's such fun to make these guys! :o) And they're a GREAT way to learn new techniques! They're so much faster to make than other types of projects (well, most of them are! heh heh), so you can really learn a lot in a short time!

I was wondering if you sell them on websites like etsy? Honestly I don't have any tools to knit and really only know how to do one stitch of crochet, so when I say beginner I do mean beginner. I don't even know how to do a round yet.

Oh, gosh, perfectisfake, I'm sorry, no I don't. I only make them as gifts of love for family and friends. Sorry. :o( And most of the ones I make are quite small and simple, I just make a few of these larger (and more trouble!) ones for the dear children in the family, and my DH when he begs! heh heh

But thanks so much for the compliment!! :o)

Hey, just be patient, and you'll be making your very own style of cutie ami's in no time! Wait and see! :o)

Thank you, drawwithcrayons! :o) (as I said to perfectisfake, it's all knit, but the flower)

I made an attempt with the first ballerina hippo, Pippa (she's in an earlier post, with the "hippo" tag), to make ballet slippers, by just shaping the feet a bit, and outlining them, but I tried to make Pippita's really shaped like ballet slippers, doing the colorwork (which I normally don't DO!), and with the feet en pointe, the way I love them to be! heh heh And both Pippa and Pippita love to dance! :o)

Love them all!

How did you find the bamboo yarn? Is it really slippery?

Thanks so much, klawdine! :o)

The bamboo was very nice to work with, not slippery, but smooth and it has a nice sheen. It feels very nice in your hands. I use bamboo needles, and there was no problem with either slipperiness, or sticking! It reminded me of a really good quality cotton that I sometimes use, but a bit nicer feeling than that. And bamboo has some wonderful properties! Plus I was really amazed by the depth of color! :o) Very pretty stuff! I don't usually work with such dark colors, but my DH loves what he calls "Cadbury Purple", so there you are! heh heh What we do for love!

Awww... thank you so much, fairestthings! :o) She is very soft and squishy and huggable.

Her dress is made with Moda Dea Cheerio (sadly discontinued) which is the softest prettiest, fuzzy sparkly yarn!! I adore it! Such a bummer that it's discontinued! And she is made of Bernat Baby Boucle, which makes a really nice, soft, kind of teddybearish texture, with tiny curls! I really like that stuff! :o)

My dd squealed when she saw Pippita...and then of course asked why didn't I make her one, lol. Is she a pattern or did you wing it? She is so gorgeous, I love the color with the texture of the yarn!

Awww, that is the very highest compliment, virtueandvice! Please thank your dd for her sweet compliment! :o)

No she's not a pattern, and I swore I wouldn't make a pattern for Pippa (the first Potomus), but when I HAD to make a second one, for my DH, I did make notes of most of what I did, so at some point in the future, I may make an effort to put it into a usable form for other folks. But if you are a regular reader here, you'll know how notoriously sloooooooowwww I am at writing patterns! And I have at least two patterns ahead of her (Kermie and Hello Kitty). Plus a few tutorials.

If you're on Ravelry, you can check for it there, in a few months (heh heh), I'm theknittycat there too, and if you're not a Ravelry member, I have a vox blog http://www.knittycat.vox.com where you can check in a while. Though I'm even slower to get things on there than I am here and ravelry! :o/

Sorry I can't be more help. :o(

Oh, you're fortunate that he TRIES! :o) Lots of hubbards can't be bothered. Mine is just the opposite to those guys ... I actually started out making peeps for HIM, for Valentine's Day last year! heh heh Then I discovered amigurumi, and we were both hooked! And now there are 36 more on his want list - so far!!! (my poor fingers!)

We're lucky to both love a lot of the same things (cute!, for example)... but then there are the differences... heh heh

Thank you soooo much, knittergoddss!! How sweet! No patterns, I'm afraid. Just out of my fevered brains. ;o) I may eventually make some sort of pattern for Pippa/Pippita, as I did make notes while I was making Pippita (counting stitches on Pippa), but it probably won't be for a good while.

Wee Jimmy is pretty simple, though. He's doubleknit like my wee lambie's (pattern available for the lambies at http://esunbeams.com/knittycat/knittycat_index.htm ), but with no ears, of course, and without the muzzle. Just a roundish head with cheeks. :o)

JELLY BABY! What a little dumplin'! The belly, the facial features. Very clever! Have you eaten a jelly baby? You can find them at British and gourmet grocery stores.

heh heh Thanks! I'm glad you like him, especially since you have made such adorable JB's! His belly should have been a bit bigger, but I was trying to get him done for my DH's birthday week... and Pippita took so LOOOONNNNGGGG!!!

and, Nope,I haven't eaten a jelly baby!! I don't eat children! ;o)

Actually, no I haven't, and I should definitely try them! I have plenty of opportunity to get 'em since we have to go regularly to the British stores to get my Scottish DH's supply of choco! He doesn't like any of our chocolate, not that I blame him. ;o) Except for See's, of course!

Wow! Your hippo is so adorable, and looks so huggable! :D

I'm a complete novice when it comes to crocheting, knitting, and amigurumi, but I love it all, and I can't wait to learn. I'm a new aunt with a dear little niece, and I hope I can make her dollies and toys even half as beautiful as yours! :)

Oh, thanks so much, autumn faerie! Just found your comment while sifting through my inbox. *blush*

I'm sure that your niece will treasure the wonderful things that you are making for her. They will be a special part of her life, always, reminding her of how much she's loved! :o)

ETA: We just found out recently that our dear niece adores her Pippa and that Pippa is her naptime snuggly every day! :o) Now that makes an auntie happy!
