About:

THESE RULES WERE REWRITTEN ON 11/01/05. READ THEM. READ EVERY WORD. IF YOU CANNOT DO THAT, DO NOT JOIN.

First, keep these three things in mind always:

1. We are not doctors or professionals. We can give advice and answer some things, but sometimes you need the advice and/or care of a doctor. Please do not use the mods/members here as a substitute for actual medical help; we are not licensed to treat anything. We can only answer what we know and offer advice.

2. BE NICE. Period. People come here to learn; no matter how much YOU know or how easy their question seems, the poster isn't as advanced as you and that is not a crime or a reason to shun someone. It is the correct, intelligent thing to do to come here and ask questions; rudeness will chase people away from doing the smart thing. If you can't be helpful and kind, shut up. Rude people will be banned. You were once naive, too; you were taught, so either teach, or keep your mouth shut. Also, please remember, sometimes it's better to talk from the heart than the textbook; try to know which is appropriate. If someone is being rude to you, contact me or a moderator, and we will take care of it.

3. Do not post ANY statement as a fact unless you can back it up with proof. Misinformation is dangerous, even deadly. If you cannot show us solid proof to back up something you say, do not post it. If you are asked for references, provide them. Do not post something as though it's medical fact unless you are 100% sure that it is, and be clear in your posts/comments; remember, we're not all drug geniuses, so talk to us all like we're students, not pharmacists.

This community does NOT allow discussion of any recreational drug use or illegal activities, period. Ever. For any reason. In posts, in comments. NEVER. If you are caught doing this, you will be warned; if you continue to do so, or are an asshole, you will be banned. These rules may suck, but they're not hard to understand.

These rules were almost entirely made by LIVEJOURNAL, not me or any of the mods. We are as against them as you all are -- probably more against them, because we're the dicks who have to enforce them. If we had our way these rules would be a lot different. WE DON'T. We have NO CHOICE. We can either follow LJ's rules, delete the community, or risk losing the community AND our journals. Bitching to us does NO GOOD. We cannot do shit. If you want to bitch about the rules, contact Livejournal.

*If you have any questions that can't be asked here, or you're not sure, or you just want to discuss something less publicly, my email address is xxbringmesugarxx@aol.com. I check it almost every day and will always respond.*

The userinfo was already really clear and repeated this point several times, but let me say it again: WE (myself and the mods) DID NOT MAKE THESE RULES. WE CANNOT CHANGE THESE RULES. WE HAVE TO FOLLOW AND UPHOLD THESE RULES. Period. So either deal with them, leave, or contact LJ, because bitching in the community WILL NOT DO ANYONE ANY GOOD. It is a waste of your time, and ours, and all posts bitching about the rules will be met with a reply telling them to READ THE USERINFO, and either shut up or contact LJ, and the post will then be deleted. If the same person makes a new post of the same nature, they will be banned.

The purpose of this community is to discuss the LEGAL use of prescription or over-the-counter medications ONLY. If you even hint at illegality or recreational use, you will be asked to edit your post; if you don't, we will delete it and you can repost at any time WITHIN THE RULES. Repeated offenses, or obvious posts intended to break rules will get you banned.

Some things you CAN post/comment about:

*Asking for or explaining experiences you or others have had with a certain medication, or combination of medications.
*Asking for or explaining what a medication is commonly prescribed for, or what medications are commonly prescribed for certain illnesses/symptoms.
*Asking for or telling others what medications work for you.
*Asking for or discussing side effects.
*Asking for or providing a pill ID if you don't know what a pill is. These posts will usually be deleted once answered.

Basically, if it's legal, you can discuss it here. If so much as one syllable is about illegal/recreational use, you are breaking the rules.

Some things you CANNOT post/comment about:

*Asking for or providing information of any kind relating to purchasing, locating, selling, or manufacturing of any drug.
*ANY discussion of illegal/street drugs, PERIOD. [info]chemicalwhores is the place for that.
*Advertising of any kind, excluding links to sites that discuss nothing but legal drug use, such as RXList.com (but not Erowid.org, for example). Advertisements will be deleted and if you do so repeatedly you will be banned.
*Posting contact info; this is not a place to meet people. If you wish to contact someone from the community, do it OUTSIDE of the community.
*Asking or giving advice on how to "scam" a doctor into prescribing you a medication.
*Off-topic posts. If your post in no way pertains to prescription or OTC medication, it will be deleted, and if you do it again, you're gone. There is no reason to make a post here unless it's on topic.
*Being overtly rude to ANYONE, moderator or member. We are not in the first grade. If you have nothing positive or helpful to offer, don't comment. We aren't here to babysit or break up fights, so if you're an asshole more than once you will probably be banned. ONLY comment if you have something worthwhile to say. Please remember that not everyone possesses an equal amount of knowledge or experience, about drugs or anything else. What you may consider a stupid/easy question may be something that someone genuinely doesn't know. If you see a post like that, either answer the question politely or shut up; we were all stupid before we learned, and we are here to learn and to teach, NOT to shun people for not knowing things. People who ask questions should be commended, not mocked. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated AT ALL.
*If you post something as a factual statement (e.g, an LD50 of a medication), be prepared to back it up if someone questions you. If you can't back something up with reliable factual evidence don't post it here; misinformation is dangerous.

There are undoubtedly more things that are and are not allowed, but the basic rule of thumb that you should remember is if anything you say alludes to breaking the law in any way, it's against the rules. That is a shitty rule, but it is easy to remember.

The penalties for breaking various rules will vary depending on various factors. These include, but aren't limited to:

*Which rule is broken
*How severely a rule is broken
*The moderators' discretion; some will be nicer than others but the mods' rulings will be upheld unless they are seriously out of line (if you feel you have been treated unfairly by a mod, contact me with evidence)
*How many times a rule is broken by the same member, or how many times a member breaks rules in general
*If you are an obvious troll, or obviously trying to break rules/not caring about rules -- we can tell when someone slips up and when someone is just ignoring the rules

There is no set-in-stone guidelines as far as what will result in which consequences. It will be taken on a case-by-case basis and it will depend on the moderator who catches you and your attitude towards them as well as other factors. If you break a rule, consequences can range anywhere from a polite request to alter your post up to an immediate and permanent banning.

To be EVEN MORE clear and repetitive, here is a list of questions to ask yourself before posting or commenting:

Does it pertain in any way to anything illegal?
Does it contain any advertisements/links that aren't allowed (NO online pharmacies!)? (If you aren't sure, ask.)
Does it pertain to using a medication that is not prescribed to you, or using a medication in a way other than prescribed?
Is it rude, insulting, etc.?
Does it present information as fact that you cannot back up?
Does it pertain to any illicit drugs?
Is it on-topic?
Does it contain contact information?

We will almost always give you the chance to edit a post or make a new one, unless there is reason not to. If you are unsure about whether something is acceptable to post, contact me or a moderator.

Bottom line, we can tell the difference between an unintentional fuckup and someone who didn't even bother with the rules or doesn't care about them, and that WILL reflect in the consequences given out.

Remember these rules apply to posts AND comments, and we DO check.

Please feel free to contact me (xxbringmesugarxx@aol.com) at any time for any reason, including:

*If you wish to be a moderator. You must be able to devote a decent chunk of time per week to the community, be able to understand/explain/follow/enforce ALL rules, and you must somehow do this without chewing someone's head off.
*You have questions about the rules, or think something should be changed or added.
*You have a problem with any member or mod; keep it OUTSIDE of the community.
*There is any topic you cannot, are not sure you can, or don't want to post about here. I will get back to you usually within 2 days. There is a reason all of our info is available here.
