Chin on PBS
I'm not sure if anyone still reads this community, but I read via Kristin Nicholas' blog that there is going to be a new show on PBS called "Knit and Crochet Today," co-hosted by Lily Chin! It is sponsored by Coats and Clark and will begin airing in the fall. I don't know 'bout you, but to me, Lily Chin on TV every week is a sign of the armageddon. |

Craft Corner Deathmatch
Someone recently informed me that Lily Chin is a judge on Craft Corner Deathmatch. Her bio reads: Lily Chin Lily Chin is officially the world's fastest crocheter--and she's also a master knitter. She designs for magazines, yarn companies and major ready-to-wear companies (such as Diane von Furstenberg and Isaac Mizrahi), and she has written three books: Knit and Crochet with Beads (Interweave Press), The Urban Knitter (Berkley Publishing Group) and Mosaic Magic: Afghans Made Easy (Oxmoor House). I feel a little ill upon this discovery. I think I'm gonna go lie down now. |

Commander Lily Chin of the 107th Acrylic-Blend Flying Saucer Division, pictured here with batallion members at the HYUK Headquarter. A crocheted scarf so ugly, even Lily Chin couldn't love. From her CGOA performance. |

HYUK!
Hi, my name is Helen and I'm probably known for making up posting in this journal. I'm here with the Chin quote of the week. from http://www.knittinguniverse.com/xrx/athena/ProsDetail.php?ID=1398The Chin shows us how to hide our stash(be ashamed, HYUKS! Be very ashamed!) "Do you wear ALL your shoes at the same time? No, stick a skein of yarn in each unworn shoe (boots are great for this very reason). " and then What frequently-asked knitting question do you hate to answer? Any that requires more than 25 words of explanation. Lily makes me proud to be australian. |

Okay, we need some more posting around here because the horror that is the Chin is just not being exploited to its full potential. Sooooo, find a picture of the ugliest/funniest Chin design you can. Post a link here. Bonus points if the Chin herself is in it. Really, I am just hoping someone knows where a picture of this bizzare pink eyelash dress thing I keep hearing about it. Or is that just an urban Chin legend? |

I was looking through FCEK at the drugstore the other day and noticed that there is yet another masterpiece from out favorite knitting personality. An off-white duster with big ugly cross-stitch looking flowers around the edges. Check it out http://www.fceasyknitting.com/magazine/preview.htmlIt's the last one on the 4th row. I'd say this one is more fashion-backwards (hello 1970's) than fashion-forwards, wouldn't you? Doesn't look very well shaped, either. |

I'm sure you've all read her bio on knitting universe by now (an annoying entity even without LC), but just in case I thought I would post this particular piece of evidence of her gargantuan ego: Total designing, from stitch to fabric to silhouette to details and construction methods. I'm probably most known for innovative techniques and applications thereof (like reversible cables), though I'm also known for advanced shaping and engineering. I'm very proud of my teaching abilities as well as my writing. Oh, and my outrageous outfits that I wear personally, like at Stitches banquet.; Machine Knitting , Crochet,; Teaching all the above,; Writing about all the above,; Swimwear - been in Sports Illustrated 3 years now Has she actually MODELLED in SI? Gag me--exactly the sort of thing the world doesn't need. In case anyone else is looking for a bit of a chortle, check out the whole thing at: http://www.knittinguniverse.com/athena/prosA.taf?_function=detail&PROS_uid1=1398&_UserReference=59E061A49D8A25313F7B83E4 |

Hello, RERUNS?
From http://www.lionbrand.com/index.htmlOn Monday night, April 30th, on the David Letterman Show, Lily Chin, used LION BRAND'S Wool-Ease Thick & Quick yarn to crochet a sweater for Dave. By the end of the hour, she helped him on with his new sweater. Want the pattern? Click here! Lily was the winner of the award for "World's Fastest Crocheter" at the New York's Knit-Out & Crochet 2002. Late breaking news: This show proved so popular that it was re-run on May 26! Yes, it was rerun because it was so popular. It couldn't possibly have been because that's what these shows DO at the end of the season! Grrrr. I hope people aren't as stupid as they seem. |

So does she actually have her own website, or is she not as computer-savvy as she is yarn-savvy? I'm surprised she doesn't have a shrine to herself out there somewhere... |

So, how would one pronounce Lily's most irritating acronym ever, HYUK? Should the H be silent, making it "yuck" (which is an accurate description of how the Urban Knitter makes me feel), or do you work in that H, going for a "heh-yuck" sound, which is more like somebody choking? Or perhaps it's one of those things that is pronounced nothing like it looks and the best thing to say is "really misguided people who admire Lily Chin" Alternative words for the HYUK acronym, anyone? Horribly Yuppie-esqe Unbearable Knitter? |
