Jump Square kicks off November 2nd!
Well this isn't about Weekly Jump, but I figured a lot of people in the community'll be interested nonetheless.
Jump Square (or Jump SQ) is the name of the new magazine which'll replace Monthly Jump starting November 2nd. A new issue will follow on the 4th of every month.

What will you be reading in it? Well:
- A Masanori Morita-Takeshi Obata collaboration.
- A Fujiko Fujio A series, by Kaidô Hiroyuki and Kazu Hajime.
- Claymore, Tegami Bachi, Gag Manga Biyori, Kurohimé, Rosario to Vampire & Embalming (by Nobuhiro Watsuki)
- A novel by Katayama Kentarô & Yamamoto Yamato entitled Denbateki na Kanojo.

Future site of this magazine: http://jumpsq.shueisha.co.jp/

written by Masanori Morita and drawn by Takeshi Obata

Holy shit. I had to do a double-take on that one, and when it sunk in, I yelled "What?!" at my screen.

There is so much potential awesomeness in this, I'll try not to look forward to it too much. I might flail.

And I need to finish reading your posts before commenting, because

A Fujiko Fujio series (mangaka of Doraemon), by Kaidô Hiroyuki and Kazu Hajime.

that had be tell "WHAT?!" at the screen, too. Fujiko Fujio and Kazu Hajime? What the hell? Are they catering this magazine to me personally, or something?

Awesome.

Embalming! :O

Seriously!? I mean, I've been waiting so hard for exactly this announcement that a) I did not see it at first and b) I don't believe it.

Now that's something I thought I'd never hear: a Morita (Rokudenashi BLUES, Rookies) & Obata (Hikaru no Go, Death Note) combo manga! That is just so weird and wild it just might work! And also interesting that Embalming is becoming a monthly series.

As for the "other Jump mangaka" comment...well Takeshi Okano is already getting monthly work with Digimon Next, so I guess he doesn't count :p

Takeshi obata and watsuki are leaving weekly jump!? That makes me sad! Now their next series can't be in future Jump games. :'(

Hey, even if they move to monthly, that doesn't mean they still can't create great and captivating series. Maybe being freed up to a monthly schedule could reignite the artistic fire in both Watsuki and Obata and create something captivating...even if they won't ever be in the games. (then again, between those two and even Morita, we got Kenshin, Buso Renkin, Death Note and Rokudenashi in the games...so they're represented plenty)

They need a rokudenashi battle koma. It's a manga about fighting afterall!

When I saw Maeda Taison in the game, I thought he was battle...but he was just support. If there's a sequel, he's one of the few I would instantly offer an upgrade to.

Same with some other series that got raped of battle characters like Nube, Cobra, Taizo (If he returns), Taa-chan, and Luckyman. Maybe Sena, Ryoma and some other sports characters.

I've continuously been playing in my mind a setup for the next game...some of them made playable characters, others didn't. Thing is I don't think its appropriate to put them up here and now in this topic.

I wonder what other mangas they could put in the game. I really want to know. The game would probably be out by christmas if they started work on it.

Nah, it takes a lot more to do a game like that.

As for what series...I say quality over quantity myself. If they had every single significant manga ever yet the game cart pretty much reduce you to having four battle characters (which pretty much would be Goku, Luffy, Naruto...and a toss up between Kenshiro, Ryotsu, Kinnikuman and Ichigo), it probably wouldn't be worth it.

As for what's left...besides the obvious (To-LOVE-Ru and Mx0 joining now), the only really major series not in the game that could be are City Hunter and Cat's Eye. Maybe also a couple others like Nagaraboshi Gin, Taruruto, Sexy Commando or Dai no Daiboken...heck, I could even see that pervert from Harenchin Gakuen as a "Mr. Game & Watch-style" character. (one of the first Jump manga ever...and the first major work by Go Nagai, who went on to become an adult manga god). But I say fortify the series already in, reduce the reliance on others (no more "17 Bleach characters!") and get City Hunter and the next game will be all set.

Hahahahaha. Dogs fighting. I think Ramenman should have a battle koma since he even had his own series. I just really hope they don't get rid of Taizo. If Taizo stays, maybe they'd put in Mieru Hito.

Taizo is over and didn't have enough to really go with. If it makes the next game, it will be as support if not at all.

Ramenman...I think his manga was actually not WSJ but I think he could be made playable...if not remain support if he's back.

As for the "fighting dogs"...yeah, if Ginga: Nagaraboshi Gin got in, that's what it would be. (though on a tangent thought: they could have Wild Half as a support series)

I'm glad that Claymore will continue, and a new series by Fujiko Fujio practically made me wet myself.

This magazine may turn out to be more awesome than anyone expected.

As for Embalming, I hope it'll be at least as fun as Busou Renkin; and Obata and Morita teaming up sounds almost too awesome for words.

Embalming (by Nobuhiro Watsuki)

Only thing that really got my attention. I've liked the two chapters I've seen of this series so far, and I personally liked Busou Renkin, so I'm really looking forward to more Embalming.

The one who died was Fujiko F. Fujio (the Doraemon guy), the one listed for Jump SQ is Fujiko Fujio A, who is very alive at the moment.

Once upon a time they worked under the pen name Fujiko Fujio, and made Q-Taro (which is a great manga by the way). Later they began making their own manga, Fujiko F. Fujio (real name Hiroshi Fujimoto) made series like Doraemon and Kiteretsu Daihyakka, while Fujiko Fujio A. (real name Motoo Abiko) made stuff like Hattori the Ninja and Shonen Jidai. Fujiko A.'s manga are generally darker, or that's what most people say anyway.
