Self-indulgent Meta Crossover Malarkey
“What’s this show called again?”

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Surely you’ve seen it before?”

Lex snorted derisively. “Not likely.”

“It’s really nice,” Lana insisted, nodding her shiny brown head emphatically. “There’s a lot of people, working towards good, and then there’s Spike – he’s dreamy....”

Lex looked at his partner dubiously. She was right that having videos playing in the corners of the coffee-house led to patrons staying longer, and ordering more food and beverages. Profits were up; her plan was a good one. But Buffy the Vampire Slayer? He watched for another moment.

Then he caught his breath.

“Who’s that?”

Of course, Lex and Buffy are my OTP. Doesn't really work for this one because it's not a real crossover, but I still want him to react like that.

In my mind Lana would be attracted to Angel. I'm not sure why, except that she seems to be a sucker for the whole redemption thing.

Plus I hate what happened to Spike.

LOL! Sorry. But I am. I don't think she'd be into the redemption thing so much as the tall, dark and loominess of him. I kind of saw her as being a Buffy+Angel 4eva! afficionado, too, but a fair-weather one. Once they spun him off and switched isn't-he-cute guys, I can readily see her going along. She probably liked Riley in s4, IMO, and then after he left she would have gradually switched over to Spike, like a good little member of the Target Demographic.

I hate practically everything that happened in s7 Buffy, not because it messed with my OTP of any kind (which is Lex+Buffy, and all in my head) but because practically nothing that happened followed logically from stuff that had happened before, and not in the fun way, either.

Lex/Xander? It's... an idea. There's the whole same-name-game aspect, for starters, and the... I hope that wasn't a challenge. I'm terrible about challenges. I have a nasty habit of taking people up on them.

LOL! Xander might have a bad reaction to the Luthor name. It would depend on what universe you put it in -- he might be all "Lex Luthor? Evil genius, foe of Superman?" or he might just see him as the spoiled scion of disreputable businessman Lionel Luthor. They've mentioned Superman on BtVS before. There's a vast money chasm between them, but they're both kind of geeks....

I think it would have to be a 'same universe' deal-- if Xander was, say, a couple of years older than Clark, and we assume that the comics, previous TV series, and movies haven't existed (as various pieces of vampire canon haven't existed in the Buffyverse), then the stage would be set for Lex to meet Xander, and we can take the "spoiled scion of disreputable businessman Lionel Luthor" route quite easily.

There'd have to be some sort of plot to bring them together; an AU, perhaps, in which Lionel sends Lex to a plant in Sunnydale rather than Smallville. Since he only seems to have stuck a pin in a list to decide, it's not that big a change... then Lex starts getting involved-- visits the Bronze, meets Buffy and Willow and Xander there, and we have a Chloe/Pete/Lana/Clark mirror, with perhaps Cordelia as Lana, depending when in the Buffy canon we set it.

Something wierd happens-- a rewrite of a Buffy canon demon-of-the-week or an invented one, and Lex is clued in to what's going on in the town. A little research-- if Giles can find it, Lex can-- and we're away.

Oh dear. I just worked out how to make this possible, didn't I? I think I may be going crazy.

And here was me, thinking that age differences were part of the appeal of the fandom. Different strokes for different folks, eh?

Still, that could work... how would that place them? Xander was... 21? at the end of season 7; and Lex is 21 at the start of Smallville's canon... if we have Lex sent to Sunnydale to find that the FE is there, we'll... hate ourselves for trying to write s7 fic, yes we will, precious... so let's send Lex to Sunnydale somewhen else, say early season 3, after Xander and Cordelia are over but before Anya has arrived on the scene, leaving Xander free to date bald millionaires... but that's still that age difference thing.

An AU season 7, maybe? Anya leaves Xander, for good; Lex arrives at the start of the season, same time as the FE, age difference reduced or gone, Xander free to date, weird things happening often even for Sunnydale, high school in need of money (Robin Wood's the sort of guy who would fetch in a convinent local business man to help out)...

I must be going crazy.

Actually, I think that s6 "Older & Far Away" was Buffy's 21st birthday. Buffy and Xander were in the same grade as each other, and her 18th birthday (the one where Giles drugged her as per the Coucil's SOP) was the same year she graduated high school (s3), which means she didn't fall behind a year when she was (allegedly!) put away in a mental institution, whenever that (allegedly!) was. Her birthday was in January, which would make her one of the oldest in her grade (until this year, you had to be turning five by December 10 in order to go to kindergarten in California -- without anybody being held back or skipping a grade, the youngest kid in any grade would be born Dec. 10 and the oldest kid would be born Dec. 11.) I think if Xander had ever flunked a grade, we probably would have heard about it from Willow, so Xander should have turned 21 some time after Dec. 10 in season 6 and before Dec. 10 in season 7.

Season 6 would have been a great one for Lex Luthor -- you've got the invisibility ray and all that stuff, plus it adds a whole new level of whatever to Xander leaving Anya at the altar.

Oh, well remembered, my dear.

Lex in season six... The Nerd Herd-- Warren, Andrew, and Jonathon-- get funding from a local, nerdish, evil millionaire. Freeze ray, invisiblity ray, so many things that could be subtly and interestingly different...

I am liking this. I think I have a plot bunny to take away on holiday with me (as if I didn't have enough already). At least it won't take up space in the packing!

Heh...I totally thought this was Xander too...I know I read a fic where Buffy and Lex had a date and there was some humor when she introduced them to each other but I've never seen em slashed...waits patiently...

LOL! If it was "Hey, Xander. Hey, Lex." Buffy put her bag away in the hall closet. "Alexander, meet Alexander. Alexander, this is Alexander. Hee." then that was Second Date which is one of mine. Hence the Self-Indulgent Meta Crossover Malarkey of the snippet title. :-)
