A small update
I've been busy recently so I thought I'd post a small update

Here is my 365 day post for reference

In my 365 day post I mentioned my search for a wedding band. I was looking for a white gold wishbone shaped ring to go with my engagement ring - well I found it! My BM works for a Scottish jewellery designer called Sheila Fleet who was visiting her store in Edinburgh in October. I went along to meet her and to see if she could make me a ring to go with my engagement ring. She was really lovely and helpful and gave me lots of options. In the end I decided to go with one of her normal designs, but in white gold with rhodium plating. I highly recommend the company if you want something unusual or unique. On to the pics...

On it's own:

With my engagement ring they look made for each other!

With FH's Ring:

We also have purchased wedding fragrances. I can't remember who posted the idea of having a fragrance to wear on your wedding day but as smell can bring back memories I think it is a fantastic idea. FH has chosen Guerlain "Homme" and I have chosen Channel "Coco Mademoiselle". We are not going to wear them till the wedding day and hopefully it will work!

Next are our cake toppers. We were thinking of going for a Dr Who theme (we're big sci fi geeks) and I was trying to get a figurine of Dr Who in a tux for FH and Donna in her runaway bride outfit for me but I couldn't find anything anywhere. Then I tried to find Leia and Han from Star Wars with no luck. We were in an Indian crafts shop a few weeks ago and found these handmade elephant ornaments and thought they were really cute! We'll be having a plain white cake with a big purple ribbon on the second tier so I think these two will go really well on top and are really appropriate for a wedding at the zoo. Elephants are considered lucky here - but only as gifts, so my mother paid for them and gave to us them as gifts. We'll use them as ornaments after the wedding.

Ignore the kitchen mess plz!

Another angle

Our save the dates went out on Saturday so I'm checking the wedding website for hits frequently.

Finally we chose our wedding car - a 1958 restored Chevy!

Only 10 months to go...

wow nice car! I think there's a superstition abut elephants like that - the ones with their trunks raised...you're supposed to face them towards a door for good luck. Weird but there ya go - that's what it made me think of.

I'll make sure the venue knows how to arrange the cake then - thanks!

I like the elephant thing, that's pretty cool. And they're adorable too.

I'm having a wedding fragrance as well! Estee Lauder Beyond Paradise. I bought it in Italy on a vacation. It was my first 'grown up' prefume purchase, so I thought it would be nice to use on my wedding day too.

*Love* the car. And the ring. Everything it lovely!

I've not smelt that perfum but I hope it works for you.

I'm just so glad I got a ring!

Our wedding car is our '67 Chevelle. It's all white and chrome.
It's lovely to see someone with good taste in vehicles. =)

Aww, thanks! I just love it and my dad is going to be so surprised - he loves big american cars.

I did originally want a VW camper van but my mum wouldn't let me...

AHHH! I love that car and I see you are in Scotland too. Would you mind telling me where you are hiring it from? (my date is in August so I won't try to poach it from your day, promise!)

Cool! Nice to know there are more Scottish brides out there!

I'm hiring it from www.belaircarhire.co.uk

Brian (the owner) is really nice - I met him at the Edinburgh Corn exchange wedding fair. The car is awesome and it's all really nice inside too. He'll dress up in 50's suit, or GI outfit or even Elvis! =0)

Where are you getting married?

Are elephants a Scottish tradition? My fiance is Scottish but I'm not and I'm trying to incorporate some Scottish traditions into our wedding, but he's almost never been to a wedding so he's no help. We'll have all his friends and family over and I want to make it a little familiar to them.

Not particularly as far as I am aware. Giving Elephants is considered lucky and to give an elephant as a house warming gift is good luck - especially white ones. It might just be my family.

If you're looking for Scottish wedding traditions then I'm sure I can come up with some ideas...

It's treadition for the bride to be given away by the father of the bride (if possible) as usual really, any one wearing a kilt should learn how to tie his ghillie shoes appropriately. And if they are true scotsmen they shouldn't be waering anything under the kilt - no underwear!

Perhaps you could find a band to do some scottish country dancing music for the evening reception or a bagpiper to pipe you into the ceremony (my uncle is doing it for me).

I'm sure I'll think of others but my mind is blank at the moment!

The scramble is something I've seen at a few weddings here. Basically after the actual ceremony the bride and groom throw coins on the ground for all the children and then the kids 'scramble' to grab them all! It's supposed to be a gesture to ensure good fortune in the marriage as it's believed that the token will be returned to the bride and groom throughout their marriage (not literally, I hope!).

Another after-ceremony tradition I've seen (although not really in more recent weddings) is for a toddler or young child to hand a horseshoe to the bride as she walks out of the ceremony venue with her husband. It's not usually a real horseshoe anymore, usually just a decorated fake one you can get from card shops and the like although I don't know if they are readily available so you could always go with a real one!

Ah yeah the scramble - but here on the east coast it's the male members of the bride's family who throw the coins. I remember scrambling at wedding when I was wee!

Perhaps a quaich? It's a ceremonial cup which is filled with single malt whisky and everyone in the family takes a sip from the cup - it was used by scottish clans for hundreds of years to symbolise friendship and family. Something like this perhaps:

You wouldn't have wanted the Doctor in a suit anyway...it always gets him in trouble!
