500 Day Update!
That's right, kiddies, the countdown has begun - my single life will only last for another 500 days! Eep!
Bride:
dana_pants
Groom:
mitdasein
Our short and sweet story: Portland, Oregon couple, getting married on the coast in the late summer...
Our detailed story: http://danasean.blogspot.com - Our Wedding Website (in progress), to be officially launched to the guest list this fall/winter.
Us, Cannon Beach, circa 2006:

Ceremony
Ceremony: Friday, August 21, 2009, at or around sunset
Location: either on the beach in Seaside, OR, or on the grounds of McMenamin's Sand Trap in Gearhart, OR
Colors: Dark purple and a light green, with black and silver as accents
Flowers: Leaning toward a carnation pomander for myself, might keep to carnations for the reception as well
The Sand Trap:

We've RSVP'd to go to an Open House there the afternoon of April 25th, and if we like it we're increasing our wedding budget from the current $7500 to $10000, to accommodate their $5000 food/drink minimum and 18% gratuity. It's been a hard decision, but the convenience of having servers, a bartender, not having to drag $1000 worth of booze to the coast ourselves (we were planning on using McMenamins wine and beer anyways, this way we can just get it in our catering and it's taken care of), not to mention dishes/linens/everything we might have had to rent... well, unless this place royally sucks in person we're going for it. Their catering menu is even pretty good for someone like my FH, who is a gluten-free vegetarian. Really, it's either this or we're doing an hors d'ouevres reception in a tiny little community hall that may not have enough room for our guest list, haha.
Wedding Party: NONE. Not even kiddies. We're attention hogs. ;)
THE DRESS: I'm 95% certain it's gonna be this little gem from Stephanie Madesh on etsy:

I'm either going with ivory or black... it's all dependent on how the fabric swatches look against my skin tone. Personally, I'm leaning heavily toward black. Not only is it a color I'm FAR more comfortable in than white (I think white looks hideous on my plus-size body; some large girls can rock it, but for me it makes me look marshmallow, which is not acceptable for my wedding day), but I'm far more likely to be able to wear it after the wedding, which is something I'd like to be able to do. Plus, Paris' bridal shows are full of black wedding dresses right now, so I know I'm not the only one who sees the elegance of it. Anyways - I start working with her in person this fall, probably about October/November.
Head covering: I want to get something small but significant; if I have a veil at all, it will be a birdcage, likely worn at an angle. Then again, I'm highly addicted to peacock feather fascinators (such as the one pictured below), so who knows.

Other bridal wear: As I posted a bit ago, I just bought the fiercest patent pumps EVAR in a lovely shade of purple, and have some great bridal jewelry going on. As a reminder:

Reception
Time and Location: Pretty much immediately following ceremony - probably about 7:30 at the latest; location see above. If Sand Trap doesn't work out, the other place we're looking at is the Cannon Beach Community Hall
Theme: PURPLE RAIN. Oh yes. Mostly 80s music. Decadence, exquisite overkill, a little bit new wave, a little bit CZ and pearls. Because I think Prince would be okay with our reservations with the diamond industry.
Favors: None. Or, if we do anything, it will be bookmarks. Instead, we're doing at least a $200 donation to either the Human Rights Campaign or Freedom to Marry in support of equal marriage rights for LGBTQ couples. This is, by far, one of the most serious elements of our wedding; everything else is pretty silly and fun. However, we do want to show our support for the many gay and lesbian guests we'll have in attendance who are denied the rights we will enjoy as man and wife.
Cake: We're mostly doing mini-cupcakes from Cupcake Jones. We had already fallen in love with their cupcakes (we being me, as he can't have cupcakes that aren't GF), but then we met the owner of Cupcake Jones at a Bridal Expo, and she is absolutely one of the most awesome people. I'm thrilled to be able to support her business! Anyways. For the FH, we are either getting a Mocha Fudge Cake from Rimsky-Korsakoffee House in SE Portland, or maybe trying to find something more traditional. However, we're so anti-traditional, I don't see us searching very hard to replace this - it's amazing, it's gluten-free, and it'll do for the cake cutting, so that's all that matters.
First dance: mostly likely The Lovecats by the Cure, though we have been tempted by this number. ;)
Dance to invite everyone to the floor: Come Dancing by the Kinks
Cake Cutting: Lips Like Sugar by Echo & The Bunnymen
Bouquet Toss: Hong Kong Garden by Siouxsie & The Banshees
Garter Toss: Keep Your Hands To Yourself by the Georgia Satellites
Anniversary Dance: Rock This Town by the Stray Cats
the Lighting of the Weed: Pass the Dutchie by Musical Youth. Just Kidding.
Save the Dates were sent out with our Christmas cards...

Other incidentals: we've ordered a guest book:

...and cake toppers:

Our friend Mama Joey will be our officiant, and our friend Xander will be the Emcee/DJ. Our only booking thus far is our wedding planner, Jamie Crosier. We're hoping to book a reception venue by mid-May at the latest, so we can start interviewing photographers, which is our number one splurge item.
Yay! I feel so accomplished, and we still have so much time! =)
