insurance?
Hi all

Do any of you freelance web designers have liability insurance? I want to place bids on the state website jobs but most require insurance. How much do you pay? what are good agents?

thanks!

I don't know what kind of insurance you are talking about, but your context made it assume not health or dental. I guess I don't have the insurance you are talking about.

Just use paypal or checks, makes it easier.

Nope. They don't pay me until I'm done, and I am NEVER in posession of CC#s or information, neither are my clients' web sites. Yes, we do e-commerce. everything goes through a gateway.

I was asked to bid on a couple of state jobs: WAY too much hassle AFAIC. Two days worth of paperwork and an awful lot of personal information, and that didn't even guarantee me the damn job. Not worth my time, and who knows how long they'd have taken to pay me.

One of my clients asked about it and I said "I'm self-employed and web design isn't exactly a high-risk occupation." I suppose it's in case you get sued or something, as most companies are required to be 'bonded', but not designers, that I know of. I think its bureaucracy carried over from other private contract companies.

I have never heard of a case where someone successfully sued their developer which, considering the flaws in Windows, the multi-billion dollar government systems that get scrapped etc should put you pretty much in the clear.
