lightning and more
I just found this community, I love weather pictures. Here's a lightning shot I took last night:

There are lots more pictures in my weather and to a lesser extent sunsets galleries.

The photos here are great!

Beautiful!!

How do you take lighting pics? Are you using an SLR, digital, point and shoot? I have an SLR, what pointers do you have?

Beautiful!

I'm using a digital, a Canon S110 (some of the older lightning pictures were taken with different digitals, but the principles are the same). To take lightning pictures, I turn the flash off, set the autofocus to infinite, and turn on auto-repeat mode. This gives a one second exposure every one or two seconds by holding down the shutter button. Then I just point where the action is and take lots of pictures. Most of them are dark, so I just throw them away (this is the part where having a digital is nice). Depending on the lightning activity, perhaps just 1 in 20 or even less is illuminated.

My digital doesn't seem to take exposures more than one second, but some other digitals allow more control over aperture and exposure.

Glad you enjoyed the photos!
