I knitted a Weasley sweater for my baby, and I just had to post a picture here.

I used this pattern for seamless in-the-round raglan sweaters and scaled it down to baby size. One thing I learned is that the percentages on that pattern for the sleeve width don't work for baby arms -- they need to be a lot wider! I'd hoped the sweater would fit him through the winter, but the arms are already tight.

I used a soft acrylic yarn (something cheap from Michael's in case it didn't work out), but I was really pleased with the result. The letter was duplicate stitched on, and the pattern for that was adapted from the letter pattern in Magical Knits.

Also, you can't see it here, but I divided the neck about two inches down from where the collar ended and created a tab with two buttonholes for a better fit around the neck.

I was really proud of the result! :-)

i found this fabric a couple years ago, and decided to buy some. it sat neatly in a shopping bag until a month ago, when i sewed it up into this neat quilt/wall hanging. there's padding in between this two layers, making it quite soft, and the back (shown on the right) has a soft glitter glaze over it, making it really pretty. i also added glitter glaze over harry's yellow wand trail. it looks great at night, glowing in the light of a small lamp!

also, if anyone would be interested in purchasing it, i am selling it. sadly, i am going off to college and do not have room to display it anymore, and i'd rather somebody enjoy it than me storing it away.

I'm sweltering in the heat of summer scrambling madly to get ready for Terminus, and I realized I had stuff to post. :)

So, I'm procrastinating from my big pile of fic to read to do 2 things.

The first is to show off a hat, scarf, glove set I knit for a friend in exchange for art.

Elann Highland Wool in Mid Indigo Heather (they were out of Admiral Blue when I ordered, and this was the first choice out of what was left), and Golden Bark. Hat was worked up on 7s, gloves were worked up on 5s, and the scarf was worked up on 8s. I've since added tassels to the scarf, but I don't have a picture of it. The scarf, incidentally, is huge. It's 9in wide and 7ft long without fringe. Granted, I worked it up at a loose gauge and it's very soft and squishable for it, but it's still enormous. XD It's a little hard to tell, but it's wrapped around the "neck" of the mannequin head twice.

As usual, the tassels on the hat are removable. The hat is a shape I've used many times before, but the usual space for the chart wasn't big enough for the detail I wanted on an eagle, so I charted the image up into the decreases and changed the top a little.

Gloves are just gloves. I've nothing interesting to say about gloves, as I find them rather tedious to do. I much prefer mittens! Mostly because there are fewer ends to weave in....

The second is to mention that I'll be leading the two knitting workshops at Terminus because jkg_vader can't make it. :( My sessions are Friday at 3:30 and Saturday at 2 and I learned today that the room has a 24 person capacity. So on the one hand I invite everyone to stop on by with their knitting/crocheting/etc if you like. BUT, I might have to kick out folks who don't need knitting help, if the room fills beyond capacity. I don't expect it to, but I figured I might as well include that caveat. Regardless, I hope folks who are going to be at Terminus will stop by and say "hello", at the least. :) You can watch me try and knit with my giant knitting needles! OK, they're smaller in diameter than a US#50, but not by much! :D

Hi! I've been watching this community for some time now and only recently joined. It's lovely to have a place where fellow knitters and HP fans can chat and share their creations. You've inspired me to start my own little project for my growing "Weasley" family! : )

I have two sons, four and five, and a set of two-year old twins -- all boys so far. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a girl eventually! I recently found out that I'm pregnant again, so we'll see! <3

At any rate, I'd love to make Weasley sweaters for our little clan. My little troublemaker twins are definitely a Fred and George duo, and my five-year old is like Charlie, judging from the amount of time he likes to spend outside. He wears me out! My four-year old is quite reserved, so I like to think of him as my precious Percy.

I'd like to make sweaters for the four of them with their initials on them in similar to the Weasley sweaters, and I have my eyes on some nice flecked yarn..but the problem is, I can't seem to remember any of the colors! My books are on loan to my neighbor's daughter, so I can't check for myself. Obviously, Ron's sweater was maroon, and I think the twins' were blue? Let me know if you know of any of the others!

All I how worked is two simple scarves (garter stitch) simple, no pattern needed :). I don't want to get confused and discouraged so any help would be nice. Thank you for your time.

Ron's Red Sweater

Hi everyone, I'm new both to this group and to knitting in general. I actually got inspired to take up knitting because of the Harry Potter series, and all the fabulous knittery that it contains.

I was wondering if anyone knows where to get a pattern for Ron's red sweater in Prizoner of Azkaban (photo here). I'd love to make it, and I'm sure it's not too tough, but I don't want to forge ahead without some sort of pattern, seeing as I'm a noob.

If there is a free pattern available somewhere, obviously that's best, but I don't mind buying a book. I just haven't been able yet to find any books with this pattern. Lots of Weasley letter sweaters, but not the red one.

Thanks in advance!

single sock syndrome is not a problem

when it's a Slytherin Christmas stocking. It's even less of a problem when it's this small and worked up in worsted weight yarn.

There are loads of mini-sock and mini-stocking patterns around, although most use thinner yarn. I decided to make one up as I went along since I wanted to use scraps of worsted weight yarn I've got lying around. This is really just a regular ol' sock, worked up to smaller size and slightly funky proportions. But then, that's pretty much what all mini-socks are. For some reason, though, people seem to like to work a gusseted heel flap instead of a short row heel, and I like the short row heel and toe.

The brown thing is the base of the foam head I usually use to model hats. And an action shot for better scale. This one is winging its way to a friend. And I didn't block it! *feels naughty and daring*

Quick directions: I used worsted weight yarn on US#6/4mm double pointed needles
- tubular cast-on 18st leaving a 6-8" tail. (Or use whatever cast-on you like, preferably for ribbing, and skip the tubular stitch)
- join in round and work tubular stitch (for circular knitting) for 2 rows.
- work 2r ribbing
- change to stockinette and work until piece is 2" long.
- Work a short row heel on 9 stitches, using the short row wrap or what have you. Work the short rows for 4r or until there are 5 unwrapped stitches remaining.
- once the heel is done, work a scant 1" of instep (full 1" if not making a CC toe).
- if working a CC toe, work 1r in CC and then begin short row toe as for heel.
- graft the toe to the instep (requires about a foot of yarn).
- weave in ends. (unless you're lazy and don't think anyone will look inside, in which case knot the ends.)
- if the first tail isn't in the middle back of the sock, weave it in until it is. Crochet chain 7st with a 4mm hook and pull the tail through. Weave the end in so the crochet chain forms a little loop.

Finished length is about 3.75" (unblocked), and it's about 1.5" wide at the top. It could easily be worked up in thinner yarn on smaller needles, but the proportions of the leg and instep would need to change for it to look the same. Or increase the number of stitches to compensate. With more stitches, there would be room for some Fair Isle patterns.

Mini-socks are fun, quick, and I like that they actually hold things. They're often used as a gateway project for learning sock knitting, too. They are not, however, necessarily good projects for learning how to use dpns, because they're quite small and that can be fiddly.

Note, I haven't forgotten about the screencaps. I just haven't gotten around to it. Will do it soon.

I still do fan crafting, just not much HP lately. This latest bit is HP through devious routes.

So, a beanie style hat, a bucket style hat (because I couldn't decide on the hats), a scarf, and a pair of mittens. They are for glockgal from whom I commissioned a piece of fan art. The resulting art is gorgeous, and you can see it here if you're interested. It's crackified and hilarious (and completely G rated).

If you look at the painting you may notice a certain similarity, although not 100% correspondence, between the set I made and the set worn by a certain cranky Potions Master in the painting. That was deliberate. :D That was the commission request, actually, that Snape be wearing the stuff I knit up. Looking at the colors involved, I think it's clear just why he's so cranky. XD

Everything was worked up in elann Highland Wool in colors 1150 (butterscotch) and 2124 (oxblood). 3 of the red and 4 of the gold, with essentially none of the red left and about half a ball of gold left.

The scarf is 66" long not including 9" of fringe and was worked up in k1p1 ribbing. It's slighly over 5" wide, and the stripes are each 3.5" tall. I worked a slip stitch selvedge and used an odd number of stitches. I also used the crochet/bind-off cast-on so the ends would be identical. Using a smaller needle on both ends also helped reduce flaring of the ribbing. Careful spacing of the tassels also helps minimize flaring.

I made my standard top down mittens, with Fibonacci sequence stripes for a bit of interest, and tassels for whimsy. Since gold is the main color in the set, I made the tops of the mittens gold to match the rest of the pieces, even though that means the mittens have more red in them. This puts the coordinating gold where it's most visible. Also, since I made a left and right mitten, the tassels are slightly different so they can be differentiated quickly.

All the small tassels are adjustable/removable, as is the cord connecting the two mittens. The hats and the mittens each have a small loop of crochet chain for attaching things. Everything is then joined with a girth hitch or lark's foot knot.

I've discovered 2 things recently.
1) A standard plastic DVD case is perfect for making 4.5" long self knotted tassels when using 5 strands per tassel. Wrapped the short way around, the channel in the middle of the case means it's easy to slip a scissor under the strands to cut them. If I had wrapped and tied them instead of knotting them, they would be longer of course.

2) An altoid tin is really handy for making small tassels. Close the end of the yarn in the tin and the wrap the short way around 10-16 times, and then cut a long tail. Use the tail to tie it all together and then fluff it up. The slight gap formed by the rolled edge of the tin cover means it's easy to slip a yarn needle through to start the tying off procedure. I don't bother cutting these little tassels because they last longer and are fluffier without cutting. This is how I made all the tassels shown.

Here's what I'm looking for: a pattern. Last year, I made the Stitch N' Bitch hat, Hot Head. I followed the k2p2 pattern, and wanted to make a rim so it would flip up in front. So, I switched to stockinette, then I did something wrong, and by the time my beautiful green (I love the color) hat was done, the k2p2 pattern above and below the stockinette did not match up. Plus, when I decreased the top, I got left with a point that makes my head look like a nipple or a condom, depending on your humor. Anyway, if you can help it would be greatly appreciated. I also want it known that this hat is for me, I'm male, and I have a huge head, LOL. Thanks, everyone.

P.S. Started my Weasley sweater, and it's looking great so far, but I want a side project as well. A very wise person (my_wanderlust) told me to have a side project and they're right.

New to the community and fairly new to knitting, but definitely not new when it comes to Harry Potter.

I picked up Charmed Knits, and CANNOT WAIT to start my Weasley sweater. However, I have a question.

I live in NJ. Does anyone know where I would get the Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran Tweed yarn? I mean, would they sell it at AC Moore or Michael's?

And if not, what can I get in lieu of this that his a similar consistency and color and feel and whatnot?

Please help. Nice to meet you, I'm Carlos.

as I have admittedly slacked off this week in my duties as a crafty witch (and yes, I *am* taking the excuse that I am a new kitty mom)....I have finished one VERY important project for the year....

So....as much bravado as I try to have....and as much as I like my own work....I am also my own worst critic....

HOWEVER, I do feel pleased about this one... I hope the eventual recipient agrees....

and a close up of the top part...

The logo design is courtesy of the ever lovely josee_madalia....

Feedback is appreciated...

*bites nails*

x-posted to my own journal.....
