I knitted a Weasley sweater for my baby, and I just had to post a picture here.
( Too cute! )

i found this fabric a couple years ago, and decided to buy some. it sat neatly in a shopping bag until a month ago, when i sewed it up into this neat quilt/wall hanging. there's padding in between this two layers, making it quite soft, and the back (shown on the right) has a soft glitter glaze over it, making it really pretty. i also added glitter glaze over harry's yellow wand trail. it looks great at night, glowing in the light of a small lamp!

also, if anyone would be interested in purchasing it, i am selling it. sadly, i am going off to college and do not have room to display it anymore, and i'd rather somebody enjoy it than me storing it away. |

since it's quieter over here than in hp_knitting i figured i'd share this here. i just got done watching the HBP trailer and now i'm all sorts of motivated to finish my in progress house scarves and to share my accidental HP knit. story - i decided to knit some diaper soakers for my newborn and decided to go through my stash and see what i could use up there. happened to pull out some blue, green, cream, and grey. decided to pair the green with the cream and the blue with the grey. it wasn't until i'd pretty much finished the soaker and was looking at it that i went "hey you know, that rather looks like Ravenclaw colors..." it was a totally unconscious choice when i put the blue with the grey. got a kick out of that because i think of myself as a Ravenclaw. they wouldn't have been my first choice for Ravenclaw colors but it's close enough. hee! the colors are a bit lighter than they are in the picture. the blue yearn is some nice wool that i can't remember the name of that was given to me by a friend who was de-stashing. the grey is actually Caron Simply Soft. i purposefully chose a nice soft acrylic for the waist and legs because i have a bit of a sensitivity to wool (makes me itch) and i was afraid the baby might have the same problem. so i wanted something different on the parts where the soaker would be touching skin and not diaper. and sorry about the blurriness. it was a cloudy day and for some reason when i take pictures inside on a cloudy day they come out blurry. i have yet to figure out why. anyway.

I'm sweltering in the heat of summer scrambling madly to get ready for Terminus, and I realized I had stuff to post. :)
So, I'm procrastinating from my big pile of fic to read to do 2 things.
The first is to show off a hat, scarf, glove set I knit for a friend in exchange for art. ( Wit Beyond Measure )
The second is to mention that I'll be leading the two knitting workshops at Terminus because jkg_vader can't make it. :( My sessions are Friday at 3:30 and Saturday at 2 and I learned today that the room has a 24 person capacity. So on the one hand I invite everyone to stop on by with their knitting/crocheting/etc if you like. BUT, I might have to kick out folks who don't need knitting help, if the room fills beyond capacity. I don't expect it to, but I figured I might as well include that caveat. Regardless, I hope folks who are going to be at Terminus will stop by and say "hello", at the least. :) You can watch me try and knit with my giant knitting needles! OK, they're smaller in diameter than a US#50, but not by much! :DCurrent Mood: hot

Hi! I've been watching this community for some time now and only recently joined. It's lovely to have a place where fellow knitters and HP fans can chat and share their creations. You've inspired me to start my own little project for my growing "Weasley" family! : ) |
| » ravelry |
I just joined ravelry today and joined there "new knitters" group. Since I am so new to that website and don't know quite how to work it yet I thought I'd ask my question here. On to the question: how do you read a knitting pattern on that website? or in general. All I how worked is two simple scarves (garter stitch) simple, no pattern needed :). I don't want to get confused and discouraged so any help would be nice. Thank you for your time.

This is my own Weasley knitting project, a Ravenclaw scarf. I actually started it last June (I have fits of knitting, rather than doing it by any sort of schedule).

| » question about scarfs |
Hi, I'm new to knitting in general (started in March of this year :) I'm on my second scarf and I have the same problem that I had with the first one. The sides of the scarf are bumpy and not even looking like the rest of the scarfs I see people knit on line. How do you get it to look so clean lined and straight? Sorry if this is hard to understand.

| » Ron's Red Sweater |
Hi everyone, I'm new both to this group and to knitting in general. I actually got inspired to take up knitting because of the Harry Potter series, and all the fabulous knittery that it contains.
I was wondering if anyone knows where to get a pattern for Ron's red sweater in Prizoner of Azkaban (photo here). I'd love to make it, and I'm sure it's not too tough, but I don't want to forge ahead without some sort of pattern, seeing as I'm a noob.
If there is a free pattern available somewhere, obviously that's best, but I don't mind buying a book. I just haven't been able yet to find any books with this pattern. Lots of Weasley letter sweaters, but not the red one.
Thanks in advance!

| » overdue posting of an FO |
a few weeks before the holiays i it's from Charmed Knits, Bill's wand case, but altered a little. my son likes to play knight so i turned it into a scabbard for one of his swords. all i needed to do was make it yellow (his favorite color), lengthen it, and instead of the belt loop, make a tie to go around his waist (he doesn't wear belts). i've been meaning to borrow Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them from the library again to see if there's a dragon that could account for the yellow color. we shall see. i just wanted to share. :-) even though it's not technically HP, it's a pattern from the HP knitting book. it was fun and would've taken me less time had a stayed focused on it better. but it does look like scales.

| » single sock syndrome is not a problem |
when it's a Slytherin Christmas stocking. It's even less of a problem when it's this small and worked up in worsted weight yarn.
There are loads of mini-sock and mini-stocking patterns around, although most use thinner yarn. I decided to make one up as I went along since I wanted to use scraps of worsted weight yarn I've got lying around. This is really just a regular ol' sock, worked up to smaller size and slightly funky proportions. But then, that's pretty much what all mini-socks are. For some reason, though, people seem to like to work a gusseted heel flap instead of a short row heel, and I like the short row heel and toe.
( pics and a shorthand recipe )
Note, I haven't forgotten about the screencaps. I just haven't gotten around to it. Will do it soon.

Colorwise, at least. And the owls are a nod to the goddess of wisdom. ;) ( Read more... )
Yep, it's the same hat as is in my journal and which I just posted completed on Ravelry. I'm redundant....

| » Pattern Help |
Here's what I'm looking for: a pattern. Last year, I made the Stitch N' Bitch hat, Hot Head. I followed the k2p2 pattern, and wanted to make a rim so it would flip up in front. So, I switched to stockinette, then I did something wrong, and by the time my beautiful green (I love the color) hat was done, the k2p2 pattern above and below the stockinette did not match up. Plus, when I decreased the top, I got left with a point that makes my head look like a nipple or a condom, depending on your humor. Anyway, if you can help it would be greatly appreciated. I also want it known that this hat is for me, I'm male, and I have a huge head, LOL. Thanks, everyone.
P.S. Started my Weasley sweater, and it's looking great so far, but I want a side project as well. A very wise person (my_wanderlust) told me to have a side project and they're right.

| » Scarves |
I really want to make my Aunt a Harry Potter Scarf, she got me into the books long ago. And I think the knitted scarves look better than the crocheted ones. The only problem, I don't knit. I got a beginners book to help me out, but I don't know what to start with for the scarf, size needles and what not. Anyone have any ideas, or tips for me? Thank you Tariana

This is a Snape-inspired owl I made for my friend. The face is a little hard to see because of the scarf. X3 Made with the amigurumi method of crochet.
