| Spit the Dark on guitar |

So I am a beginner in guitar and I love Spit the Dark, so I got the chords off of a website listed before.
It is a pretty easy song and I went over it with my teacher, but do you think it is better to focus on learning the words with the chords and then work harder on learning the chords or is it better to get the chords 100% and then sing it with the words once you've got it all?
Much help is appreciated. |

I wimped out and didn't take the DSLR - so, of course, lots of people had them, but not me. *sigh* Still, I have a decent point-and-shoot and a barrier spot, so I managed quite a few photos, and some of them even turned out.
Not watermarked, so please do not repost without asking. Thanks! (and yes, I did keep catching Mike in the corner...) Photobucket has been rotating images on me - didn't used to do that - so I hope things aren't sideways

| empires at summerfest |

so my computer has basically no disk space so I won't be able to deliver my awesome empires photos from summerfest until i get my laptop, but i'd just like to share a bit.
I was in the front-center, so I was pretty much as close as you could be without being a bigshot photog, and would I have killed to be one of those!
During soundcheck I yelled at Sean and waved and he waved back.
Also, Tom and I had a brief conversation which was pretty hard, considering we were ten feet and different heights because he was up on stage and all.
Me: TOM!
Tom: Hey.
Me: I'm a big fan! i've been waiting here for two hours!
Tom: That's awesome.
...And then he went back to doing important stuff.

But still, it owned my life.
I'll be sure to notify you guys when the pictures are up!

I plan on buying the hoodie pretty soon from the webstore. But I'm not sure what size to get, since it's not American Apparel. Can anyone tell me how it fits compared to AA? I usually wear a medium, if that helps.

Is anyone planning to go down to the Taste of Chicago show on Friday? I'm going to be in Chicago all summer for a school thing, but I don't know too many people there and I only arrive Thursday afternoon. It would be awesome to meet some other empires fans as this will be my first time seeing them live! |

BTW, if anyone is doing Summerfest, the "get in free" deal for the 3rd is showing a receipt (dated between 6/25 and 7/3) that says you bought two 10 oz. or larger bags of any Malt-O-Meal Bag Cereals. It's good for the first 1,500 patrons. (Otherwise tickets are $8 before 4pm and $15 after.) |

6-2-09 | Chicago Bottom Lounge Sell Out + Summer Plans
Thank you to everyone for coming to Bottom Louge in Chicago last week and helping us sell the room out. Lots o' love to family, friends, Company of Thieves, American Taxi and Thrillage. We try very hard to make each Chicago show special and worth the wait. We already have a small, intimate club show in the works for late August to test run what we've been so busy with in studio. There is so much for you to hear! We'll be announcing details shortly.
For the past few weeks, we've been quite busy recording the foundation for over a dozen songs. Max is responsible for this mess once again and will lead us through tracking. Ryan and Alfred have finished recording their instruments, leaving Max and I to wrap up guitars in the next few days. I'm not sure how many of the songs will see the light of day but we definitely have enough material to begin shaping what will be our next release. We've become pack rats of a band with stock piling new melodies, ideas, chord progressions, equipment since last winter in which we can deliver something we have not done yet together. We hope to look back on the wreckage with mixes by the end of the month.
I seriously can't believe HOWL was released just over a year ago. Thanks to everyone involved with They Just Howl, we were all very surprised. Even though our minds have been focusing mainly on the new material, we have not forgotten about the cities we have yet to travel to on HOWL. We have our eyes on you miss Pacific. Until then, we'll be keeping busy with summer festivals and midwest dates. Come outside and sweat a little with us this summer.

Hey guys, I saw this on the theyareempires twitter earlier, and it's on the band's myspace, so I thought I'd post the details here too.
Wicker Park fest is July 25th and 26th, and the donation for each day is $5 at the gate. I don't know if the guys are actually playing at 2:15 or not - I thought I read on the fest's myspace page that the lineup/order hadn't been finalized yet, but I could be wrong.
I, for one, am super excited because the 26th is my 22nd birthday! Who's up for driving from Michigan? :P
