Fic that was supposed to be light and funny and non-doomy, and for the most part is, only some creepy foreshadowing snuck in there, because who am I kidding, it's DT.

A while ago, I started working on my own interpretation of a full DT Tarot Deck. I didn't get very far past the Major Arcana, and at first was all "oh, can't post it til the whole thing's done!" but a)that's not happening anytime soon and b)we got to talking about it chat tonight and I decided I wanted to post what I have. So, here it is:
( Some of the cards deal with characters or situations from DT7. Be warned. )
And, on a side note...if anyone with artisty skillz wanted to try drawing this...*puppy dog eyes* |

Okay, I have gone through the poll answers -- I'm actually organized for once! And the day that looks to be the best for the fighting-skills demonstration is this Friday, July 15.
I know not everyone can make it. There wasn't a single day that everyone could make. This was the day the greatest number of people could, though. If you can't, and you want your character to be there, we can arrange it, with a combination of godding (if you're willing) and places left for reactions to be stuck in later via the magic of millitime.
See you then! |

There has been talk for a while of a demonstration of what gunslingers can do, which would probably be ideally combined with some kind of demonstration of what the others who will be involved in this plot can do, too. After all, going into a desperate and high-stakes fight without knowing for certain what the people at your side are capable of is kind of, well, silly.
Eddie mentioned to Roland a good while ago that he thought Jayne would benefit from a demonstration. More recently, Zoe explicitly asked Alain about one; he agreed that it was a good notion, and passed it on to Roland. They both agreed, IC, that soon would be best.
So! The problem is, there are lots of characters who could be involved in this. The absolute minimum would be the gunslingers demonstrating -- Roland and Susannah, the old man and the legless woman, was Roland's notion -- and the fighting folk from Serenity. It'd be more fun and more practical to have as many involved people as we can there, I think, and certainly as many as we can manage of the people who will be expected to do actual fighting.
Ergo, a poll.

So, remember that fic I was working on about Bert's gunslinger trial?
It sort of died when I got to a part with Cort in it, as I couldn't quite hear his voice in my head.
Funny what something like, oh, say, Cortinnabar!! will do for that.

PSA: If you are involved in this plot, please follow this link for details on backstory and current events. You will need to be logged in as your character.
You may very well find this useful information to have before the palaver.
Thank you, and I now return you to your regularly scheduled day. |

So. As has been mentioned before, the Serenity folken and the ka-tet really need to sit down and hold palaver.
That, of course, requires coordination of the better part of a dozen muns, even with several of us playing multiple characters. And, barring spur-of-the-moment gestalt like the commala-thread, that means OOC scheduling.
So everybody head on over to this post at whedon_ways and comment, would you? Thankee-sai. |

So. Some of y'all saw this -- the lyrics to "Hallelujah", by Soul Miner's Daughter. (A local band with two frontpeople, one of whom is a friend of mine, the other of whom is an alumna of my college and is now part of the band Sugarland.)
It is my sekrit meta DT song, especially for Milliways.
And very early this morning people asked me to put up the song on YSI. So.
Here you go.
And now I go sleep. |

...right. I've been feeling increasingly burnt out with playing in Milliways (although oddly, I've been enjoying reading it as much as ever) and some time today the subtle connection between the time I spend on this and the enjoyment I get out of it snapped. I've felt myself pass the point before in other games, where playing in a game was no longer fun and became something I realized I 'had' to do on top of the eight bajillion other things I have to do everyday, and I swore when I started playing at MIlliways that the moment I felt that -- the moment I felt like going to Bad RPers Suck because I didn't want the trouble that would come with being open but couldn't swallow my issues, or got myself in an awkward position socially because of obligations IC and OOC or developed personal specific enemies or any of the other fun-sucking parasites that prey on online RPGs, I'd walk away. When I spend three hours checking the main bar intermittently and see no way I can play and have fun with any of three completely different characters, but have the energy for OOC wank, things have shifted too far. When the only reason I post in in a week is to confirm that my character is gone and to fulfill an obligation to Josie, things have shifted too far.
I imagine I'll keep reading, and perhaps this summer I'll pick up some other characters, or just Monkey again--Monkey is easy and light-hearted fun and has no plot whatsoever. Also, there were plots I was helping people plan, because I like plotting things, whether or not I'm a part of it, and I'll continue bouncing ideas with people, if people still want me to.
I'll be wrapping the Eddie plot ASAP, although with less ceremony than I had originally planned, by far. I'll need your help, Aspen, as Moiraine for healing, and I think that's it. Afterwards, Eddie will be locked in his room for a while--people who want to interact with him for closure can ping me and we'll set up threads; I'm thinking particularly of passing on his gun to Jake as promised. Then I'll move him and Susannah out of the bar. I'll leave a back door in case Lise wants to bring Suze back in, but I know she wasn't planning to play much at all past this summer anyway.
I've had a lot of fun. Thanks. Sorry that this will raise the general angst level of the bar, but as I say I intend to leave a backdoor, and people can feel free to say they've been visiting Eddie and he made a lot of lame jokes and is recovering well. Y'all know my liberal feelings about godding.

| | disjointed enough to do this | ] | I've been thinking, recently, about rhymes and songs for Mid-World. Canon gives us a few, and alludes to more, but mostly there's just the sense of a full world of stories and songs and knowledge floating around that we don't necessarily ever see in enough detail to pin down much of it. This works wonderfully well for setting atmosphere and giving a layered world, but for RP purposes it mostly means that people end up singing "Hey Jude" a whole lot. Because the easiest approach to take is to have pretty much all the Mid-World characters know and like the same few rhymes and songs unless canon explicitly says otherwise.
Since I am both contrary and ambitious about the small irrelevant stuff, I have been pondering writing Mid-World folk songs instead. Though I haven't actually done it beyond nebulous thoughts of a few choruses.
And then tonight, there was the jump-rope thread. Which, naturally, necessitated skipping rhymes for Susan!
...I maybe got a little carried away. Some of them are a game of spot-the-Guardian-reference (or spot-the-faint-innuendo); some of them are just silliness. Aspen helped with some of them.

Hi guys! Aspen and I have been talking. We've been talking a lot actually, and I've talked with John, too. I think we have some theories on how London Below in Neverwhere canon (which is Ingress and Door's canon, as well as Tom's adopted canon) might fit in with DT, as all of our worlds begin to collide in such interesting ways.
I'd like to present a few of the topics for your discussion.
For those of you who don't know about London Below, it is pretty much a parallel world to London Above, the regular London. It is the place where the people who slip through the cracks end up. It is also where time and places end up as Door says: "There are pockets of old time in London, where things and places stay the same like bubbles in amber. There's a lot of time in London, and it has to go somewhere - it doesn't all get used up at once."
London Below is a place of darkness, forgotten people and places, and chaos. (O Discordia?) The House of the Arch is an important institution, an opening family. In Neverwhere, Door prays "to the Temple, to the Arch" for a way out of a dangerous situation, and the swear "Temple and Arch" is used often. As openers, they can open locks, doors, and less tangible ways and doors. Door's father, before his murder, wanted to unite the Underside. In Millicanon we've extrapolated the roll of the House of Arch to make them diplomats; a family that "opens ways, doors, hearts and minds" in the Underside. Roland has already talked to Tom about the Manni, and Aspen and I have also discussed the Manni who left their clans. If they could open doors to other worlds, perhaps some opened their ways into London Below. It is Millicanon that openers have lived in the Underside since the time the cities began, and every city has a family of openers.
Another thing we'd discussed was the existence of the Great Beasts of the Cities. Every major city has an Underside, and each Underside has a Great Beast. By the time of Neverwhere, several have been killed by Hunter, a woman who betrays Door (Hunter was her bodyguard) for a special spear with which to kill the Beast of London (a giant boar). This beast haunts the labyrinth - one of the oldest places in London Below, "Before King Lud founded the village there was a labyrinth" - the labyrinth lays before the angel Islington's citadel and prison. The Beast is not there from the beginning, but serves as an extra obstacle to the citadel. None of the beasts seem to be dangerous to anyone who doesn't try to kill it or get past by it, so I am theorizing they are guardians. Hunter killed the alligator-king of NYC, the giant weasel of Bangkok, the bear of Berlin who "whispered words in a human tongue as he died", and the giant tiger of Calcutta.
In summation, it would seem to me that London Below and all the other Cities Below are places of chaos with giant beasts guarding certain important areas and ancient families of openers attempting to keep the peace as best they can.
Does anyone else thin there might be similarities that could be woven into the DT multiverse? I would really, really love to explore some of the similarities in game more, if possible.

Cross-posting this from whedon_ways for simon_doctor:
So there's this idea that's been niggling at a few of us for a while now, and we may as well get it out here for actual discussion.
Clearly the Academy is, if not another Algul Siento, something broadly similar. It's been established that they're working to break the Beam of Lion-and-Eagle, and they may be doing other nasty things as well toward the same ultimate end.
Someone really ought to do something about them. Perhaps several someones.
We still haven't established firmly whether Firefly continuity and Dark Tower continuity take place in Different Levels or merely Different Ages (see terminology aide!), and we may not want to. But thanks to the magic of Milliways, it may not matter.
Discuss.

There's no real conclusion I'm drawing from this, although if we want to attempt to create one I'm all for the geekery of it. It's just the result of me going "Na'ar? I know that word!" and then having fun with my Arabic-English dictionary. (Which is great fun, I assure you! Er, if you're me.)
