8:51 am - This community in the news again!

From Philadelphia Weekly's spring issue
And people flock. The cult of Wawa is strong and terrifying. There’s the LiveJournal community posting things like the “Open Prayer to the God of Wawa.” (“Oh god of Wawa we praise thee. We … would be lost without thy Shorti hoagies, thy cream cheese pretzels, thy wraps … ”) They gush on directory sites like Yelp.com and gather in painfully long lines on Saturday nights. There are Wawa tours, Wawa credit cards and the pitiful moans of displaced (and hungry) Philadelphians.
nice!

So did Wawa get you hooked during the holidays and now you're seeing it's gone from the shelves?
Are you missing Wawa and want to have some in your own home?
Well, fret no more dear Wawa Lovers.
Thanks to a gifting situation, I have 4 extra 8 oz sealed bags. That's 32 ounces of Chocolately Caramel goodness you can enjoy in your own home. These bags retailed for $2.99 each. I'm willing to part with all 4 at $10 plus priority shipping.
Such a bargain.
Interested?
comment here and we'll work it out.
First come first served!

I love love love the grapes, cheese and crackers pack. I was wondering if anyone knows what the crackers are that are used in it. Would love to have them to munch on their own!
Thanks!

2:03 pm - Wawa opens in Eagleswood....

Wawa opens in Eagleswood... well, not really. An Eagleswood Elementary student created a drive-thru Wawa (gee, how prophetic is that?) during today's "Scooterville," where children drive around "roads" in the gym, obey traffic signs and shop on a $5 budget.
I didn't do the story, but I saw the photos. can't wait to see the print version to see if they ran the above photo.

I transferred to a new office, in Toms River. Normally to get there, it's faster and easier to cut through Pine Lake Park and avoid Route 37.
I had to get there by 37, however, and imagine my surprise when I saw a sign near Northampton Boulevard and 37 announcing a Wawa to be built there! I'm assuming it's going to be a replacement for the non-gas store at Commonwealth and 37, which is only a short ride up the road.
Now the question is, are there any pine snakes which will derail this store, as has delayed the Super Wal-Mart at the corner across the street?

9:22 pm - Road trip....

Jenn had a roller derby party down in Margate... and that means road trip:
#950, Margate, 9300 Washington Ave. Accidentally deleted this photo, and I wish I hadn't. The store is neat, blends in with the area - we had a hard time believing it was a Wawa. The bathroom (unisex) is behind the deli, to the left, with the office to its right. There's also a blacked-out window that either leads into the cooler or is a dummy window.
#753, Ventnor, 5212 Ventnor Avenue. Similar in layout to #741, the old Little Egg Harbor Wawa, with the bathrooms on the left. There were two cop cars, and I didn't want to answer any question, so I shot this without a flash after they left.
#434, Ventnor, 301 N. Dorset Ave. IMHO, how not to do a Wawa. The store seemed big from the outside for the lot in which it's on - and inside seemed cramped as well. The store actually faces the side street, and has no back lot, so we were wondering how they handled their deliveries.
And as soon as I find it, I'll add #978, the new LEH one. And if anyone has a photo of #950, feel free to send it my way.

5:43 pm - New store!

I got a call about the ribbon cutting yesterday, but was out:
LITTLE EGG HARBOR: A new Wawa convenience store opened Wednesday on Mathistown Road near Center Street. Mayor Barbara ""Bobbi'' Jo Crea was among those who attended the ribbon cutting. The store, the township's second Wawa, also sells gasoline and replaces the nongasoline store at Mathistown and Radio roads, said Flo Blanche, assistant manager. Blanche said Wawa has about 560 stores in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia. "It's been nonstop since we opened," Blanche said. "We opened at 8 a.m. and cars were waiting even before then. We had drivers stop, turn around, then come in to the store."
I may have time tomorrow where I can take a looksee inside the place (and find out the store number.) Then I'll post the photo I took (with the $9.999 gas price) to my Flickr account.

I don't know if any of you shop at the wawa gas store in quakertown. There was a manager there named Brian who was transfered away. He was the friendliest and most curtious person there and we need him back! He was the best to work with too. please call Tom Hasiek at our regional office 215-361-3260 and say that you want Brian back at 272!

Stop closing locations that are within 5 miles of the new "Superwawa" -- You're a fucking CONVENIENCE store, if I can't conveniently stop and pick up my Lemonade tea, I'm not going to stop at all!
I love you so much, why do you do these things to me!!
Sources: Jackson Rd., Atco, NJ Wawa has closed, who the hell is going to get on 73 to goto the superwawa that far away? LAME!
Erial Rd. at the Erial fire hall - this was the wawa on my way to my mom's house, and you took it away.
Damn you!

1:33 am - Not quite a Wawa....
|

I had the pleasure of spending a few hours in Community Medical Center's (Toms River) ER last night (not me.) I was wondering if people had bought Wawa coffee and were getting the cups refilled until I wandered closer to the small food stand. Two of the carafes were Wawa-labelled (regular and decaf), and there were three sizes of Wawa coffee cups.
Now, I wonder if the regular cafeteria also sells Wawa coffee, and if they perchance sell the premade hoagies....

...it must be Belgium, as the old catchphrase goes.
I had a bit of time before work, so I drove out to Little Egg Harbor to see if the new gas Wawa was open. Nope, and the old Wawa (on Mathistown and Radio roads) sez they're undergoing a tech upgrade in another week, so figure at least that time before the new one opens.
But I was amused. The store, from the outside, looks complete and evidently, they were testing the gas price sign, which read $9.999 per gallon for all three grades. For a moment I thought I was in Europe, but then I realized European gas isn't that expensive....
Last Friday I was on the gas court and during the night two people stopped and asked directions. So I didn't think anything of it when a van pulled up to myself and another attendant.
Turns out he didn't need directions. What happened was he was out of cigarettes and out of money, and was trying to get us to buy these 14 porno DVDs for $20 so he could buy some cigarettes.
Just think of the thought process here. "Hmmmm. It's 22.30, and I have no cigarettes and I have no money. Because it's late, I can't ask Freddo for cigarettes, and the stationery store is closed so I can't get a gimme. I know, I'll just scoop up this collection of porno DVDs I have and try and hock them at the Wawa rather just bum a cigarette off of someone outside the store."
Sunday I had a guy who wanted a gallon of gas - in a glass jar. No can do, I told him. Even if he pumped it himself? he asked. Still no can do. He try to explain by saying that he was at his summer home, but I wouldn't budge. I guess if you rent or own a summer home you're exempt from having to buy a regulation container to store your gas in.

I had a chance to be down in Little Egg Harbor last night and the new gas store isn't open yet (the parking lot isn't paved yet.) I needed dinner, so I went to the one it's going to replace (Mathistown and Radio Road), and asked: They're scheduled to move there Nov. 8.

7:31 am - Nasty Rumours

So has anyone else heard that Wawa is slowly divesting itself of the non gas locations? Friend of me was telling me this last night.
He lives in the Phila burbs and he went into what he thought was a Wawa and ended up being in a Pantry 1 Food Mart.
So has anyone else been noticing this? Heard any of the rumours?
