AboutThe purpose of this community is to share and discover music in the new wave/ post-punk realm, be it the obvious or the obscure.
Rules:
1) All posts must contain a song or link to songs. The easiest way to do this is to upload files to either your own server or a free hosting site like Savefile or Rapidshare. Sites like those typically delete your file after x number of downloads or x number of days, so it's entirely up to you as to whether or not you choose to upload the files again.
2) No advertizing of communities (unless permission is granted by the mods) or posting of flyers/setlists is allowed. Advertising your band is fine and good if your music is relevant to the vein of this community and you have a means of sharing your music online.
3) WHAT TO POST: Experimental new wave, synthpop, electro, Futurist, "New Romantic", lighter post-punk, 80's pop-punk, soul-synth, new wave funk, 80's indie, 80's Eurodisco, etc. (Basically anything under the blanket term that is "new wave")
What Not To Post: Trance/house/techno/IDM, J-pop/J-rock, contemporary punk, "New New Wave" (bands like the Killers, Interpol, the Futureheads, etc.), EBM, modern synthpop posted indiscriminantly, 80's trad rock/generic pop, German "oontz" stuff.

4) Please be polite and courteous. If you don't like a band, there's no need to flame someone for posting one of their songs. Hell, flaming somebody just because you don't like them, while you may find it funny, is usually more annoying than anything. Rudeness will not be tolerated, and repeat offenses may result in being banned.
5) MP3 and WMA formats only! Zip and rar files are okay if you're sharing a whole album. Videos are also okay. MP3 and WMA are generally universal formats. Other formats may not be compatible with certain players or computer programs, so please keep it to either one of these two formats.
6) Please refrain from posting pirated MP3's. Post only files that you have obtained legally. Granted, exceptions can be made (if something is incredibly rare, then chances are I'll let it slide). True, we have no way of enforcing this rule unless we know for a fact that you didn't buy the CD, but please consider the fact that many of these musicians are broke, and a lot of them never really had the money that their elaborate outfits and lavish music videos implied. Seriously, being a musician is NOT a profession that will typically make you a lot of money, Madonna and Michael Jackson are exceptions to the rule.

It doesn't necessarily have to be in that format, but you get the idea, right? Many of us are anal-retentive audiophiles and have elaborate folder systems for our music collections.

newdance has run the LJ-admin console code so that all posts are auto-posted with a minimum security level of "Friends Only". Please don't change the security level of your posts manually. This is to protect the community.
8) Post as much as you want. If you do, we'll do the same.
10. This is a moderated-membership community. This means members are approved or rejected before they can post. When you click the link to join, we go and look at your profile and then approve you. This is mostly to keep out trolls -- BUT if we suspect you're homophobic (by the way, the moderators are gay) or racist (we have Colourbox and General Public on the interests, for fuck's sake!), you'll be denied without question. If we let you in and you post the latest White Power album anyway, you'll get booted and band and your post deleted.
Keep in mind that deviations are allowed and even expected (again, "wave" is a blanket term).
And most importantly: If you download something and like it, please support the artist and buy their music.
Breaking these rules will result in a minimum punishment of the deleting of your post and a maximum punishment of being banned.
