you see, i did a google scholar search on miley cyrus and i still do not know why she is so famous. there exists no single person (or group) in my living memory that even compares. she epitomizes pop culture. if this were a dictatorship, one would think it was hers....if this was a dictatorship, one would think it were hers...were,were?...right, i am not a writer so i pass this task of public service unto the populous of wash u b/c we're a right smart bunch. it would be a good investigation in either business or anthropology and i'm positive it would get published. please copy me on your final draft. thank you.

| Is WashU reputable and FUN.... |
[04 Aug 2008|04:13pm] |
Hey all,
I am a senior in high school and I am beginning my college search. I am planning on doing premed and WashU is one of my top choices. I heard it has a highly competitve atmosphere and that the students don't have much time to do anything else besides studying to ensure they pass their classes. So what is the atmosphere truly like and are premeds capable of studying AND having a stable social life (including partying, clubs/organizations, going out into the city, and volunteering)? Basically, will I be able to have the entire "college experience"? Feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

| Public Transportation? |
[08 Jul 2008|09:46am] |
|
I'll be moving to St. Louis this year to start grad school at Wash U, and I'm going there this week to check out apartments. I'll be at Wash U's housing day, and I'm trying to figure out if I need to rent a car. Is it possible to get from the airport to Wash U to the CWE using public transportation? Someone linked me to a site, but I couldn't figure it out. :( Thanks for any help you can give!

| CWE apartment recommendations? |
[05 Jul 2008|10:03pm] |
Hi folks! My beau and myself are moving to St. Louis in late August and are looking for personal recommendations for apartments in the Central West End. I'm of course checking out Craiglist et al., but recommendations (or warnings) from real people seem preferable.
( Read on if you might be able to help! )

This may be old news to some people, and I'm not sure if WU even has any classes there anymore now that Sam Fox is in use. But hey! Meet the Lewis Center. Er, excuse me, meet the Art Academy Building, courtesy of a hundred years ago.

I'm moving; I need boxes. I don't have a car, though I'm not afraid of walking and I'm an old hand at the Metro. Any suggestions on free or cheap moving boxes? Because I'm always sad at handing over money for cardboard.
P.S. I live around the Loop.

| Donating food or meal points? |
[16 Apr 2008|07:02pm] |
|
Hello all!
I have over 200 meal points left and I know I won't be able to get through them, much less through the rest of my remaining points. Does anyone know of some campus food drive I could either donate points directly to or for which I can buy some canned goods, cereals, etc.?

| An outsider needs some help looking for housing |
[16 Apr 2008|02:04pm] |
Hello, people of St Louis! More importantly, the people that go to or work for Wash U.
My friend did her undergraduate work at the University of Illinois, and she will be going for her molecular genetics and genomics graduate degree here with you guys soooo that means the School of Medicine campus, right? She's looking for apartments. She'll most likely be living by herself, and she has two kitties.
HELP, GUYS! Where do you recommend she lives? What are some good realtors? Who should she avoid?

| Requirements |
[15 Apr 2008|01:59pm] |
Hello- I'm about to register for classes, and I'm looking for a class that will fulfull a CD or SD requirement (I've taken cultural Anthro to fulfil one of them). I have a very heavy course load this semester, so I'm looking for an interesting class that won't be too time consuming so I can focus on my other classes. Has anyone taken any classes like that to fulfil the CD or SD requirements?
Thanks!

[14 Apr 2008|10:25am] |
I really want to take Intro to Sexuality Studies and The Golden Age of Children's Literature, but the only way I can fit them both into my schedule next semester is to have class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-4 with a one-hour break, which isn't ideal. Does anyone have a suggestion about which one I should try to take first? I know that the Children's Lit class is only offered in the fall. Is there a big difference between the workload in each class?
Thanks in advance for your help!

| Hello! |
[13 Apr 2008|02:04pm] |
Hey everyone! I'm an admitted Danforth scholar to Wash U this year, and I'm definitely attending Wash U ^^ I went to a scholarship admit weekend that pretty much sealed the deal for me and showed me that Wash U is my dream school.
I'm doing Housing right now, and debating whether to pay for the gym or not. Does anyone know if it's $30 per month or per school year? I didn't see the gym when I was there, is it usually very crowded?

| Cut-throat atmosphere? |

Honestly, what is the atmosphere at Wash U like? I know a lot of you adore Wash U from your posts and comments, but is it competitive and cut-throat? Please answer anonymously if you have to.

| Girl Scout cookies |
[16 Mar 2008|08:11pm] |
|
Is anyone still selling Girl Scout cookies, or do you know where I could get some? I tried to order them from a girl my RA babysits for but when my RA tried to give her our order the girl had already turned in the order form. I kind of forgot about it until I was home and saw a cookie booth but couldn't stop because we were stuck in awful traffic. Long story short, I was a Girl Scout for 10 years and I'm now craving Samoas and Tagalongs. If you could help me out, I'd really appreciate it!!

What's the transfer rate like at Washington University? I want to transfer to WashU from a community college, but I'm unsure if they would accept me. I have a 4.0 so far at community college and a 4.0 with 5 credits at the University of Washington, but my downfall is my high school GPA being around a 2.6. I have never taken the SATs/ACTs and am hoping to get it waived since WashU offers that (but it might hurt my chances). If it matters, I'm in the Phi Theta Kappa club, vice president of service for Circle K International (community service club), and treasurer of Rotaract (non-profit and service club).
I know this might not be the right place to ask so feel free to tell me to delete this post if it doesn't relate to this community and I'd totally understand.

[03 Mar 2008|01:31pm] |
Hi everyone! I'm a graduate student coming to Wash U in the fall from Los Angeles (I got a BS in Math at Cal State LA). I'll be studying computational biology on the med school campus. I'm an avid swing and blues dancer, I do western martial arts, and love cooking and food. I'm looking forward to getting to know the city!

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a place where I could get my car fixed. I'm looking for a place that's reasonably close to campus that won't rip me off since I don't know a whole lot about cars. Thanks.

| George Kovacs desk lamp |
[14 Feb 2008|09:15am] |
I've got a George Kovacs desk lamp to give away for $40. The original price was about $95, and I've been using it for only two weeks. Here's where I bought it from:
http://www.affordablelamps.com/kovacs-p210-084.html
I'm getting rid of it because the product quality wasn't quite what I expected, and now I've got a different one.

Some around-campus words to the wise: First of all, if anyone's ever used Parents' Weekend as an oppotunity to visit I Fratellini or the former Zoe Pan-Asian Cafe, the family responsible for those two restaurants have a couple more in the works around campus. If this is news to anyone, Zoe Robinson is apparently working on opening some sort of pan-Asian noodle place in the building with Kayak's and Tyler at Skinker and Forest Park, while her niece, after having spent some time living in Napoli, just opened a Napoli-style pizzeria in the long-empty storefront across from the Clayton Rd. Schnucks called Katie's Pizzeria and Cafe. I just went last weekend, highly recommend. (FYI: I'm not associated with either of the above, I just enjoy a good pizza or noodle dish.)
