Recycling Brita filters
Brita recently began accepting back its water filters for recycling; see here or here. You can ship them back or drop them off at a participating Whole Foods. The bad news is, there are no collection points in the DC area yet (i.e., no local Whole Foods are listed as participating). It seems wasteful to mail them back one by one, so I thought I might see if other people are interested.

Maybe we could get together and ask local Whole Foods to participate -- or local governments to accept the filters at their recycling drop-off locations. In the short term, maybe people with used filters can get together and pool our filters (and funds) to ship back a big box at a time.

Anyone interested?

See Take Back the Filter for more information.

hmm, i am guessing the environmental impact of even shipping 20 back at onceto recycle would be worse than just throwing them away.

it should also be noted how much insanely better for the environment a brita filter is over even a 10th the volume of water in bottled water.

I like the whole foods drop off thing though :)
