Suspension for wondering about own race?
Well, as common, security tags are inside CD jewel cases so you can not take them out of the store without purchasing them, right? Well, have you ever noticed about Latin CDs? They never have them... except for big shots, i.e. Marc Antony, Jennifer Lopez, etc.
So this customer came up to my line wanting to purchase a CD, and I was wondering, sadly not to myself, how come Latin CDs never have these security tags?
My aunt and my cousins-by-blood (4 of them) all tend to take things from stores, as they tend to live their lives that way. They are all Hispanic. So I am 50%, but I'm also Caucasian. The customer? Black. Somehow, the management and the customer thought I was making a racial comment towards Black people, and not towards my own race.
I usually put myself down a lot, talking about the good, the bad, and the ugly about me, myself, and I. That includes race.
The Asset Protection Manager is black, my ex- and current front end Assistant Managers both have Black boyfriends, and all were offended, therefore wanted to terminate me. I never had the chance to explain about what happened. I never EVER made a reference to a Black person what-so-ever. They let me go as a suspension, and I can not come back until AP, Assistant, and Store managers, and the customer all get together to deal with my fate towards the company. I'll get a call from them if I am allowed to come back, but I'll be on D-Day.

It doesn't matter. I wanted Electronics, but I get a Pharmacy position whenever everyone is out to lunch, or whenever someone from over there is on vacation and they need someone, yet Sarah (fadeaway100301) can be trained for a register. When "all register trained associates go up to the front"... I'm there at front end still? But yet, you don't want me 2 departments away from her? You gotta be out of your friggin' mind, right?

Ouch. Sounds like you might have gotten "Red Booked". I hope things work out for you.

I wish that you would post more detail, so we know exactly what went down...

Wow, yeah, race - no matter who's race it is, can be an offensive thing to bring up. It's one of those things you should probably never bring up even if you are talking about yourself.

If they tried to coach me, I'd tell them to suck a lemon and walk out the door. :/

Sad thing is, people will almost always play the race card and it's usually never for the right reason.

Or Jesse Jackson.

Or, as an even more recent example, Jeremiah Wright.

yeah i know. i think the customer might have even known he didn't say anything about her race but maybe she thought to herself that she should change it around so he looked bad.

like customers that you help out but they aren't satisfied with your help so they say you ignored them.

either that or she skipped over the important detail and thought "uh-oh... he said people! i think he said black people!"

If all you said was "I wonder why these Latin CD's don't have security tags" (I assume it was after you scanned it and it didn't make a noise telling you to demagnetize it or whatever I don't see the problem in that. I don't see how the customer could assume you were making a remark about them when they were in the line paying for it, unless there was something else said that you didn't tell us. If that's all you said I'd fight it because if you weren't actually accusing anyone of stealing than I don't know what case they have. Some customers just get angry because they like to abuse us and love to accuse WM of always trying to screw them over so they can get something for nothing (no matter what their ethnicity).
