Managers
How often does your store get a new assistant manager?  I was wondering why my store gets a new assistant manager about every other month... and one will generally quit from too much stress.  I have been at my wal-mart for about a year and a half and i have gone through 4 different assistant managers for my department alone.  Is that normal for your store or is my store so stressful that it makes them all quit?

We get a new one every couple of months.
Some, people were sad to see go. Others... not so much.
But as far as I know, it was more Wal-Mart making them move, not the managers asking for it.
(At least in one case. I don't think anyone wanted him to leave. It's been months and some of us are still in "mourning" if you will).

well at my store we got a new store, co, and 3 assistant managers in the last year. our old store manager went to a new supercenter they just built. our old co got fired for stealing, how much we're really not sure but it's in the hundred thousands two old assistants got fired for stealing, and one got demoted from assistant manager to working the meat department in another store.

maybe theres more to it than just being stressed?

We've had mostly the same assistant managers since I started (about a year and a half ago). There are a few new ones, and one quit to take care of her dying father, but they're all mostly the same.

Since I'm on overnights, I don't see all the changes. We do get a new one in rotation every six months. Usually takes about a month to break the new ones in..veg.

Same management for us.

Same store manager and same six assistants since I started over a year ago.

We go through assistant managers, co-managers, AND store managers like tissue paper. I've been working there for almost four years and have had three different store managers. The last guy cooked up bullshit reasons to fire every assistant manager except for three and both the co-managers so he could bring in his own people. But the store has become a tiny bit more organized so I'm not all upset about it.

I've been in the same department for like a year and a half also and have also had four different assistant managers. I know that they switch departments every now and again but since two of my managers quit I've only had one who was there for the full time.

We get new ones with every change too. We currently have a new one right now but most of them have been with the store for a few years.

All of ours get fired. Since I've been there we've been though 7 assistant managers and two co-managers.

Our newest assistant manager has been with us for 5 years. Our newest co has been here for 2 years. So I guess we're pretty easy on them.

Is it true they rotate Co-Managers every 2 years? We have one at my store I really like, I'd hate to see him go. :)

our co-managers tend to stay for a period of 1 week to 6 months. most of the time we don't even have one.

We have a few newer am's but only one hired off the street. The other one was transfered to our store, after the girl quit. She was the front end manager actually and I liked her alot! But she got a better paying job elsewhere. Other than that, my store manager is the same and so is most of the managers. Some were just transfered to another store.

Our newest assistant has been with us for less than 2 months. We have 3 that have been at our store between 6 months and a year, 2 that have been there between 1-2 years, and only one who has been there for more than 2 years. Our store manager has been with us since February.

Some probably transfer to stores where they really want to be. Sometimes when they get promoted or something, the policy requires them to transfer.

Our co has been with us for about 5 years, time to move on. Our manager for about 9 months, he needs to move on. Our assistant, some have been wtih us for 20 years, some 1. Most have been there over 5 years. Time for all of them to move on.

We have two new assistants in training right now. One will be over the front end, relieving our softlines assistant from having to cover it, and one will be 1st shift instock. Interestingly enough, the new instock assistant was the sporting goods department manager at the store I transferred from.

Under our last Store Mgr which everyone hated, we had assistants leaving like rats fleeing from a sinking ship (which our store pretty much was) but now that we got a new Store Mgr which actually treats people with respect (only took seven years to find one!) most of our mgmt team has been pretty consistent.
