Igoli's Glass Cannon [07 May 2008|03:08am]

atropes
This is the Ishtarri sneak and bleed that I played at the Great Lakes Qualifier tournament. It performed well enough to make it to the finals, where it was sadly locked down via tiny cap dominate bleeders and Brainwashing. There are three primary focuses of this deck, bleed tech, stealth tech, and untap tech. A good portion of the library is also devoted to blood efficiency/production since many of the minion cards cost at least 1 blood.

I know that there is an apparent imbalance in the number of actions to equip/recruit, but this is the advantage of the Ishtarri - since they have several ways to untap, one vampire can act several times each turn, allowing them to equip with a bleed/stealth mod then untap and use it immediately. This is why the deck starts so fast, and why it stays fast. Unlike most heavy bleed decks I've seen this deck stacks bleed mods that remain on the vampire, allowing big bleeds every turn.

This deck can bleed insanely quickly, and is very flexible as far as surviving unpleasant interactions with its prey. However, the deck has little to no defense. The single most important goal of the deck is forward momentum, based on the theory that if you can bleed out your prey faster than your predator can bleed you out then all you have to do is repeat that process a few times to take a table. Yes, it sounds silly, but it has accomplished this task fairly well in several games. Oddly enough the complete lack of defense has occasionally been a positive, as many sneak and bleeds choke on stealth if there is no attempt at defense. The combination of powerful offense and brittle defense is why I call it a glass cannon.
Deck list and explanations )

If you have questions or comments I would love to hear them, although I am in the process of tearing apart and rebuilding the deck with a slightly different focus.

Black Hand Wall [06 May 2008|11:45am]

maegnar
Hi, there, dear Methuselae.
I have an idea of creating a BH wall deck.
AUS is a natural requirement for intercept and I also want to use it for Psychic Assault, so crypt should be made of vampires that meet both of those requirements, or at least have AUS... as becoming BH is a bit easier then acquiring superior Auspex.
I'm not sure if Psychic Assault should be my only strike. I'm thinking about including some Magnums, or something like that... Dunno.
I don't think I'll need a star vampire for this kind of deck, but anything is possible.
A friend of mine has told me that the sole purpose of wall deck should be defending the Smiling Jack, but the idea was to use more of BH goodies, so maybe you would have some other interesting ideas to share with me...
Anyways... To sum everything up - main idea is "Black Hand Wall". Anything else will be taken into consideration.
Any ideas? :)

Dracula: A Rock Opera in NJ! [25 Apr 2008|12:03am]

truth_underskin
High Tech High School Musical Theater Department presents
DRACULA: A ROCK OPERA

We are very excited to be presenting a new musical based on the chilling Bram Stoker classic. This would be our 8th spring musical and the students are so excited to be putting it together in the last 7 months. Much rehearsal and planning has been underway with choreography, sets, costumes, lighting and good ol’ stage magic that will hopefully awe the audiences in a re-telling of the Bram Stoker classic.

This is director Alex Perez’s 9th year as director of the musical theater program.
“after 18 productions, stints Off-Broadway and overseas, you would think it would get easy. But every year is a brand new challenge with brand new students and the job only gets more exciting and there are always challenges that come our way.” “ People love to compare shows, but I see them as separate entities, a tattoo if you will, separate chapters and of course, we always choose material that is different and sets us apart from the normal high school musical choices.”

The students this year have been so focused and so commanding, that audiences truly need to see their work. This is why we are excited to add an extra weekend for the first time ever. Another first is that all the music is set to classic rock of the 70’s thru now..so it gives a little bit of something for everyone. And of course, another first is that we are doing a dramatic passionate love story. There is quite a lot of romance on stage and the students are truly working hard to make the love relationships involved captivating. Practicing kissing scenes and hunger for blood needs to be right, otherwise Dracula will not be believable. The students are willing and ready to make it happen.

DRACULA: A Rock Opera is also music directed by Rod Shepard with an all-student band that is stronger than ever. The HTHS Music Theater Dept. has been involved in the Papermill Rising Star Award Program for excellence in High School Musical Theater. In 6 years, they have been nominated 15 times and won 10 awards including Best Direction, Lead Actor and Actress, Lobby, Costumes, Hair and Makeup and Production all for different productions throughout the years. Recently they performed in Scotland over the past summer.

DRACULA: A Rock Opera
May 2,3,9,10 @ 7pm
May 3,4, 10, 11 @ 1pm

Tickets are $15
Call 201-854-2903 for more info

HTHS Black Box Theater
2000-85th ST (Tonelle Ave)

Of worthwhile mention is that the show will contain various songs by Depeche Mode, Siouxie, and Nine Inch Nails! This is no ordinary Dracula Musical! haha.

2 decks for picking apart [16 Apr 2008|01:16am]

psych0tron
First off, thanks for the replies a few weeks ago RE tournament strategy. After a few weeks of tweaking some existing decks and thought, I think I have it down to 2 of my current decks or a mythical 3rd deck that I've yet to build that's not quite so defensive. For now, though, I thought I'd put the current incarnations of the Imbued and the Ahrimanes up for critique.

I've gone to great length to find a balance with the imbued to keep them effective but strip out nearly everything in there that threatened the entire table. In fact, the only thing left in there that effects more then just predator and prey at this point is Millicent. The wall/combat still seems to work well though, and my thoughts are that they may fare better since they won't immediately scare the entire table into ganging up on me (quite as much at least..)

The Ahrimanes have been good to me so far, although the last time they saw action was probably the most annoying prey I've ever played with them. After getting 3 of my vamps up, tremere in front of me and Guruhi behind me, I dropped the fame-bomb on my prey's Smudge the Ignored and proceeded to not ignore him only to have the tremere wall o' auspex stop every single one of my rush attempts. Smudge was, in fact, ignored the entire game although his ready region was looking pretty lonely by the end :)

Championship and qualifiers [07 Apr 2008|03:52pm]

corvis_linda

People,
since this year's championship is pretty close to Lithuania - we started to think about it:)
As we understand - first you need to qualify.
But we were unable to find any requirements on qualifier tournament.
Are there any specific requirements? except 12 people minimum?
Thank you in advance

JOL 2008 Tournament Update [23 Mar 2008|10:12am]
nac2006
JOL 2008 Tournament Update

Hello All,

After a long delay, deck registration for the JOL* 2008 tournament is
now open. I apologize for my slowness.

*JOL stands for Jyhad Online, and it was created by George Finklang.
It's an incredibly fun way to play VTES asynchronously, and it's quite
robust:

http://deckserver.net/jol3/beta

If you are registered, you should now see games jt2008a, jt2008b, and
jt2008c (complete listing of registered players below.)

*****************************************************
Please register your decks by April 6th, 10:00pm PST.
*****************************************************

The tournament is 3 rounds + Final, and the 3 rounds will be played
simultaneously. You can register different decks for each round, and
if you make the finals, you'll use one of your 3 decks.

If you haven't registered your decks by April 6, I'll assume you're no
longer interested in playing in the tournament, and I'll drop you from
the event.

We *will* be using the Kuta transfer rules. See below. We will be
using the multi-judge system.

The initial 3 rounds will end on August 6th, 11:59pm PST. There will
be no extensions granted. Excessively slow play that causes other
players to have less fun, as determined by the head judge, will be
replaced by an alternate player. Players are expected to check their
games at least twice a day on weekdays, and notify other players in
advance if they will be unable to do so.

If you have questions or concerns, please reply directly to Ira.

Thanks,
Ira

KUTA TRANSFER RULES are just like the normal transfer rules, except:
1) Players get 5 transfers instead of 4.
2) It costs 1 transfer to move a minion (that has counters equal to or
greater than its capacity) from the uncontrolled region to the ready
region.
3) It costs 5 transfers plus 1 pool to move a minion from the top of
the crypt to the uncontrolled region.

Notes:
- On the first turn of the game, Player 1 gets only 1 transfer, Player
2 gets 2, etc., up to 5 transfers for Player 5.

- Rule #2 only applies to bringing minions to the ready region in the
"normal" way. Cards like Tomb of Rameses III, Gather, Chain of
Command, and Web of Knives Recruit don't cost extra transfers.

!Tremere 3B/Toolbox [19 Mar 2008|01:39pm]

maegnar
[ mood | busy ]

This is my !Tremere Bleed/Bloat/Bruise deck, which I constantly try to make it work. I did manage to win a tournament once with an earlier version of this deck, but I constantly get into situation with either a strong wall as a prey, or a hard rush as a predator, so winning is very hard.

My thoughts about this deck:
It lacks a bit of cycling, so I probably need to put some MotS or Vast Wealths in there to be able to get Heart of Nizchetus faster.
Information highway might be changed for Minion Taps(or dropped altogether for something else), and Telepathic Misdirections for Redirections/Deflections.
And I think about putting some Wind Dances into combat, when I get them. Target Vitals would be great, but they cost too damn much.
Now I'd like to see your thoughts and opinions.

Tournament strategy question [18 Mar 2008|01:20pm]

psych0tron
With a tournament coming up locally and it being my first v:tes tournament, I'm going through the painful process of deciding what deck to play, what style of decks to expect from opponents, and weither to play defensively or aggressively. Since I tend to lean a bit more towards wall decks and/or rush decks in normal play, it's what I'm leaning towards for this since it's what I know how to play and I have an ahrimanes fame-rush deck, an imbued wall deck, an assamite wall/rush deck, a salubri wall deck, and a ravnos no-secrets deck already built and with minor tweaks could comfortably play any of them. Given what I've read about several tournament-winning decks, I know to expect lots of political decks, lots of sneak-n-bleeds, and lots of deflecting. Thing is that seems to have been common knowledge for a while now and I would think that in more recent tournaments people would be expecting that and build around it, so my questions would be:

1) Imbued decks. How common are they in more recent tournaments, and how do you deal with a gehenna/event-focussed imbued deck aside from playing an imbued deck yourself? Sure there's cards like black hand ritual that will blow up gehenna cards on the table, but I've yet to see a single deck listing anywhere that uses them.

2) Combat-heavy decks. Most of the political and sneak-n-bleed decks I've seen and have played against are typically loaded with majesty or something along those lines to bail out of combat, but with most good rush decks all it takes is catching them with their pants down once and getting a round of combat in that they can't bow out of to torp, burn, or otherwise maim the other person. How do these combat decks typically fair in more recent tournament play, given the additions the sword of caine and lords of the night expansions gave to combat-focussed black hand and assamite decks?

3) Defensive vs. Offensive. Overall, most tournament-winners I've seen are almost 100% offensive, and use almost nothing except bloat or deflections for defense. Is this still a trend in more current tournaments, and is it just that nobody plays solid defensive/wall decks anymore or that the ones that get played get knocked out early?

Thanks!

Jyhad Card List [28 Feb 2008|08:00pm]

thor_leifson
Hey everyone. I want to thank you all for the great info you gave me a couple of days ago. Thanks to you, I've been able to organize, sort, catalog, and database all the Jyhad cards I owned.

I'm going to post the full list here (very spammy) beyond a cut. I would very much appreciate an evaluation from the gang. If anyone really wants 'em, they're all neatly stored in a card binder in 9-pocket sleeves at the moment. It's a big heavy book, but hey, it's spiffy looking. :) I'll ship wherever since I was planning on doing that on eBay or wherever anyway. :)

I'll leave it up here for a couple of days before I toss it over to eBay.

P.S. In addition, I also still have 9 factory sealed Jyhad boosters.

Very spammy list beyond the cut... )

Thank you all again so very very much!

Price Lists? [26 Feb 2008|10:41am]

thor_leifson
Hey everyone. I recently unearthed my old collection of thousands of Jyhad cards. I was going to put them up on eBay as singles for the most part but for the life of me, I can't even find a card rarity list, much less a price list. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get either/both the rarity lists and fair current prices for these older cards?

Also, if you have a better suggestion for auctioning CCGs than eBay, I'd love to hear it. :)

P.S. I unearthed a ton of other card games too. L5R, Illuminati, On the Edge, and more. If you have any pointers towards price lists for those games, I'd appreciate them as well. :) Thanks!
