    Can anyone donate?

    Hi, everyone :3
I need all of your help to study.
I need some money to continue my study. I'll be a 2nd year high school this coming school year and the money you'll be donating will be used to buy school materials for my school.

    Please help...

I accept paypal(angel.teukie@yahoo.com). Any amount will help, even $.50.
A dollar is a big deal to us because from it we can already buy 2 notebooks. So please, help us.

    Thanks.

    Help Needed
"Community Partnership's next development will be six units of affordable housing for homeless, single parent families that are coming out of SafePlace. The construction has begun, but the furniture for the units has not been purchased. The Ronald McDonald House is moving locations and is generously donating their old furniture to us. The catch is that we need to pick it up and get it over to our storage unit! For this we need your muscles and hopefully pickup trucks. We will provide lunch if you provide strength!

We are scheduled to move the furniture out of the Ronald McDonald House on
    January 18th (Friday) at 10am until 3pm.
If you are interested in volunteering for this project, please contact me and I will provide further details. If we get enough muscles and trucks, I am guessing that it will not take the full 5 hours to move the furniture over to our storage space. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

As always, thank you for your commitment and interest in helping Community Partnership!"

Volunteer Call: Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival
    Cross-posted to [info]austincommunity

    Calling All Volunteers!

We need some volunteers who aren't afraid of the heat to help out at the The Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival on Sunday, August 26th.

The festival will take place on Sunday, August 26, from 11:00am-5:00pm, at Waterloo Park, and donations of 3 non-perishable food items per person will go to benefit the Capital Area Food Bank.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items with them, but it is not a requirement to volunteering.

We need the most help with set-up, tasting tents and load-out. Volunteers in the tasting tents will be working throughout the afternoon supplying the tasting samples for the public.

We also need a few volunteers during the day to control access at the vendor load-in gate, to help in our VIP area, and to supervise the voting booth where the public can vote for their favorite bottled sauces.

Volunteers will receive 2 drink tickets, redeemable for water or beer (21+ with valid ID, of course), and a Hot Sauce Fest t-shirt.

    October 13-15th 48-Hour Code-A-Thon!
Hey programmers and designers are you not satisfied with politics as usual?
Come help us create something better!
Create Open Source Advocacy tools for Non-Profits!

Come gather with us for a weekend of coding and fun! Stop by for a few hours or play with us all weekend long. We'll have activities and surprises every few hours to keep everyone in motion.

The goal here is to quickly implement some new features in Drupal (www.drupal.org) These modules will be of use to many nonprofit organizations, and in particular will help kick start the League of Technical Voters web interface. The League of Technical Voters is an organization based on the idea that geeks, who are not often politically active, can be a powerful force for change for the better. These tools will be used to help bring politicians, geeks, and the media together in an effective manner.

We'll start things off on Friday from 7-10pm with some short classes to introduce PHP-based Drupal and its structure. Then teams will select modules and features and run off to design and build them. We need a wide range of programming abilities, as some modules only need to be incorporated into
the website structure, some need to be fixed, while others need to be written from scratch. This is free form built on the concepts from barcamp.org

We will also need designers for the website itself. Some have already met to discuss preliminary design issues, and then finalizing some design issues on Friday the 13th from 6-10pm. Some designers will also hang around on Saturday the 14th to help out the programmers with accessibility issues! (one of our goals is to make the pre-existing code base handicapped accessible.)

There will be plenty food, drink and entertainment all day and through the night.

This is a BYOlaptop event! We will have tools and environment CDs ready for Mac, PC and Linux.

Join us, and help change the world!

    When: Oct 13 @ 7:00 PM - Oct 15 @ 7:00 PM

    People4People needs Volunteers
People4People (P4) is an organization of dedicated volunteers working to raise money and community awareness for People's Community Clinic (PCC) . PCC is a non-profit clinic providing quality, affordable health care for under- and uninsured adults and children in the Austin area
for over 30 years . For more information, visit the People's Community Clinic Web site at www.pcclinic.org .

P4P's fundraising activities revolve around our annual People4People Games where local companies and individuals sponsor teams to compete against each other in fun field events. We need volunteers to help at this year's games on Sunday, 22 October 2006 at the Dell Jewish Community Center in Northwest Austin. Volunteers attend a short orientation session aweek or 2weeks before the event, commit to a 2-6 hour shift the day of the event, and receive some perks for volunteering.

If you or your group are interested in volunteering, please let me know and in the next couple of weeks I'll email you the volunteer information, which includes orientation options and more information on the event.

    Calling all college students!
Did you know that 89 million Americans volunteer?

Better yet, did you know that 46% of 18-24 year olds volunteer 3 or 4 hours a week?

It's true! This shows a dedication to volunteerism and political action beyond what students are generally known for.

This age group is the incoming generation of voters, policy makers and future leaders of America, and absolutely vital to the continuing success of volunteer service in their communities.

S.A.V.E. (Support American Volunteer Efforts) currently has a bill before Congress that if passed would grant up to $2,000 in a tax rebate to people who volunteer for nonprofit organizations.

The only way to pass this bill is to let Congress know that Americans support it!

Go to the S.A.V.E. website and vote for the S.A.V.E. bill! You could win a case of Annie's Macaroni and Cheese and also help make the S.A.V.E. bill a reality.

Andrew Martin, founding chairman and former president and CEO of Annies Macaroni and Cheese, is the author of the S.A.V.E. bill. This is his way of thanking you for supporting S.A.V.E!

    S.A.V.E
S.A.V.E (Support American Volunteer Efforts) is a nonprofit organization campaigning to pass bill HR4387, which is currently under review in the Ways & Means Committee of Congress.

If the bill were to be passed it would offer up to $2,000 per year in a tax rebate to every volunteer.

Volunteers are two a half times more likely to donate back to non-profits where they volunteer, and their communities. Rather than giving tax breaks to the wealthiest 1% of society this would help to put money back where it is sorely needed.

SAVE is a grass-roots organization. Our office has a staff of three full time employees and several volunteers. We're in the midst of a nation wide press release, selling the idea of SAVE to the media, non-profit and volunteer agencies around the country.

The only way to pass this bill is to let congress know that Americans support it.

Please check out our website: SAVE - Support American Volunteer Efforts

    Location: Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve

    (512) 327-7622
    www.wildbasin.org

The second Saturday of every month is Trail Maintenance at Wild Basin Preserve. We start promptly at 9am with a brief orientation and safety talk, then we break up into teams and go out to work on the trails.

    Activities include:

    · Repair and maintain the trail system
    · Remove exotic and invasive plant species
    · Prune vegetation alongside the trails
    · Collect trash
    · Clean main building
    · Various special projects.

Generally, we work to make Wild Basin’s trail system safe and useful for everyone to enjoy.

    Safety and Other Considerations:

Participants should be at least 16 and able to hike over rugged terrain. Participants MUST wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, preferably hiking boots. They should wear clothing appropriate for outdoor work and weather conditions. Long sleeved shirts, hats, and sunscreen may be desired for sun protection.
Participants should bring their own water bottles and packs to carry bottles and other personal gear as they walk. Feel free to bring work gloves, although Wild Basin will provide any and all tools as needed for the workday. Activity will occur rain or shine.
Those allergic to stinging insects or poison ivy should be prepared as necessary. Nearest medical facility is approximately 30 minutes away. Participants will be made aware of possible encounters with snakes, spiders, scorpions and other wildlife.

Note: Trail Maintenance in Dec.. will be on the 10th.

Pet Data Finder for Hurricane Katrina
We are putting together a database that will link up lost pets and their owners following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The database will be designed along the lines of the current Katrina PeopleFinder Project. We are aware of similar sites however they are not adequately serving the needs of the people. Details of that project can be found here: http://katrinahelp.info/wiki/index.php/Katrina_PeopleFinder_Project
We will need tech people and data entry people, all of whom will be volunteers. We won't have to start from scratch because the PeopleFinder will help us do this. One of the more challenging aspects is how we can adequately describe the pets. Can you help?

Send email to canitnf@yahoo.com if you are interested - Thanks!

In case you were interested in volunteering at this years Austin Film Festival
I emailed them and this is what they replied with:

Hi Jenny! Thanks for your email and your interest in volunteering for the
2005 Austin Film Festival! The best way to get started and get involved is
to mark your calendar clear for tomorrow night, Monday, September 19, 2005
    from 7 to 9 pm.

Tomorrow, we will be having our Volunteer Party at Lucky Lounge (located @
209 A W 5th St.) and if you can make it, you'll get the chance to hear
each department head give a brief overview of their department and their
volunteer needs for the festival. At the party, you'll also have the
chance to fill out a volunteer contact info sheet and mix and mingle with
other volunteers and some of the AFF staff.

I hope to see you there! Spread the word! Bring a friend or two! The more
the merrier, and if you can't attend the party, just email me back and
I'll get you set up and ready to volunteer just the same.

I look forward to meeting you tomorrow and having you on board Jenny!
Thanks a million for your interest in the 2005 Austin Film Festival!

Call the whitehouse and demand action on the animal rescue in Louisiana. Efforts are being hampered and time is quickly running out.

    See post here: http://www.nola.com/forums/animals/index.ssf?artid=21021

    White House switchboard: 202-456-1414

Here is a sample of what you can ask for (from nola.com)

It is imperative that animal rescue groups be given FULL ACCESS to ALL areas and that:-police shooting of and running over animals in violation of animal cruelty laws like that seen on MSNBC by a Sgt Minton of St Bernard Parish STOP IMMEDIATELY!-that military coordinate with animal rescue groups to get people and their pets out together.-that animal rescue groups be supplied with the same level of access and support that military and police are getting.-that animal rescue folks not fear being stopped at gunpoint by military and police from rescuing animals near death, especially in high water areas.-that animal rescue groups doing a SERVICE to the community receive more help and support from the Governor whose state they are serving at THEIR COSTS (both financial and physical costs).

    ADMIN Help needed for CAFB
Due to the overwhelming needs and responses at the Capital Area Food Bank, extra help is needed to check voice mails, make copies, light office work. Experience with Word would be beneficial. Anytime you can assist between 9 and 5 this week would be appreciated. Please respond here with your availability and I'll get back to you. Even if it is just 4 hours, it would help!!

Please do not call the CAFB directly, because you won't be able to get through. I will provide volunteers with contact information upon confirmation.

Thanks again to everyone for their dedication to assisting in this time of need.
