Cassandra vid, REMASTERED  -- 8:35pm
hellpenguin

(x-posted at my LJ and my DW)

So I was extremely hassled when I first made this vid- through poor planning, I got the 13th episode of Merlin Season 1 on the day the vid was due. So I threw the thing together and sent it in.

Unfortunately, I made 2 errors: 1) I read the wrong guidelines and didn't put my name and vid title in the vid (I think I read the guidelines for the challenge vids) and 2) I didn't doublecheck and triplecheck my vid before sending it so it was filled with technical blips (such as: frame flickers, mismatched aspect ratio, and awkward pacing). So it didn't go over so well at Vividcon.

So with the aspect-ratio fixing help from [info]thingswithwings at the con, and a lot of time when I got back home, I have remastered my vid (I was told by someone to call it Remastering) into a streamlined version of how I wish it had shown at VVC.

I give you:

Title: Cassandra (Remastered)
Song, artist: "Dream Awake" The Frames
Warnings: Spoilers through season 1 of merlin
Summary: You will dream the future, and no one will listen. You will be forced to watch as they take up the sword, and it will break your heart when they fall by it.

Thanks from the Albrechts for donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association  -- 5:03pm
elynross

I received the message below from Abby's parents, and they asked me to share it.

~~~
We received a card from the Muscular Dystrophy Association that you had made a gift in Abby's name to support research into spinal muscular atrophy. We are touched and grateful you are helping to make the world where someday no one will have to struggle with the physical limitations that Abby did.
We believe that Abby's vid "Thank you for the music" was her homage to the world of Vidding and fandom where she found friends, joy, and a kind of music that was a big part of the song of her life. For all that each of you did to be a part of and enrich her life, Mike and I would like to... Thank YOU for the music...
Please share this with the members of Vividcon.
Love,
Donna & Mike Albrecht
Panel: Editing with FX  -- 8:39pm
jescaflowne
During my panel on editing with FX I showed a video that compared the rough cut of the video (edited in Premiere) with the final FX version edited in AE. Below is a link to that video.
Can Delight Comparison
A few people seemed interested in the power point I was using. It isn't deeply informative, more of a guideline for my own speaking points. But if you're interested you can download it here:
Editing with Effects Power Point
Thanks to those who attended. I'm sorry I wasn't able to get through all the examples I was hoping to show. Hopefully some people found it useful :)
Fannish vidding community  -- 10:34am
redina
I know there's a rule #34 about 'if it exists, there's [online] porn about it, no exceptions'.
I've seen this repeatedly brought up about an online community for vidders to socialize and LJ was one of the mediums. Maybe it's because a, AFAIK, 'little known fan' created the community but [info]fanvidders exists and per its profile: If it deals with Fan vids, pretty much anything goes! And it was created April 2007.
If we're talking about fan vidders' personal lives and socializing within that context, you can always do:
During VVC 2009, not only was I working on setting up draft notes for a Transformers vid, but I also had an idea for a Smallville vid to Beyonce's Halo... then I did a search on YouTube and it's been done, several times over! Then I thought: AC/DC Shook Me All Night Long to... Rainbow Brite. I dared YouTube to spit that baby out and I didn't find it... but the fact I thought of it and was contemplating it for a vid, which would be a dirty bad wrong, does prove that, if you've thought of it, an idea is probably already out there or will eventually be out there.
My fifth VVC experience  -- 4:32pm
redina
Adobe book ) I'll add this was the most socially enjoyable VividCon for me, and I've attended five VVCs. {g} I consider myself mostly an introvert, thus, it didn't bother me much that my first couple VVCs (2002 + 2006) had very minimal social experiences. I got to listen to informative panels and watch amazing vids, plus, the location of Chicago afforded many historic sites on an accessible public transit system with a reasonably working online trip planner... and everything was fairly affordable. If any of y'all live or have visited Florida, our public transit system is seriously lacking. Politely *asking* for help usually does work in Chicago. I've had complete strangers help me out of lost situations.
As a newbie in 2002, I was given the heads-up about 'cliques' from con-experienced vidders, even though that was the first VVC. Cliques exist everywhere in life, and it's not the concom or any other attendee's fault I wasn't very social. For the past 2-3 years, it was a bit of a joke that the 'next year' would be the one where I'd say more than half a dozen words to [info]sockkpuppett, and it's not because I'm 'intimidated' by her--she's very friendly--but it's just how things ended up. This past VVC I finally got more than half a dozen words... and it only took years later. {chuckle}
I don't know what expectations each person has going in, but ultimately, I did end up chatting with more new folk than folk I saw for years. [info]svmadelyn was very nice to organize a small group to tour Chicago on Thursday and I felt it acted as an 'icebreaker' for some new attendees, and [info]talitha78 generously still took a group of us for a 'Field trip', even though she wasn't feeling well.
For me, each year I've attended VVC has gotten better as I've grown accustomed to folk, and I know if a person wants to chat with me, I'm not going to give them the 'cold shoulder' but I'm just not a naturally chatty person. Got to 'jump start' me a bit and I'll talk. Porn usually works for me, especially Erica Durance. ;-D Seriously, vidding topics and/or asking about fannish interests. Or if you need help or something else, just ask. Personally, I think the VVC staff has done a very good job in managing this convention. This year was the first time I volunteered, and even when I had a complete fail moment and I was internally cussing myself out for my failure, as busy as [info]elynross was, she took an extra moment to say 'it's okay' and basically, unlike Odyssey 5, the Earth won't explode.
