Read the following two stories, and look at the language used in both and tell me it's not a racist issue. The first story deals with the subject of illegal Irish in the U.S. It talks about how the U.S. wants to make sure it doesn't " penalise the so-called "undocumented Irish"" and how "they want to regulate so that people aren't taken advantage of". When it's Irishman, they're "so-called undocumented", but when it's a Mexican, they're "illegal aliens" - no "so-called" or "alleged" added to that. The second story deals with the immigration debate and cracking down on jobs that usually tend to hire illegal Hispanics. It talks about "tougher border controls" and how opponents did not want to pass a bill that amounted to "amnesty for law breakers". When dealing directly with the business that tend to hire illegal Hispanics, we're talking about "law breakers" - there's no "so-called" or "alleged" in front of that. Not that I'm saying that the plight of the illegal Irish isn't one that should be fought for as is the plight of all illegal immigrants, but let's just take a look at the way things are handled when it comes to these two distinct ethnic groups: ( Articles Below Cut )On a side note, due to this recent crackdown, my mom just told me that my father's job just lost all of its workers aside from him, my uncle and my brother, since they were the only citizens working as laborers. If the contractor doesn't find guys to replace them soon, he may lose the bid and my dad, brother and uncle would subsequently lose their jobs. Seeing as how the the last three days in Dallas, TX have hit between 102-104 degrees, I'm willing to bet everything that there aren't many legal workers that are willing to take the places of all the guys that were fired because of their illegal status.
