actually, their eyes are merely beads, i assume. they're stuffed out and exhibited in some glass case for interested martians to have a good fascinated look at them.

A color-blind plates strike back, again :) They are VERY sensitive to blue, so all the blue eyes are rendered very very light. And the skin should be much darker in this case due to its reddish colour - the people is either well-powdered with blue or violet face powder, or massively retouched. I would say, both things likely occurred :)

can you hold a smile in place for 2+ minutes? ;)
reason everyone looks stiff and unhappy is that those photos to over 2 minutes to shoot so that the exposure was long enough.

many pictures, people are actually strapped to rods to keep them from leaning or moving much to avoid blurring
