If you ever wondered what an old metal chastity belt looked like -

As you see on the last photo, it is dated 1758.

I guess you could do that with this one. I've seen pictures of others that went all the way to the back and had a little serated edged hole to poop through.

Kinda gross, but whenever I see chastity belts, I always wonder at how dirty they must have become, especially considering the general hygiene at the time. Yeah, you could rinse a bit, but still. Ick.

that is a fake. chastity belts were a victorian invention, and did not actually exist during the medieval period.

Many kinds of belts - there is evidence that they were in use from the year of 1400 and onwards

Sure, no problem. You were "almost" right since the belt seems to stem from 1758. (see new pic below the old one)

Four photos of the same device. A fake? I don't think so, though I wish - it makes me shudder, but it is still a peculiar part of history. -_-

you don't think it could 've been moved aside, since there isn't any connecting strip to the back of the belt?

I'm no expert, but I *would* think the curve of the metal plate would make that very painful, especially if the belt was fitted very tightly. Just my two cents. (*x*)

What little (thankfully little) I've heard/read on them would suggest you're correct. They were fitted tightly enough that genital mutilation wasn't uncommon nor was pinched nerves or tetanus. (I assume from metal cutting into skin and lack of hygenic cleaning.)

And that fettish link about modern day belts? I've tried to pull my live-and-let-live objective "well, not for me, but I guess if other people want to do it..." self out on this one, but she remains exconced in the corner shouting, "That's just freaking weird, no way, no how, forget it."

I once saw something similar in a castle in Germany. I've no idea if it was more than ten years old in reality but the mental image has certainly stuck with me! *shudders*

The older ones? yep. Tetanus was supposedly a problem, as were infections. Heinous.

And apparently the "modern" models solve the problem by using stainless steel and recommending "several' showers a day, but an odor issue remains. I ventured to read the link Nocturne supplied. Seems that the male version has a particularly bad "urine entrapment" issue and defecation is also cumbersome unless one also likes smelling like an outhouse.

I'm not thoroughly grossed out.

I skipped through most of it, too gross for me, too. But I had to look for evidence to back up my post, since someone questioned it(I changed the header from "medieval" to "old metal" to be on the safe side.) Talk about Too Much Information, that particular site - and did you see the number of visitors on that counter, millions!! -_-

I hardly believe photography was invented at the time period in guestion, 1758 +/-. And I seriously doubt women of the time would have allowed themselves have their picture be taken if the photographic technique had been invented then.
