Perhaps humans should stop throwing poison at each other, so they don’t have to wear this ugly (and mostly useless) contraption on their faces. How’s that for a brainstorm idea?

Well, the only person to use gas as a weapon of war in close to the last hundred years is Saddam Hussein... and he got the opportunity to dance the hemp fandango for his efforts.

Personally, I think there are more pressing issues to worry about, though I will admit I liked the one with the girl wearing her mask to chop onions :)

and of course he was our friend at the time, do not forget it:
"... and that the United States, fully aware it was Iraq, accused Iran, Iraq's enemy in a fierce war, of being partly responsible for the attack.
The State Department instructed its diplomats to say that Iran was partly to blame".

True. That has nothing to do with the subject, but it is true, none the less.

"How delightfully american."

Which part - the part where I think it's a good thing that only one person has used poisonous gas since WWI, the part where I think it's a good thing that that person paid for his crime, or the part where I think it's cute to use the gas mask to avoid crying while chopping onions?

you're being shy
why are you omitting part - how good it was of americans to supply those chemicals to the person who paid for his their crimes?

Actually, although private companies in the US (which, contrary to popular belief, do things for their own reasons and not to advance foreign policy) sold him a tiny amount of the chemicals he used, the actual major suppliers were, in order: Singapore, the Netherlands, Egypt, India and West Germany. I understand that it feels good to automatically assume the United States did any evil act you run across, but you should really check your sources occasionally.

"Shaking Hands with Saddam Hussein," Iraqi President Saddam Hussein greets Donald Rumsfeld, then special envoy of President Ronald Reagan, in Baghdad on December 20, 1983.

and by the way, only tiny amount was needed to gas those poor people. of course we'll never know if it was from Singapore's stash or American. they sold it to him and shook on it. case closed.

i think you're beyond checking facts.
check your soul instead.

Regardless of who supplied him, no one was twisting his arm or holding his kids hostage saying "you have to gas them! Gas them all now!!" The idiot did it of his own free will. You can try and point the finger other places but only one person gave the order, and uncoerced.

"How about the part where you think that only one person/nation has used gas as a weapon of war since WWI?"

To my knowledge, that's true - which doesn't mean that it is true. Lord knows there's many things I'm unaware of. So who else has used gas as a weapon of war?
