This is a moderated community. If try to join and are declined even though you are of age, it is because you did not supply a birthdate; your options of how you can supply it are detailed below.

You MUST be 18 or older and have your date of birth on your profile. Your privacy settings may not allow me to see your birthdate. If you're not sure, log out and and check whether you can see your birthdate on your profile. If you can't, Go to the Edit Info page, and scroll down to "Privacy Options". Make sure that the box labeled "Show location & birthday?" is checked and save by clicking on the "Save Changes" button at the very bottom of the page.

If you do not wish to put your date of birth on your profile, please follow these instructions:

- Join the community. You must join the community in order for your request to be approved.

- Mail the following to [info]bohemea at tifmod@shaw.ca with the subject "vintage_sex request for (username)" when you join the community:

"My legal date of birth is (yyyy-mm-dd) and I am of legal age to view adult material in my jurisdiction. I declare (or certify, verify, or state) under penalty of perjury under the laws of the United States of America that the foregoing is true and correct. Executed on (date). (Signature)"

Please post images that appear to be pre-1950. [info]retro__sex is where you should go to post and view post-1950 photographs and pinups. Vintage sex style photographs of yourself, your friends, or models are beautiful, but they don't belong here, post them in [info]my_vintage_self! For icons, there is [info]vintagesexicons. For vintage photos that aren't erotic or risque, try [info]vintagephoto. Those are all good communties. Go join 'em.

Use common sense when posting. If the subject is taboo or likely to upset some people, rule in the favor of least confrontation. You will get flamed, I cannot stop that. This community is meant to be a place to share vintage photos and discuss sex in history. Discussions can be heated, and there's nothing wrong with that. Please don't do anything stupid. I think we'd all agree that consensual sex is best, and if you don't agree, you should keep it to yourself, if you're not sure about the subject matter of a photo you want to post, don't post it. No rape photos, due to popular complaint, and also no beastiality, on a whole, no photos of illegal acts. Photos of children or people who appear to be underaged engaged in any sort of explicit act are strictly forbidden by both the community as well as livejournal. Obviously staged images are usually fine. Bettie Page bondage is just that, we all know that it's staged, if it's that obvious, you're probably safe posting it. Above all, use common sense. If you haven't got common sense, go somewhere else.

All posts are automatically friends-only when you post. Please do not go back and make them public, or they will be deleted.

If you are posting explicit photos of sex acts, use the cut <lj-cut text="brief description of photo here">. It is fine to post one softcore photo of reasonable size without a cut. Nudity, even full frontal nudity, is considered softcore and can be posted without a cut.

If you're posting many pictures in a day, please put all but the first behind an lj-cut, because a lot of picture posts make it hard for dial-up users to view their friends page. Please make sure the pictures you post before cuts are no larger than 500 pixels wide. Otherwise, if you're posting a very large photo, use the cut out of courtesy for people on dial-up & to not upset the margains on members' friends lists. If you have a series of pictures, put all but the first behind a cut.

You can also use the thumbnail option to display your photos. If you thumbnail your pictures, remember to still post explicit photos behind a cut, and to not post more than 3 thumbnailed photos before a cut. The following services automatically create thumbnails for journal posts:

You can also use http://pics.livejournal.com if you have a paid account. When you post the picture, make sure you choose Medium or Thumbnail for picture size. Large is too big.

People who are afraid of what may appear on their friends list because they are at work or because their children may see something over their shoulder can either create an adult filter to use when they're alone, or take this community off of their friends list, remain a member, and visit it when it's safe, from the link on their userinfo page. There is also an image placeholder option that might be of interest to some users.

To create an adult filter:
Go to your Edit Groups page and follow the instructions provided.

To utilize the image placeholder option:
Go to your Manage Settings page. Under the viewing options section there's an option titled 'image placeholders'. You can choose to have a link inserted in place of the image for all images, or large images.

This is an adult community, and it is now up to each member to censor their own friends list instead of every other member of the community having to do it for them. As ever, illegal acts being posted is NOT ALLOWED (this does not include outdated laws about oral sex or sodomy! Those things just go behind cuts! I mean rape, pedophilia, beastiality, THAT sort of thing), but nudes and adults having consensual sex are allowed. Flaming over the format of a post will no longer be tolerated.

It is also now up to each member to handle the comments in their own thread. Comments used to be surveyed by a mod, but it became too much of a hassle so as of now the rules are that each member is responsible for moderating his/her comments. You may argue, debate, or simply delete comments that are disagreeable, though I can assure future posters that, for the most part, comments are very positive. If a member becomes abusive in a thread and you feel it's beyond your control to deal with the person, by all means, contact a mod. It seems easier that way instead of the mod always having to intervene.

Most posts are moderated. A select few members are on unmoderated status because they have posted regularly and always follow the rules when they do so. People who don't post regularly are moderated. If a post is approved, that means there's no debate as to whether it's allowed in the community. You are not allowed to flame a member for the content or layout of their post if you see it on the community because if you're seeing it, that means the mod saw it first and approved it. We're done now with flaming the mod as well. This is a peaceful, fun community and it is the moderators' desire to keep it that way.
