So...the idea for this community is simple. Whenever anyone new comes into a fandom, they want to know what the best stories in that fandom are. And there are SO many, yet as a whole, the same fics get rec'd again and again.
This community is for those fics...the best ones of all time, in any fandom, from any year. Hence the name Vintage Awards - they're not specific to one particular year, unlike many awards are.
Since some fandoms are larger than others we're going with a different type of voting system. All members will sign up for the fandoms they're interested in. You can sign up for as many as you like.
The reason for this is that not all fandoms have the same number of followers. For example, the Supernatural fandom is very large right now, but Star Trek, while still a wonderful fandom, isn't that large, comparatively.
Any member can nominate a story. That story will then go up for voting, if and when that story's fandom has at least 40 members signed up. If the story gets at least 40% of their fandom's votes, it will be given a Vintage Award. (Fandoms must have 30 members minimum so we don't have 10 members in a fandom, and 1 member gets 3 of their friends to vote to make 40%).
There will be categories, you can nominate your favorite fic, and the nominated fics will be up for a vote. If a fic gets at least 40% of it's fandom's votes, it will be listed on our Master list and receive a banner.
Again, these fics are not categorized by the year they were written. Some of the fics nominated here may be 10 years old; some may have been written last month.
Fics will be voted on using polls, and each member can only vote once.
Any member can nominate his/her favorite fic and it will stay up on the site for voting indefinitely. As soon as it reaches its goal, the author will receive a banner and have their story listed on the Master List site, where anyone can go to find the best fics of any particular fandom. I don't want any award to be TOO easy to get, because then it won't mean as much.
Polls and comments will be locked always, because I don't want anyone (especially the authors) seeing that their story isn't getting many votes or someone is being snarky about it or anything that would cause hurt feelings. So, please don't ask...No, I won't tell you the poll results other than "OMGYAY, your story was voted one of the most popular in the fandom!" and leave it at that.
Again...When a story gets the required number of votes, they will be listed on the master list and given a banner to display with their story or on their info page.
The main rule of this community is THERE WILL BE NO WANK. No matter what. I have no patience for it.
This community will be the place newbies to any fandom can look around in to find that fandom's "Must Read Stories," or folks who have been in a fandom for years to revisit old favorites - or maybe find new ones.
You must be a member to nominate or vote.
Due to the nature of some of the stories within, you must be at least 18 years of age to be accepted. Just click the "JOIN" button at the top of the page.
Now...here's how it all works:
Step 1. Join the community.
Step 2. Wait to be accepted.
Step 3. Once you're accepted, go here to sign up for your fandoms. You can always come back and sign up for a fandom or to new/other fandoms you didn't sign up for when you first joined.
Step 4. Nominate your favorite story in the fandom(s) you signed up for if you like. Please pick stories you think are exceptional, amazing, the best of the best. Please don't nominate a story because it's just 'good' or a friend wrote it, or it had one good scene. Remember, we want new fandom readers to be able to read extraordinary stories, not just good (or even very good) ones. When the story or stories that are nominated are verified, they will be put in a que, and put up for vote on a first come, first serve basis.
Step 5. Watch this community for monthly voting. Stories will be put up for votes on a first come, first serve basis. If possible, please try to vote the first month a story is up, but if you don't have the time, or can't for any other reason, you can always come back later and look at and vote in the past, still active polls.
Step 6. Winning stories will be announced as they win. To be notified when the Master List is updated, go here and track the post (the thumbtack at the top of the page). When anything new happens in the community or stories are added to the Master List, you'll be notified.
This community is open to absolutely all fandoms. Sign up for whatever and however many fandoms you are involved in. Pimp our comm to your friends so your fandom's stories can get noticed.

This community will be for slash, gen and het. Some months may involve nothing but slash stories being voted on, some only gen, or some a mixture of the 3. It depends on how many stories we have. I don't ever want someone to see the month's voting and be overwhelmed with a gazillion stories to read.
The secret of making this comm work, I think, will be pimping it. Therefore, if you want to help out, please post the information below to your LJ or info page or wherever. And most of all, encourage people to come vote!!! Pimp the comm, pimp certain stories, I don't care.

To try and keep this comm wank-free, I'm going to set it so members can only vote or comment; posting allowed by the mods only. I've been around long enough to know that eventually someone will say something about someone else's story and things will go boom.

Q. How long can a story be up for the voting process?
A. Indefinitely. Or until it gets the required number of votes and moves on to the Master List.
Q. How do I nominate a story?
A. See above.
Q. I nominated a story, but haven't seen it up for voting What happened?
A. Several things might have happened - the fandom your story is in doesn't have enough members yet. If that's the case, then as soon as it has enough, the story you nomintated will be up. You can pimp this comm to get more members in quickly. Another reason could be that there are alot of nominations and stories will be posted for nomination in order they were received and we've just not gotten around to it yet. But we will I promise. Also, the mods could just be waiting to hear back from the story's author for permission to post a link to their story.
Q. How often will stories be up for a vote?
A. At least 2-4 stories a month, perhaps more if there are drabbles. I don't want to flood any of our members with a bazillion stories at once. If I do post too fast for you to read though, please let me know, or just save the story to read later when you have a chance. Once nominated, you can always vote on the story, as it will be up in the Past Polls, which will always be active. So, if you don't get a chance to read April's nominations, don't worry - you can read them in November and vote if you like. And if you absolutely love the story, PLEASE do vote. Your vote might be the very one to push the story to it's win. :)
Q. How will winning stories be listed?
A. By fandom, then by tags. Tags will be detailed, such as "angst," "fluff," "sick!Jared," "hurt!Legolas," etc.
