Early rap/hip-hop/roller-disco flyers, NYC, 1979-1983
An interesting subject, as advertisements go. Similar to rock band flyers, these came from the hands of people without any formal training in advertising and design. A little rough around the edges, but some interesting style elements, type, and copy.

Note the train/bus route instructions in some of them. :)

My favorite is the one printed on a piece of IBM flowcharting paper, and showing off the walk-thru metal detector. :)

I don't know what an "lj-cut" is.. (seriously). How do I use it?

An Lj cut hides all or a portion of your post so it doesn't take up so much space on people's friends pages. It's a good idea to use on any multiple image post.

You can find the directions in the LiveJournal FAQ.

agreed. I usually don't care and just scroll, but in this case I will have to ask "pretty pretty please!"

I tell you what, Taft High School had it goin' on! I would have loved to have been at any ONE of these shows. But the one at the Savoy Manor would have been fantastic!

I keep going back to the first one, reading 25 gals free!, and thinking "Sure, it'd be fun for a few days, but I'd have to keep them fed, and amused, and get a hell of a lot of bunk beds for the spare room.." :)

There's sort of a shortcut language to these flyers -- like:

T 31 22 B 9 16 22 6

(If you're going by train, take the 31 train and transfer to the 22. Take the 9 bus, and transket from 9 to 16, then 16 to 22, then 22 to 6.)

$6B410

(costs $6 to get in before 10:00 PM)

Funny stuff. :)

"...take the 31 train and transfer to the 22. Take the 9 bus, and transket from 9 to 16, then 16 to 22, then 22 to 6."

Wow. That's really wanting to go to the disco :)
