I have to wonder about the person who invented the slogan. How desperate do you have to be to present "The cereal millions eat because they like it" as the best you can do?
Also, is Dumb Dora a popular character in the country this comes from, or was she invented for advertising purposes only? And which is sadder?

Dumb Dora was a well-known newspaper strip, predating the advertisements.

When I was a kid, Ralston was a hot cereal. Now I'm not sure if Ralston is doing anything -- last time I heard the name at all, it was part of "Ralston-Purina," and they just made Dog Chow and other animal "chow" kibbles. I haven't checked lately to see if they've been absorbed into Best Foods or some other mega-conglomerate.

Update: Dumb Dora was created by Murat "Chic" Young, before he started Blondie. By 1941, somebody else was continuing the strip.
