Hello It's that time of year again. Poll time ! Yes, cause we haven't given up on Vidukon. And I think it's good to provide access in europe to some vidding gathering, no matter how small that might be. But, here's the deal. Last time, we got totally overflowed by the work a real con required. It was time consuming with a fair share of crazy mad moments and as much fun as it was, it was too much to organize for 1 and a half people. So, if we make it happen another time, a few things we know will need to happen : a) We will need help and won't make it without it, a con needs some help to get off the ground b) We need to reevaluate the format of the con so that it's optimized for the size of it and the people behind it We are in the process of brainstorming all the possibilities to make something happen, but we're not sure what format will be possible depending on the help we get and the number of people attending as well. So here comes the Polls. Notice it is still vague at the moment as we need to narrow down the possibilities in front of us but it will strongly help us make decisions so we appreciate you taking the time to answer :) Please comment with any ideas, comment, suggestion that you see fit. we're in the brainstorming stage so any input is welcome :) Poll #1614059 Vidukon2011
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All, participants: 37 Dates : Tentative is Spring 2011, would you prefer ? Location : Would you rather have the con set in : Location : If in UK, which location in the UK would you rather have the con in ? Con Setting : Which format would you be open to ? Would you be willing to provide help to make the con happen Which help would you be open to provide ? Which help would you be open to provide ? (cont..) Thanks you all ! let's make it happen !

The lovely halcyon_shift has given me permission to do some initial sounding out of interest in a second Vidukon, to take place between October 2010 and April 2011. It may sound like a long way off, but I'm sure it will fly round quickly... As you may know, the first Vidukon, which was in October 2008, ended up with fewer attendees than initially hoped/planned for, so this time hopefully the extra notice will allow more people to plan for it. Not to mention allow for wider pimping and publicity. *nudges* This is a very early poll to gauge interest. Considerations you may wish to bear in mind are: - major events (I've knocked out the end of December due to Christmas) - proximity to Vividcon (Vividcon is in August, and it may be better to allow people more time to make vids, save money, etc after that event) - other conventions (if you know of any that we should aim to avoid clashing with, please shoot us a comment or you can email me at bopradar at Gmail dot com). Poll #1450837 Vidukon 2010/2011?
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All, participants: 42 Would you be interested in attending? What time of the year can you manage (remember this is 2010-11, not 2009-10): Which month would you MOST prefer (yes, I am making you choose!): Milton Keynes was chosen as an affordable, central location that was easy to travel to. Which statement do you most agree with: ETA: Er, that should be April 2011, not 2012, in the poll. Please feel free to share any thoughts/ideas in the comments, and please, please pimp the post to anyone you know who may be interested. I have stumbled across many people who have said 'oh, I wished I could have gone!' re. Vidukon, so let's try and get the word out there early. :) Thank you! We will poll again closer to the time. And if there are not sufficient numbers to justify a full 'convention', we can still look at a 'gathering' kind of thing. :) ETA2: Possible locations discussed in comments include Cardiff, Newcastle, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Location poll to follow. ETA3 If you don't have an LJ and want to keep posted about the event, drop me your email address at bopradar at gmail dot com and I'll let you know when there's news. Of course you can bookmark the LJ but I'm also happy to email alerts.

It's been a cross between the twelve tasks of Hercules and French farce (sadly not the bawdy variety), with a little bit of Monty Python thrown in (swamp, swamp, burned down, fell over, swamp) but finally all the packs are gone out. I think another week or two and I would have beat a record o_0 I deeply, deeply apologise for how long it's taken and thank you all so much for your patience :)

Wow, I'm posting this only about six weeks after the fact... Here are the 16 vids that I put together for the Slash Vidshow at vidukon. Thank you so much to the vidders who participated and to halcyon_shift and doccy for burning the disc. Slash Vidshow Playlist, VidUKon 2008As an overview, this playlist reflects my desire to have a good balance of m/m slash to f/f slash; I also wanted to feature a broad spectrum of fandoms, including one anime fandom. Below, I've included a few notes on why I chose the individual vids that I did. Cry Me A River by charmax (Lost & Delirious): Any vid that co-opts a Justin Timberlake song (in this case, a cover) for slashy purposes is golden in my book. I love the clarity of the narrative: I didn't need to know anything about the movie this is based on because I enjoyed Charmax's re-telling of it probably more than I would like the movie itself. All I Want Is You by ferdalump (Smallville): Clex mpreg! How could I not include this vid? My favorite fannish trope combined with my slash OTP? A no-brainer. Plus, this vid is so clever, using outside sources to really drive home the narrative. This is one of the few vids in the show that provoked an audible response from the audience; there were giggles throughout. :) The Way I Am by killabeez (Supernatural): I knew that I wanted to include a Wincest vid, so I was delighted to see this vid posted just days before I made my final selections. Actually, this vid is so sweet and light-hearted that the slash reading is almost optional. Like A Stone by sdwolfpup (Prison Break): This vid is the epitome of slash for me: the sexual tension is all in the suggestion, in the re-framing of the clips, in the slow, sustained build from the beginning to the end. Memory Vid by kiki_miserychic (Battlestar Galactica): I love the look of this vid, the artistry and the smut. Crush by proofpudding (Gossip Girl): The vidder describes this as a "lush and romantic view of Chuck and Nate's friendship throughout the first season", which it definitely is. It's also gorgeous to look at. Song of Truth by bradcpu (Firefly): I love the alternate world that Brad creates here; the idea of River and Inara as lovers is extremely compelling. You Make Me Wanna by obsessive24 (Skins): This vid is sexy and fun and flows smooth as silk. A Little Less Conversation by mamoru22 (Boston Legal): This vid is a straight shot of joy and humor, guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Calling the Moon by butterfly (Buffy the Vampire Slayer): The depth of emotion that this vid calls up startled me; before I knew what was happening, I had tears in my eyes. I felt the tragedy of Tara's death so much more strongly in this vid than I ever did when I watched the show. Mouth by kuwdora (Heroes): This vid does a great job of illustrating the sick, obsessive vibe that makes the Sylar/Mohinder pairing intriguing. Babyskin Tattoo by astandra_lay (Multi-fandom): I like fact that this vid turns an unflinching gaze on the way that we in fandom have sexualized the violence between men. Scrapbook of My Life by mamoru22 (Stargate: Atlantis): This vid makes cuteness an art. [VJ's note: Sadly, this vid did not make it into the final show because of mysterious FTP wonkiness. I simply couldn't get it to upload properly. My apologies!] Gloria by sweetestdrain (The Sarah Connor Chronicles): Another "classic" slash vid, in my opinion. Clever editing, a little bit of external source sleight of hand, and BAM, instant sexual tension between the female leads. Blurry by dayln03 (Hard Core Logo): I wanted to include this vid to showcase what special effects can do when in the service of slash. Wait Behind The Red Line by wistful_fever (Fullmetal Alchemist): As I mentioned earlier, I knew I wanted to include at least one anime vid in this show. Luckily, Fabella had this beautiful one on-hand. :) Cross-posted to my personal journal.

The one time I don't succumb to paranoia and triple check something has posted ... *headdesk* Or possibly it did post to a completely different comm o_0. Oh lord, that's going to haunt me. Ok! I want you to pretend it's early November. There's a tailor's dummy in a window changing fashions and, and a calendar putting dates back on. OMG con \o/ I personally had an amazing time and it was wonderful to get to hang with you guys andandand best vidding OD EVER. Thank you so much those who made it and those who couldn't - those donations and non-attending registrations saved the day. And here's the part that wasn't so important then but is kinda important now. Non-attending registration packs will be going out in November, depending on when I'm able to get into Plymouth and get some printing done. It turns out that's this weekend so those will be going out next week! Thank you for the heads up buffyann and I'm so sorry I managed to leave you all hanging. And now I'm posting this and checking it goes.

nushanakt: Photos!

head on over to my LJ to check out some of the photos i took at the con! (my apologies for how long it took for me to get them up...)
i suck. i know i haven't posted in ages, but i'm going to try and keep more on top of it now. i returned from 2 weeks in the UK, and then died for 4 full days. i was so utterly exhausted after the intense fieldwork and then frantic 10 days of travel lugging my suitcase and equipment every which way. upon returning to my office the following week, a pile of work was immediately dumped into my lap and i am still struggling to extricate myself from it. yay work. i'm sort of glad that the end of the school year has come here, because it clears up my schedule a bit more, phew! anyway: vidukon! i attended vidukon in milton keynes courtesy of my uni, and that was really really lucky for me! it was particularly good because it changed a lot of how i was thinking on vids and showed me just how awful my questions were. i'll be posting a more thorough con report once i can get my notebook out of my office, hehe. before anything else, i will say that it was so fantastic to meet vidders in person and get to know some faces of vidders who i've admired from afar for so long. now i know the lovely people behind the lj names. special thanks to halcyon_shift for letting me attend, to absolutedestiny for so articulately explaining it all to me, to thedivinegoat for giving me her friendship (and letting me eat some of her fries), to par_avion for sharing her wealth of knowledge and experience, and to talitha78 , buffyann , and fialka for staying up until god-knows-when to answer my silly questions. to everyone at the con: thank you for allowing me to sit in and enjoy vids with you. it really does mean a lot to me to have been so welcome!
