TDS/TCR: Jon Stewart is God
I'm not sure what to call this vid. I don't mean in terms of a title; I mean the format. I took a karaoke version of the song and then arranged clips of the character - complete with audio - so that he actually sings it.

It's not an original idea; I got it from the George Bush cover of "Bloody Sunday", and there's a Tony Blair cover of "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" in the same vein.

I've never seen it done in fandom. Is there any tradition of this? Any vocabulary to describe it? I'm shooting in the dark, here. I'd love to find other vids of whatever type this thing is, but I don't know what to look for.

Song: Jon Stewart is God
Artist: David Sasscer (great guy, by the way)
Fandom: Daily Show/Colbert Report
Content: Jon is God. Stephen agrees.

So far, it's only available on YouTube.

Thoughts? Ideas? Vocabulary suggestions? What hath I wrought here, exactly?

Oh, that was funny!

And thank you for the links to the others, they were funny also.

No idea about what to call them. They remind me of something we used to do at summer camp called Radio. They'd line up several kids in a row and each would be a separate radio program (speaking the part) and then one kid would go down the line miming changing the radio station so that as each kid/program turned on and off it would make a funny story as it hopped from news to sports to drama to song back to news, etc.

Sounds like an improv game I've seen a few times (though I forget what it was called).

Glad you enjoyed it ^_^

It's called a cutup.

I find it interesting that you didn't classify it as a vid as that is exactly what it is. I guess it reveals how separated vidding and other video mashups are (conceptually, socially etc) when really it's all just edits and footage making meaning.

I do think of it as a vid; I don't like the term "mashup", because it seems to mean the same thing as "fanvid" but it sounds less elegant. It's just that "vid" is a very general category, and I wanted to know if this particular subspecies had a name.

And now I know. Thank you!

Do you have links to others? YouTube and LJ interest searches didn't turn up anything.

Not many people self-identify under the cutups label - there aren't specific communities for this, it's more ferral youtubers and solo political bloggers riding the internet zeitgeist. Generally they are just thrown under the mashups catch-all.
