I have two extra free promo tickets for the Funk Vigilante show tonight at Evolution. Message me before 10pm, and I can meet you there to give you two tickets! meaganhogg at gmail dot com
I bought a four pack of tickets for the Death Cab for Cutie concert in Vancouver but two people had to cancel. I found someone for one of the tickets but still have one more ticket.

The concert is on Thursday July 16th at 7pm. It cost $35 and I'm hope to get that or close to it.

Any takers?

car trouble

70's
I had some car trouble today in Lot 8 at Camosun, Interurban. As I was leaving I drove slowly over a speedbump, but somehow managed to either dislodge, or completely break, my left front spring on my suspension, which then started rubbing/grinding against the tire. I don't consider this to be a huge deal, I have BCAA so I got a free tow to my mechanics shop, and will just have to pay to get it fixed.

The point of me posting this is to say thanks to the unknown person who saw me sitting in my car with the hood up, thought perhaps that I needed a jump, and actually stopped a little ways past me, reversed down, and pulled in along side me to offer one. I was on the phone with BCAA at the time and had the passenger side window up so when I barely heard him ask if I needed a jump, all I could really do is shake my head no. I never did have a chance to say thanks for the offer.

I'm glad to see that there are still people in this world who will stop without being asked, to simply offer assistance. It seems like they are a dying breed...
i got a question for you!

i need to drive out to the Sooke Fine Art Gallery after work(4:30pm)..rush hour! when i drove out there a few weeks ago, it was mid-day so taking the highway wasn't bad. i have to get there before they close at 6pm though, so i'm a little paniced.

craigflower/island hwy to connect directly to sooke without going on the highway is another option, and only takes an extra 5minutes according to mapquest. is the traffic less congested going that route into sooke??

thanks!

I just moved to Victoria and recently am no longer under my parent's medical anymore... so I need to get it! However, I have no idea where to go. I heard from someone you can get it at the access center, however, i have no idea where that is either. i have another friend who said that if you are low income (which i am) you can qualify for a low income medical that is cheaper... how would I go about getting this!?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as medical is something very important to have. Thanks!

Hi, I'm going on a backpacking trip next week and my friends are looking for a good cream replacement to use in their coffee.  They don't want powdered non-fat (skim) milk as it doesn't taste great and don't care for Coffeemate either.  I found a Nestle product that is powdered whole milk that would probably do the trick.  It's made for the Mexican market.  Has anyone seen this in town?  Apparently it's in Walmart in the US but I doubt it's at ours.  Is there a grocery store in town with a good selection of Mexican products?  Or does anyone have a better suggestion?  It needs to be lightweight and can't need refrigeration.  Thanks!

Cowichan Tubing?

I want to go tubing up at Cowichan. Half the people that I've talked to recommend just going and buying a tube and taking two cars but I don't want a trunk full of wet tubes and none of my other friends have a car. That idea is out.

Googling turned up two places that look like they do tube rental and shuttle service. This one and this one.

Have you ever used either of them? Or a different one? Help a girl out!

Also any other tips would be rad.

TIA!

Hi!

Just thought I'd put this out there since craigslist hasn't satisfied me....

I'm moving to Victoria in August or September. Looking for a place around Fernwood/Cook st. I'm a 25 year-old Environmental Studies student-girl-person. I don't know a soul in Victoria, so I guess I'll want to make friends with my new roommate(s)...that could be you! I'm pretty clean, like to shop at thrift stores and cook dinner at home. I drink socially and enjoy hosting the occasional house party but also like to hide out in my room sometimes and be a study hermit. I can pay around 550 max per month. I'm in Vancouver right now and I can only come to Victoria on the weekend so let me know when we can meet and I'll jump on a ferry :)

Never been in Victoria on Canada day. But I always try and see the fireworks regardless of where I happen to be unless I happen to be state side. I heard that they were in the inner harbour but where would you go to see them. Is there a place to put lawn chairs/blanket down to watch?

I've recently started taking a beginner's women kickboxing class at Zuma's, and have really enjoyed it. The other day however, I brought a friend who had taken kickboxing classes before, and she was really unimpressed with the method of teaching. Personally, I really enjoyed the class but since I don't have anything to compare it to, I don't know if I should keep on looking.

So far, the big two seem to be Zuma's and Peterec's. Does anyone have any opinions or experiences they can share about either gym? Preferably women's kickboxing, but any classes would be helpful I suppose!

TIA!

Me and my room mate recently lost our downtown parking spots due to the City of Victoria changing the downtown parking layout. Wondering if anyone knows of any free or cheap parking downtown or around downtown???? Anything will help. Thanks!

I fail at local geography. I want to go to the Marcus Tipton Memorial Drag Ball game on Canada Day. The Victoria Pride website says that it is at "Vic West Park." Which park is that, exactly? I did a Google search and the only park it came up with was "Vic West Skate Park," which I don't think is a place where they would hold baseball games.

Helmet laws

Do you legally have to wear a helmet when riding your bike in Victoria? I see some people with them and some without. I can't afford a fine so I'll wear one if I have to, but I kind of hate wearing things on my head.

Thanks!

Edit: Please note, I did not ask if it was a good idea to wear a helmet, I asked it if it's required by law. Thank you.

This seems to be an unusual question, but does anyone know where I can get a good quantity of sawdust for free in this town? I have an indoor composter I use that requires sawdust in combination of baking soda (which I got plenty of) to keep the odor down. The sawdust acquisition is a bit problematic because I honestly don't know where to start.

I tried Home Depot but my husband who used to work there say the company keeps their sawdust and ships it back to a 3rd party company so no dice there.

If anyone can direct me to a good source, I'd be forever grateful. I don't think the stuff is that expensive to the point where I need to break the bank for it.

Could anyone suggest a place to acquire bubble wrap? Or, better yet, does anyone have access to any that they'd be willing to part with?

Okay, if anyone wants a CD stand for free, I'm going to be cleaning out my old apartment on Saturday and will be setting it out by the dumpster unless someone wants to come and pick it up. It's pretty nice, with removable shelves and such, and I hate to just throw it out.

I also still have a portable dishwasher for sale, a Kenmore Hydrawash Plus that runs great and comes with a faucet attachment. I am reluctant to let it go but it will not fit into my new place. I'm asking 150$, or make me an offer. I need to get it out by June 30.
