Mysterious Woman & D [10 Jun 2009|04:33pm]

kukuxumusuu
I found this on Google not too long ago, and would like some information of which books this could be found in-- or perhaps I am overreacting, and this could only be a harmless drawing that Amano drew. I could be wrong, but then again, I always get that feeling in my chest that I might not be...

In short, I am true D/Doris shipper... so you can guess what it feels like when your favourite pairing will never see the light of day. The same goes for other couples as well that I hold dear. xD

Fanfics and fanart [24 Mar 2009|11:20pm]

[ mood | accomplished ]

Hi! This is my first time posting to this community. I've been a fan of Vampire Hunter D for a few years now, and in true obsessive fashion I've done some VHD fanfiction and fanart in that time. Thought I'd share it with you all.

Fanfiction

Title: "The Rant of D's Lefthand"
Summary: Well, it's exactly what it sounds like. It a continuation of the conversation D has with his hand after Dorris throws her wet, naked body at him and he says "NO!"
Rating: PG-13
Warning: Yaoi jokes. Plus, formatting occasionally screws up, grr.

Title: "The Temptation of D's Lefthand"
Summary: Poor D never gets a break. Between killing vampires and suppressing his bloodlust, D barely has enough energy to fight off the women. After the disturbing conversation in The Rant of D's Lefthand, a young whore pushes his luck.
Rating: PG-13
Warning: Implied yaoi

Fan Art

Title: "Portrait of a Dhampire"
My attempt at a serious, nice portrait. I like how it came out.

Title: "Vampire Hunter Double D?"
A joke pic inspired by my boyfriend. Completely ridiculous, but it seems to be popular...

American Wasteland: forthcoming American comic [07 Feb 2009|09:01pm]

thecert
In mid-2008, Devil's Due Publishing announced plans for an American Vampire Hunter D comic, to be titled Vampire Hunter D: American Wasteland and released in 2009. (Press releases here and here. An interview with DDP president Josh Blaylock about the project is here.)

A teaser image for the comic has been posted in DMP's Vampire Hunter D blog as of Feb. 6, 2009.

Note: According to this post by Kevin Leahy, VHD author Hideyuki Kikuchi has art, story, and coloring approval on the comic -- no worries our hero will be transformed to an American Wastrel!

I tend to be a biased reader sometimes. For instance, when it comes to pairings, I'm pretty much a fan girl to the one that I first encounter. More or less, I'm into the non-canon pairings. But for Vampire Hunter D, I instantly fell in love with the idea that Doris and D were meant for each other. I have read some fan fictions of the pairing after reading the first novel, and then watching the first movie.

I know for a fact that there are people out there who support this pairing, and then there are those who don't, and there are those who don't care who D ends up with because the books have too much potential to focus of the love life of our favourite Dhampir.

I would like to know if you'll confess that you're a biased reader when it comes to things like that. I mean, this entry doesn't have to be on the pairings, it can also focus on whether people think that Hellsing has some links to Vampire Hunter D, or, I should say vice versa, since VHD came out before Hellsing did. I've come across some really good fan fictions that tell that Alucard, from the Hellsing anime, and most recently the OVA's, that he's D's father, and that Sir Integra Hellsing is his mother.

If the term biased somewhat offends you, don't use it then, but tell me if you're like that: that you think that Doris was really the girl for D, or if you think that there are some similarities between Vampire Hunter D and Hellsing. Or anything for that matter.

Tell me what you all think. ^ ^

Why we involve ourselves with the D universe [16 Aug 2008|12:47am]

bleachedmud
Hmm... I don't see much discussion.  I want to discuss D with people.  I don't know anyone who reads the novels.

So while reading one of the novels, I thought to myself, "Why am I reading this?" (for reference, I'm on "Stuff of Dreams")
And I responded in a small amount of disappointment: I am reading this because of D.  If D were not in these books, I would not care about them at all.  I read to experience D.  "Vampire Hunter D" is a character novel.  It sounds bad at first, to me (that's why I said 'disappointment).  But it's not actually bad, is it?.
But I just adore experiencing the way D handles everything, and his attitude, and his supreme skill with EVERYTHING =D  If D died, and had a son, and then novels were made about the son, I would burn all the books.  Thankfully I have faith in Hideyuki Kikuchi.

I also thought, if D's transportation were a car or a motorcycle, I would not be reading these books.  If he were not the son of the Sacred Ancestor, it would also be a lot less intriguing.  If D didn't have his badass BLUE PENDANT, it'd suck.

I do like the setting though, it's all perfect.  I love the idea of the novels' future, and D having lived for hundreds of years and is completely numb/ bored with everything.  I love the way the world is, in D's world.  I've pondered whether or not I'd want to live there - I would not.  It would be too stressful.  D's world is best in only fantasy for me, not wishing to live there myself.

Amano's artwork is just amazing.  It's really perfect.  I can look at the artbooks endlessly, enjoying each individual picture as much as the first time I saw it.  It's very complex, and difficult to replicate.  There are some tricky, detailed outfits that would be really hard to recreate in real life.

Another thing:  I'm looking forward to the point where I stop seeing D as a face, and when I can look at him and realise there's a person inside.  I know there's a person, but maybe I just don't know enough about him to get past the face.
(heh.  This sounds crazy.  Like a super-fanboy or something.)
I think I can still appreciate his looks, though, at any point.  I think that's half the point of D, though, is to appreciate his looks.  Kikuchi constantly says things, that sound to me, like "You want to sex him. *hypnotize*".  That bugs me just a tiny bit, but we must be reminded of his powerful ... un-intentional aesthetic power, over people.
Or maybe D enjoys it?  I like to think he doesn't care what people think of his looks, and has become numb to it like most else.

Also as an extra thing:
Is there a map available anywhere of the frontier?  I mean, the land where D roams?  I've been wanting this since reading the first book.  I'm accustomed to remembering a map in my head with Tolkien's wonderful maps for each age.  Maybe a map would detract from the overall D-ness, but I'd still love it.

VHD manga volume #2! - review by me [18 Jul 2008|10:58pm]

mandyy
Sooo, how many of you have been able to get the 2nd volume of the manga yet? ;) Yanno what I love about these volumes? Is that they're nice and thick! I feel like I'm getting a whole book whenever I purchase one lol.

But in any case, a small review written in my opinion (for those of you who care to read) bout the latest installment of the manga...

First off, the characters!

D - Pretty cool as usual. I think my favorite scene was with him and Lina gazing at the black painting and one panel on the page where a hand is reaching up in the center shows a narrow view of both Lina and D on either side. And what made me remember it is that D looked sad as he recalled the painting and what it showed. I can't recall how he was in the novels at that point but I think I can take a good guess in that he was pretty much how he always is most of the time :P

Lina - I think I liked this Lina more than the Lina of the novels. I didn't pity her so much in the manga as I did reading about her crappy life in Tepes. I suppose that's cause the manga "toned" it down even though there was plenty of hints and scenes that Lina was treated poorly by those around her outside of Mr. Meyer. Did anyone get a strange Tifa Lockhart vibe from her hair design and face? In some panels I couldn't help but think I was seeing Tifa lol...not that that's a bad thing, just thought I'd mention it. Also, the colored page of her in the front of the novel = nice touch. MUCH better than the weirdly colored page in the first novel of Doris and Larmica.

Other characters - They were so minor I didn't even care for them. The mayor, Tajeel, Cuore, Mr. Meyer, Fern...eh! They served their purpose to move the plot and that's that. Their designs were alright and they weren't poorly drawn or shown lack of attention so there was nothing I found too strange about them in the story.

The Plot:

I dunno if this is a compliment to the manga artist but this volume was AS confusing to follow as the actual novel! So I guess Saiko Takaki did the book justice...? In all honesty I found the 2nd novel to be a chore to read because to me it was so different and such a let down compared to the first novel. And the plot in this volume was so erratic and confusing...it made me to never want to read the 2nd novel again because the pace of the storytelling was just a bumpy ride from start to finish.

The action scenes weren't as intense as the first volume either but then again they weren't that they as well in the actual book. My most favorite scenes were the ones he was talking to Lina, honestly. Because they were slower paced and important plot points were made during their interactions most of the time I found myself amused by D's reactions to Lina with her jokes and laid back attitude. I was able to appreciate these two more in the manga than in the novel due to the fact that D and Lina were shown a little bit more than just how they were in the novels where Lina would exhibit some sort of clinging behavior to D because her life sucked and how D was so intriguing to her.

I think one of the letdowns from this novel/manga volume is that a lot of very interesting sci fi is put in here and in later novels it's just dropped; we don't learn any more! Just like in the novel "Pilgrimage of the Sacred and the Profane" with the desert and the machines and monsters. We just get more questions and less answers; I want these questions to be answered, darn it! Lina's interest to learn the history of the Nobility is a great one, I think. They did so much with technology and science and yet couldn't find the answers when it came to their abilities and why they were they way they were. Hopefully this question will be answered in the final novel(s).

That's pretty much what I feel in more or less of a nutshell. What do you all think?

Well as people already know I went to Anime north cosplaying as Anime Version Ramika Lee. And on the way home I drew up some fan art to share with everyone. Some D and Alucard from Hellsing are to be more acurate. Please note that I had no referances at the time so this was done by memory... (I'll fix things in the colored version.)

Fateful Metting

And below are a few con pictures to add to the ones dravennyteshade posted. First from AN and the others are of a friend of mine's cosplay of D at Sakuracon (Personally I like dravennyteshade's Cosplay better).

Cosplay at Anime North Pictures!! [26 May 2008|01:17am]

dravennyteshade
[ mood | touched ]

Hello everyone!

Ive just gone to Anime North 2008 up in Toronto Canada! Now this was my first con and my first cosplay so heres how the weekened went and more or less how i feel towards all of it. I was all gun ho about the Con just until about a week before when my costume of Vampire Hunter D wasnt completed before the day i wanted it done. Either way we, meaning me, Jessie my best friend and Justin my BF, went to the con, our trip in was smooth and the hotel was nice, we stayed at the Renassiance on the 5th floor.

Overall the Con was decent, though it lacked in some areas. There wasnt much to do if you werent a Yaoi, Bleach, Naruto or Ouran High school loving fanboy/girl. Which to say i am none of those neither are Jessie or Justin, so there wasnt too much to do, however on a better note, majority of people there werent too bad. Most where nice and asked for pictures or hugs, though one guy tried to steal my sword that ticked me off!

The conventioneers werent there sadly enough i really had hoped they would have been it would have made the con for me. But alas, stupid people who cant take a joke or laugh at themselves got the Conventioneers banned from Anime North this year -sigh- It sucks... but what can you do.

Walking was a bitch, but painkillers helped ill tell you that. Other than that im surprised and pleased a good handful (more like 50 people or so) recognized the costume i had on and wanted pictures, three people wanted hugs, one made me dance, which was strange..... a few just said "Vampire Hunter D!" or 'D!" or "love the costume" which was awesome and slightly awkward, i need to learn to respond to my characters name better lol.

There where a decent number of good cosplays, alot of L's which im sorry to Death Note fans but sucks, L is the easiest cosplay to do ever! It consists of black hair, a white long sleeve shirt and jeans, WHOA dont kill yourself with the EFFORT there... didnt see as many Narutards as i thought i would, but alot had the headbands which i can ignore. I do have to say i respected ONE Narutard cause he knew who Vampire Hunter D was and wanted a picture! So that was nice.

I met two people i know here on LJ, Hi girls! And that was pretty much it. I have to say if you go to a con you have to dress up and do the costume well whatever it is, people will love you for it! Of course me prepared to block traffic and be asked for photo ops. Overall it was decent, and if next year's guests are better then we'll probably go again. Ill fix up the D costume, make a few things better and maybe do a Alucard cosplay as well cause the Hellsing Cosplay was lacking this year. Though the ones there where pretty good.

Now for Pictures, some are from my camera, others are from Jessies camera and the rest are from my BF Justins camera... Enjoy!!!
