You expected it to be different. Passionate and, well, sexy. It wasn't bad, though. It just wasn't great.

You expected to feel different afterward. Yeah, you've technically done this before, but this is the first time that counts. You're a little sore, a little sweaty, but that's it. And your mind... well, that's mostly just confused. Numb.

You didn't expect things to be so awkward after it happened. He's just lying there next to you. Not touching. Quiet. Staring at the ceiling. Where's the pillow talk, the cuddling?

And you try not to take this personally – that a less-than-stellar first time doesn't mean you're bad at this or unattractive. Just not used to it, is all. Still, you pull the sheet over your breasts and try not to look like a blushing no-longer virgin.

"Hey, are you alright?" He finally touches you, and you try not to flinch.

"Yeah, I'm okay. Just thinking." What else are you supposed to say? "Thank you"? God, this is crazy.

But then he sits up and grins. "Happy un-birthday to me. And can I just say – awesome present, Veronica."

You laugh on cue, but he can probably tell you're faking it for the second time in the past hour. Sure enough, he leans down and kisses your shoulder. "Next time will be better, y'know. Just gotta work out the kinks."

"If you mean handcuffs, I'm going for my taser."

Logan winces, which tells you another Lilly secret – assuming it was Lilly – that you didn't much want to know. Great. Here you are with a guy who probably got a 27 on the purity test, and you're acting like a total nun.

"Seriously, though," he continues like lying here naked is the most normal thing ever, "the entertainment industry should be sued for false advertising. They totally get the whole sex thing wrong."

"And how exactly would you know that, Logan Echolls? Been watching too much Skinemax?" Ah, there's your confidence again. Good.

"Eh. You haven't lived until you've spent your sixth grade spring break on a movie set while Dad's filming a love scene. I'm surprised I haven't turned into a monk."

You finally start laughing, and oh, it's such a relief. This is more like it. But then the sheet slips down, and when you reach for it, he yanks your hand away.

"Don't."

He quirks an eyebrow and pulls the sheet all the way off. You catch your breath. You try not to squirm. He just smirks.

"Damn, you're sexy."

"Logan –"

"I'm serious." And then his hands are everywhere, tracing paths all over your body. When he kisses your collarbone, your chest, your nipple, the whole world seems to melt away.

He licks your nipple – long and slow and oh god, so good – and then blows cool air over it. Then suddenly you're shivering because it tickles, and you're laughing and grinning and – wow. This is good. Like, really, incredibly good. All that weirdness is gone. It doesn't matter anymore that the first time kinda sucked, because sex makes sense now. You and Logan are here and you're laughing and naked and everything's perfect.

"You're good at this," you murmur once you've caught your breath.

"Nah. I just pay attention."

When you shift your legs into a more comfortable position, you notice that he's hard again. This time, you're the one saying, "Wanna try again?"

"Hell, yeah." He grins and slides down your body, and you realize what he's going to try and do. A little part of you – okay, a huge, screaming part – wants to push him away and tell him no, not that. You're not that kind of girl. Except maybe you are that kind of girl. Try it and see. Maybe it'll be amazing.

So you relax and close your eyes as he settles himself between your legs. It's strange at first, but then his tongue touches you there, and you nearly jump out of the bed. He mutters, "Hey! I kinda need my nose, okay?"

You laugh a little to ease the tension, and when he starts again, you find yourself flying. Every cell in your body is dancing and tingling, all centered around where he's licking and kissing you. So warm and tight and oh god so good. Heart races, breath catches, and you climb up up up until the whole world is light and noise and sensation and oh!

When you finally come down – still shaking and gasping – he's putting on a condom. You blush a little until he glances up and gives you one of those wicked smirks he does so well. "So, was that worth the price of admission?"

"It was worth a deluxe skybox." You wonder when you became such a flirt. Maybe it was a minute ago, when sex suddenly became fun.

The kisses get hotter as he pulls you close and rolls you over so that you're on top now. It's confusing for a second or two, then he whispers, "It's more fun this way." Oh, right.

Legs still sore – but in a good way – you shift until he's inside you again. God, he's so deep. It feels really good. Almost comfortable. You're too tired and sated to come again, but that's okay, because this is nice, too. Rocking back and forth, slow as the sea, with Logan staring up at you like you're a goddess. His hands touch your breasts and play with your hair, and he breathes like he's drowning. You wonder why you two spent so much time fighting when you could've been doing this.

It's the most alive you've ever felt.

Watching him come is like seeing who he really is, deep down. Every emotion he's ever felt – some strange, some familiar – on this face. You know you're not in love with him, but now you think maybe you could love him someday. Maybe.

And then it's over. Second time's a charm. Though you really should be getting home, you want to just lie here with him for a little while longer. The silence isn't awkward anymore. Calm before the storm, maybe, but you'll take it anyway.

"Pretty good, huh?"

"Oh, yeah. You're a sex god, Logan Echolls."

"That's what all my other girlfriends tell me."

A shoulder-slap just hard enough for him to know that he's not as funny as he thinks he is, but he keeps on laughing.

You never expected sex to be fun like this, but it is. And you're learning that the unexpected is sometimes the best thing in the world.
