Don't forget! Tonight The Brickhouse Boys will make their Open Mike's debut, with special guests Crystal Gorden, i griega and The Kickback. The music will start at about 8:30, with the Boys playing around 11:00 or 11:30, followed by Vermillion's favorite sons, The Kickback.
Open Mike's is in downtown Vermillion, right next to the Main St. Pub.
$2 at the door. Not attending will be taken as a personal insult. If my parents can make it, so can you. And bring your cohorts.

The Sassy Stitchers (aka Vermillion Stitch n' Bitch) will be exhibiting their fiber art work knitting, crocheting, spinning and more at the Washington Street Arts Center on Sunday, March 19 with a reception from 1 to 3 p.m.
Everyone should come! I think we'll have snacks!

The USD Vox group has organized a "Burma Shave" to protest HB1215, the bill that bans all abortions in South Dakota, on Thursday, March 2 from Noon to 1:00 PM along the campus area of Cherry Street. Show up with signs or without and bring a friend!

Fred Phelps (proprieter of God Hates Fags) is coming to Yankton (for the second time in 2 months) to protest the memorial service of Allen Kokesh, a 21-year-old Yanktonite who died this week of injuries he got in Iraq in December.
Fred believes that America is too gay-friendly, that God is super pissed, and that He's killing American soldiers with IED's (Improvised Explosive Devices) to show us the error of our ways. He protested a similar memorial service in December for two other Yankton servicemen who died in Iraq. They stood on the sidewalk, holding large neon-colored signs with messages such as "Thank God for Dead Soldiers," "God Hates America," "America is God's terrorist," "Thank God for IED's," and similar pearls of wisdom. They also like to stand on flags, and yell at passers-by. They typically picket in a group of 8-10, but there could be more, especially since South Dakota recently tried to pass laws against them.
Anyway, the memorial service is Feb 12 (tomorrow) at the Yankton High School Summit Activities Center, at 1:52pm. Fred and his gang will probably be there around 1, and will leave once the service starts. I encourage you to go and show Fred that picketing at funerals is not going to fly in South Dakota.

As many of you probably know, Corey Briest (VHS class of 1999) was recently injured in Iraq. This was in the Yankton P&D today, if anyone is interested in helping he and his family:
Donations are now being accepted at both First Dakota National Bank locations in Yankton (225 Cedar Street and 2105 Broadway Avenue) for Sgt. Corey Briest and his family. Corey and his wife, Jenny (Johnson), are parents to 3-year old Kylie and 1-year old Connor.
Corey was seriously injured Dec. 4 near Baghdad, Iraq, in the line of duty, while serving with Yankton's Battery C, 1st Battalion, 147th Field Artillery unit.

HJR 1001, a bill that would put a constitutional amendment against gay marriage on the ballot in 2006, has sailed through the South Dakota House. A press conference and rally has been planned to respond to this latest attack on equality (not to mention the state budget). The event will take place The Center in Sioux Falls (3504 S. Minn Av., Suite 108.) at 3:00 on Saturday, February 12. Join us in telling the legislature that Hate is Not a Family Value!"

Greetings! I stumbled upon this group. I lived in vermillion for 3 or 4 years, and briefly went to school at USD. I live and work in the Sacramento, CA area now; but am interested in getting in-touch and/or back in-touch with people from back that way. I'm planning on flying out sometime this winter. Maybe could get together and have some fun. ta-ta folks!
