Update for January 29, 2007

Posted by [info]om_nom_berries on 2007.01.29 at 23:21
I think I will use this journal to post about updates to the site and, perhaps, expanded comments from me on each page.

So, here's today's new page.

The note for today is about Calinoa.

The Kingdom of Calinoa: At A Glance

The Kingdom of Calinoa has existed as an independent nation for around one thousand years. It has always managed to be semi-autonomous thanks to the mountainous terrain that surrounds it.

Politics
Today, Calinoa is a monarchy. The king or queen rules with the help of a small parliament with members elected from the twelve regions that make up the country. In this way, Calinoa can be considered a constitutional monarchy, and is sometimes considered one of the most democratic countries in all of Tyr.

The crown is an inherited right, and there is no rule that bars women from taking power in their own right. Suffrage is considered a right to all people in Calinoa, though some poorer people are sometimes denied this right, especially in the rural areas.

Climate
The country enjoys a balmy climate in the lower valleys. Higher areas tend to see a full rotation of the four seasons with particularly snowy winters. Calinoa is filled with animals native to the mountains, including goats, birds, and donkeys. Many traditional Calinoan diets regularly feature goat and chicken.

People
Calinoans are hearty people with strong hearts and lungs. They have built their greatest cities on the mountains they love so dear. Though traditionally a human kingdom, Calinoa has allowed many elves from the elf kingdom of Saarladen to emigrate and become citizens.

Trade and Economy
While not the strongest economy in Tyr, Calinoa enjoys regularity in employment amongst it's people thanks to a steady supply of raw material. Eighty percent of Calinoans are employed in the mining industry. The mountains of Calinoa are filled with minerals, and the Calinoans have been extracting them in huge numbers since steel and iron have become more desirable.

The downside of all the mining and metal refinement in Calinoa has been the polution this process has caused. The issue is just starting to come to the attention of many around the country.

For the sake of me not being self-indulgent and abusing this comm to ask inane crap like, "OMG do u guyz liek my comic?", I'd like to ask questions people might actually care to answer.

I thought about this while writing my F.A.Q...

What influences you? I mean movies, t.v., literature, music, art, comics... the whole shit. Specifically, what kind of fantasy do you like?

I can go first. I like:

-fantasy, but I like to read more about people than about worlds. I believe that if you're good, you can write the characters and the rest of the shit kinda falls into place as it relates to those characters. Its hard to do, though. George Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series does it well, but he's also super badass as a writer.

-80's cartoons. They were so hyper fantasy and spazzy. And the dialogue was ever so bad. But it was great. She-Ra was a huge influence on me as a kid. I have the DVDs now and watching interviews with the creative team made me laugh. Their original education consultants had suggested that She-Ra never use violence because, they claimed, little girls didn't like violence. The team laughed that suggestion off, thankfully, and I was treated to thousands of hours of She-Ra kicking the asses of men and women alike.

-My music tastes vary, but I love Matt Good. Always will. It helps me to write and draw, really.

-I really should watch more tv, which sounds completely nuts in this day and age, but there is much out there I should like to see.

Well, okay, my brain is broken now, so if anyone wishes to share, please do!

This is just a test post, but it can be an initial "say hi" post.

So, say hi!
