Treasure Island Pirate ship wedding, Weeee
Oh yeah, my Vegas wedding post...I forgot to add it to this community. Well here it is.
First I have to rave, rave, rave about Treasure Island and their weddings. Everyone at Treasure Island was so pleasant to deal with, and the Pirate wedding deal included SO MANY things, people were so surprised with all that we got: We got a limo ride from the hotel to get our marriage license, bathrobes, a bottle of 1998 Champaign, crystal flutes, they did my hair and makeup, I got my bouquet and his Boutonniere, and they had the photographer and videographer there. I love how I didn’t have to concern myself with all the things they took care of. I only spent my time working on the fun creative things, like making the invitations, my dress, his duster/jacket, and making other accessories like skirt, sash, purse, and hat.
We told our parents we were getting married on Thanksgiving weekend, and on Leap Year Day, we did it.

The day before, we took the limo ride to the marriage license office. It is located around where downtown Vegas is, and it was nice to have our on fancy limo take us there. Getting the license took 10 minutes; there wasn’t a long line at the time we walked in.

On the wedding morning, since the ceremony was for 10:30am, I got up early, at about 6:30am. It wasn’t nerves, I just happened to have woken up at that time. I took a shower and then waited for my appointment at WET the salon/spa in Treasure Island. My hair appointment was 8am, and my makeup was 9am.
For my hair, I had an idea but I wasn’t defined yet. I gave the lovely woman who did my hair, Rosa, certain key words I had in mind…I’m not much of a hair person, so I wasn’t really prepared. I told her I was thinking of something retro, victory rolls, kind of up but kind of down, simple, with a little height. She put my hair in rollers, teased, hair sprayed…and I was nervous. With only an hour for hair I wondered if she would be able to make something I liked. Then she busted out a victory roll and I was thrilled! That’s kind of what I really wanted to have, a damn victory roll in my hair, and she did it. Woohoo!

(This photo was that night, so the hair isnt as perfect as it was in the morning)
So then I sat in another chair and it was time for makeup, and I had printouts of the makeup I had in mind. The makeup woman was totally jazzed when she saw the images. I wanted something retro again, strong brow, red lips, heavy top liner and fake lashes fo sho! She cleaned my face, and did the eyes first. The eye makeup took a long time, especially adding the fake lashes, she applied them carefully. Then the rest of my face didn’t take long at all. She brushed on mineral powder makeup and instantly my face looked as though it had been Photoshopped. Rosa then pinned my little hat into my hair to make sure it was secure. The makeup lady brought other women from the salon to check out the make up she had just finished. She was pretty excited.
So then at 10am, I ran up to the bridal dressing room with my dress. I dashed in, and dressed myself…my friend/“MOH” was on her way. She got to the dressing room, and we finished dressing ourselves, and she zipped me up.

We then went to the chapel area and waited. My bouquet was there and I couldn’t believe how packed that thing was, it was so dense and heavy. The Officiant came out to run through what was going to happen and what he was going to say.

He was wearing a suit, and all I could think of was “You’re supposed to be dressed like a ship captain. Where is your costume?” He then went away, and we all waited a while. It was a little past 10:30 am and we were wondering what was going on. At 10:38am, the Officiant came out, dressed up like a captain and then I knew it was showtime.
We all went down the elevators, then walked through the casino. We waited in the doorway area between the casino and outside. It was such a bright sunny warm day out, I couldn’t have asked for anything better. The boy and MOH were sent out onto the ship, me and my dad waited for our queue. And then we were told to go.
Me and my daddy walked out, and were lead as to what direction to go. Walked through a little tunnel were there were rose petals on the path. We went up the steps into the ship, and the wedding started.

It was so bright; I was trying not to squint too much, but I was squinting more than I would have liked. Then it was time for the man, the ring bearer slid down the ropes and I was so jazzed to see that. That was another part of the Pirate Ship deal, and it happened. Yes!

The boy had written vows….the night before our flight over. I was stressing.stressing.stressing over memorizing them, since it was VERY last minute. BUT the ceremony just kind of came with standard vows, with actually made me feel better cause the thought of standing up there with mics on and stammering to remember my vows was scaring the poop out of me.
So we said our “I do’s” and kissed, and that was that. We were married.

We went off the ship for picture time. Then the guests went back up to our hotel room and we stayed outside for more photos. The photographer directed us how to stand and what to do for the most part. After being outside, we went back up to the chapel and the photo studio in there. We took photos until we couldn’t think of any other photos to take. It was really fun, and our photographer, Heather, was great. She loved taking our photos and said how fun and cute we were.

After that, we went back up to our room where everyone was waiting. My dad told me everyone in the chapel loved our outfits, that it was refreshing to see something other than white dress and tux. We all hung out and had fun.

After an hour or so, we walked over to The Venetian for the “reception” lunch. As we were walking out, there was another couple getting married on the ship. I knew there were more than one wedding there that day. Lunch at Zeffrinos was great, we were seated with a view.

The cake they made from my drawing was bigger than I had thought, but looked pretty close to what I drew out, and tasted like heaven…that’s more important than looks en it comes to cake, the taste. I have never tasted a better cake.

That night we all hung out and saw the stupid/silly Sirens show twice, it was so funny.
My recording of the show
The next morning we met up at the Photo Sales office next to the Chapel in Treasure Island. They had the greatest deal as far as photos, 2 8x10s, 2 frames, all photos printed out on 4x6 as well as digitally on a disk, cute mini book made of some of the photos, cute little video montage made of some of the photos, and our choice for 3 images to be printed out on big canvases was $1,800. With us being graphic designers, anything less than every photo the photographer took, wasn’t going to fly with me. Then the video was $377.
The boy can’t believe how much the photos were; I told him that was a pretty good deal. I know he would rather spend the money on a new computer…but in 10 years that computer will be almost useless, and our photos are still going to rock.
SO….all in all…the day was fun. Getting married is fun, getting married in Vegas is funner, and getting married on a pirate ship in Vegas is the funnest. The guests were all from my side, he didn’t invite too many people. But I love them all for flying cross country to be there for my wedding. Considering everyone there was from Virginia, New Jersey and Connecticut (me and him are from Maryland)…having 10 guests (12 people including us) is pretty damn cool for a Vegas Wedding.

Onto my 2cents of advice
Get your nails done for the photos. I had mine done for the first time in my life. It hurt, I bleed…but the photos look great.

Get your make-up done because it gives you so much confidence. I’m self-conscious about my skin, but not on that day, it was freeing not to worry about my skin. If the makeup wasnt part of my deal, I would have had someone come in to do it for me. Its worth it when you get the photos.

Wear comfortable underwear. I spent $15 on a pair of panties from Victoria’s Secret (the most I’ve ever spent on panties) and I forgot I was wearing them all day, they were so comfy.
Put pads in your shoes.
Anything that happens to your dress after the ceremony and photos, doesn’t matter.
Spend money on the photos. (Or at least really research if you are looking for a more affordable photographer) At first I didn’t care, but the photos really are important. (I’m sure most of you already know that) When I saw how cute our professional photos were, I then came around to believing the value of your wedding photos. I’m so glad with how great all the photos our photographer took.
Make the wedding FUN! Dont take it ALL so seriously, it should be fun, and enjoyable. Everyone should laugh and enjoy themselves.

And if you’re thinking of having a pirate ship wedding in Vegas, I totally recommend Treasure Island. (Ha, they're the only place to have a pirate wedding in Vegas) Its great that they know just where you are supposed to go and what to do, and they direct you. I love that they have done these weddings a million times, and you feel confident in their experience, and you still feel really special and important. Sure the ship package is more expensive than most other vegas weddings, but it is so friggen worth it, I wish I could do it again. Getting married on a ship in Las Vegas is so fun!
