| venue capacity |
[19 May 2009|10:11pm] |
Hello, I'm looking for a bit of insight regarding how audience capacity of a venue is determined in this wonky city. I've been poring over Vancouver's website, finding a lot of really vague things, so I'm hoping perhaps someone might have some experience in these matters. I know things like fire code, building code, square footage, exits and parking spaces all play a part. Is there something I'm missing? Does the no-dancing thing play a part anywhere, or is that to do with liquor licensing?

| casual hip outdoor sports for adult beginners |
[21 Apr 2009|03:30pm] |
i've searched craigs and found some leagues/teams but there are always fees and waivers and other crap. are there any fun outdoor teams or leagues for total beginners?
-ultimate frisbee -soccer -badminton -dr. dodgeball? :)
a weekly team that is free or cheap is best. i also have some lingering injuries so would have to modify my approach at some things (bad back & arm) and an understanding team would be nice. softball would be cool but i can't swing a bat with my arm...
bonus if it's full of young or young-at-heart/musician/artsy/punk types, and is in east van.
let me know, thanks.

| RED HOUSE IS LOOKING FOR A ROOMMATE FOR APRIL 1st |
[07 Mar 2009|06:59pm] |
THE RED HOUSE SEEKS A ROOMMATE FOR APRIL 1ST
We are a communal house in Strathcona. We are 4 people and one cat named Konstantine and her on-and-off canine boyfriend Winston who likes to have sleepovers. We aren't accepting any more animals due to allergies. We are queer/trans positive. We have irregularly scheduled house meetings where all decisions are made by consensus. We buy all of our food together, and each take one night a week for cooking. Our dinners and groceries are mostly vegetarian. We buy both organic and conventional food. There is a house fund at $10 per month for buying us awesome things, or paying for unexpectedly large bills. We have a chore wheel, one biweekly (once every two weeks) and one monthly. We're a pretty calm house most of the time. We have wireless internet. We aren't very accessible because the house has a lot of stairs just to get to the front door. The room is large-sized and cute with big east facing windows and gets lots of light and hard wood floors.
We are looking for someone who is excited about living in a communal house and has time and energy to contribute to shared living. Some shared activities that some of us have been working on lately include: working in the garden, building a mini bike shop, crafting, making suarkraut and kombucha/kocha-kinoko, baking pies and cupcakes, hula hooping, talks and walks, all those little extra things that make a house a home. We're looking for someone with clear communication skills as we've found this to be essential in maintaining a functional shared living space. We're looking for someone who is able to express their own concerns in a thoughtful way, and able to own up to the mistakes they might make. Experience in communal living would be great, but live and learn right?
Rent: $345 Food and other house purchases: around $135-$200 Gas: $20 Hydro: $10 Phone/Internet: $16.xx Long Distance: $2-7 House Fund: $10
With $345 rent it adds up to $543-613 per month for everything. (Costs do fluctuate from month to month)
email: nat@resist.ca for questions!
