Today (Saturday) is Day 3 of the Vancouver Asian Film Festival.
Here are some highlights:
-Hiros and Villains Panel Discussion: a look into the reality of Asian representation in the media today (geeky model minority? ultra violent gang member?) - Saturday, Nov. 3rd, 11am
-The Irony of it All: a program of short films, including the winners of this summer's Mighty Asian Moviemaking Marathon (MAMM) competition - Saturday, Nov. 3rd, 1:30pm
-Immigrant Stories: the lives of three immigrants from various backgrounds are explored - Saturday, Nov. 3rd, 3:30pm
-In the Director's Chair with Justin Lin: a special seminar featuring Justin Lin (in attendance), the director of films such as Fast & the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Annapolis, and Better Luck Tomorrow; special appearance by actor, Roger Fan; Q&A; possible autographing opportunity - Saturday, Nov. 3rd, 5:30pm
-Chick Flick Mix, Falling for Grace: a story of identity and life, featuring Margaret Cho, Ken Leung, Christine Baranski, Roger Rees, Clem Cheung, and Elizabeth Sung - Saturday, Nov. 3rd, 7:30pm
-Asian Male Libido, Shanghai Kiss: a Chinese-American actor moves to Shanghai to connect with his ancestry; starring Ken Leung, Hayden Panettiere, and Kelly Hu; guest host in attendance: Grace Park - Saturday, Nov. 3rd, 9:45pm
All screenings take place at Tinseltown Cinemas. Matinees are $6. Evenings are $8. Membership is $1. Tickets are available at the door.
