About
Welcome to the Vale of Tyr Livejournal Community. The intention of this community is as an adjunct to the BLADES website, not as a replacement. All information published here by the campaign team will be duplicated on the BLADES website.

The Vale of Tyr is the 2007-2008 Low Level Campaign for BLADES (Bath Live Action Dramatic Encounters Society), Bath University's LARP Society. The premise of which is as follows:

"A rockslide has exposed a narrow passage through to a rich and fertile valley. Whilst locals had been sure there were places to live in the mountains, the difficulties of getting in and out deterred exploring, never mind settling. With this new passage, the Baron has ordered the local Lord, Lord Cumbling, to investigate the land beyond and settle it for the glory of his Barony (and its rich farming land and hopefully equally rich mineral deposits).

The new pass lies two and half days travel from Kradle, a small town developed from a trading post established to serve the mines and villages built in the foothills of the mountains. Holding perhaps 1000 hardy souls, including a standing force of 40 Defenders, Kradle can supply all sorts of needful things for the frontiersman.
"

The campaign concept is one of a frontier settlement, not cut off from the support of civilisation, but far enough away to need to make their own way. The characters will form the local patrol, and possibly take on other roles in the community depending on their decisions.

The reasons characters have ventured out into this world are potentially without measure, below are just a few to get you started:

The Guardian
The settlers will be living on the edge of civilisation, every day a struggle for survival. All manner of threats could arise at any time. Some Guardians are there for the challenge, some to save lives, but ultimately they take the same actions, protecting those not strong enough to protect themselves.

The Explorer
The Vale of Tyr and surrounding mountains are home to a hundred new places and new things. For Explorers with a keen eye there is profit, excitement or just great beauty to see.

The Scholar
Where ever people go, there must be knowledge and those who carry it. Some Scholars will go there because they like being the cleverest around, some because they scent new knowledge and new experiences, some to help others with what they know.

The Shepherd
New land and new settlers means a new way of living. There are always those who believe in there being a correct way to live, in harmony with each other, in harmony with the world around, or apart from one or both. Whatever their view, all such people need a place willing to accept their views and prove them right.

The Wanderer
Any character looking for land where they are free to come and go as they choose may see the mountains as an opportunity. The Kingdom is unlikely to ever explore the mountains as a whole unless they find something worth doing it for, so here a Wanderer can still live free.

The Young Blood
Any character seeking to prove themselves, by surviving on the edge of civilisation, by showing that they have what it takes, perhaps more so than others, or perhaps just for themselves.

The Fallen
Once rich, powerful or influential, now this character is brought low, by the designs of others or his own misfortune. New land provides new opportunities, a new hope...

The Bound
However it came about, this character owes a debt. Perhaps a gambler, perhaps a criminal who is compelled to work to pay for his crimes, perhaps an enemy taken in one of the Barony’s many border conflicts. However The Bound came to it, an opportunity now arises to pay his way to freedom in a single short year.

The Healer
Where ever there are people putting themselves in harms way, there are those who will feel their calling to help them, to care for them in their recovery and to see them made strong, whoever they may be.

This community provides an alternate method of IC conversation between the characters involved in the Vale of Tyr campaign. Such conversations are public conversations, such as one may partake in, or overhear, down the pub or outside a cafe. When starting such a conversation please post when and where the conversation takes place in the subject line of the post and then set the scene in the body. Should your character not be in a position to take part in the conversation, for whatever reason, please refrain from taking part. Because these are conversations taking place in a public forum, however, it is not unreasonable that your character hears what was talked about, this is a small community with little to entertain itself but gossip.
