plan b question
it's been one week since i've taken plan b and i am bleeding. it appears to be like a period type of bleeding (i have to wear a pad) so i'm wondering if this means i'm in the clear from you know, being pregnant or if this is just a plan b side effect and there is still a chance i may be pregnant.

my period's not due for another two weeks and i'm sure i've thrown my cycle off with taking plan b.

the bleeding just started earlier. it's redder than usual i think. i don't have cramps, etc. i'm just kind of bleeding.

i'm not on any birth control at the moment (i will be soon, definitely) so yeah... any help would be great. thanks in advance!

Plan B causes withdrawal bleeding about a week after you take it due to the hormones in the pill. It's not a period.

But yes, I'd say you're safe.

totally agree to this. I bled the week after i had taken Plan B once, and asked the same question and was told that you know it works when you get Plan B bleeding. so you are in the clear!

Second this. Also, Plan B may throw off your cycle for a month or so, but it will go back to normal when your hormone levels drop back down. :)

thank you :) i didn't know about withdrawal bleeding. the previous times i have taken plan b, everything went normally and i didn't have any random bleeding so i was kind of surprised this time around.

oh hormones. lol.

The bleeding itself does not really betoken pregnancy. It may have a small chance of not betokening non-pregnancy, either -- the Plan B kind of disconnects your ovaries' cycle from your uterus' cycle. If it's a reasonably heavy bleed, though, I'd figure chances are good that even if there'd been anything there, it wouldn't have much to implant in.

You may, some 20 days after the sex in question, still wish to take a pregnancy test just to be ultra-mega-totally-sure, but the timing suggests that you got the plan B at the right time and very probably shocked your ovaries into non-ovulation.

true. i was unsure whether or not bleeding meant i was safe from being pregnant or not. i had my last period less than two weeks ago, right around the new years day-ish and i think i would be ovulating by now had i not thrown my cycle off.

i definitely want to be safe so i'm going to wait it out and then take a test. unless my 'real' period comes, i suppose. probably tmi but right now, the bleeding is all dark brown and very 'last day of my period' type of bleeding. lol :/

I'd figure this is just a hormonal withdrawal bleed, and... Hm, if you'd be ovulating now, but are instead having the hormonal drop that provokes a bleed, that does sound like your timing is such that the ovaries were probably knocked over their little heads in time.

I'm not a fortune-teller, can't be sure, but from what you say, the odds are in your favor, bleeding or not.

Good luck! (And it's not TMI at all. Very little is TMI on VP. We need to know so we can offer the best suggestions possible, honest!)
