Three very simple quick questions about my period and birth control :]
1) I just started HBC a week ago, on the first day of my period. I think today was the last day of my period. The thing is, my periods are rarely ever longer than 3-4 days w/o HBC. What's going on? I thought it was supposed to make your period shorter? It's been a mighty heavy 7 days :/

2) Now that I am on HBC (Yaz), and since I started taking pink/active pills on my period, will that mean that my period will come when I take the white pills? or will it just slowly change over the next months to match the no-period on the 24 active pink pills & period on the 4 white pills?

3) One thing I was just curious about, before I started HBC, my period had a pattern of: the night before getting it there would be some brown discharge, then I would have a day of my period, then 24 hours later it would stop, and resume 24 hours later for about two days. Is that normal? It never seemed to cause any problems, I just thought it was weird, lol.

Thanks! :)

When you are starting HBC, the adjustment period can really throw your bleeding patterns out of whack. That's why your bleeding is prolonged now; you started HBC and, basically, your body doesn't know what's what, so the bleeding has been dragged out.

Your withdrawal bleeds will likely come during the last four pills of the pack. It doesn't always, and it's normal enough to skip a bleed here and there (especially on 24-4 formulations), but that'll probably be where it happens.

Bear in mind that it can take up to three months for your bleeding pattern to adjust to the pill's cycle, so if your bleeding takes that long to synch up, don't sweat it.

the first pill pack start is always weird if you start it while bleeding and it's not characteristic of future periods-- your future bleeding will (most commonly) be during the white pills and you might not bleed at all before starting the new pack

Re. question #3, before I went on the pill, my period always started slowly, got really heavy, was normal for about a day, then would pretend to disappear for a while and then come back light-to-medium for another day or two. So, for me and I would imagine many other women, that kind of weird patter is normal.
