Hi folks. You may think it's a little too early to talk about May when the April show (this Friday) hasn't happened yet, but the May show date is actually much closer than you think.
That's because the May show will be on May 1st, which is 2 weeks after this Friday's show. We originally intended for the 8th but now the UofT has made that date unavailable due to renovations in that very room in the Sanford Fleming building. Be sure to arrange your work or other schedules so that you don't miss the anniversary show (and your chance to win our best prizes of the year, especially the free AN passes).

This month, we've got 2 spotlights that are based off of older series. Decode is a 13-ep TV version of the Birdy the Mighty OAV series from a decade ago, and Palisen Files is an OAV prequel to the Votoms TV series from the 80's.
Oh, and I'm sure you'll wanna get that cliffhanger from Black Lagoon overwith... :P

No Friday the 13th themed stuff this month. No Manly March theme this year either. (only fair since February was mostly sugar-free :P)
Instead, we're gonna show the commercial version of Yawara, which feels like it's been a whole decade coming since it was licensed. This'll probably make us the first anime club to show the Animeigo's sub of it. :D

We're still deciding on anime series to start showing full-time in Sept., so this will be your last month to make a suggestion. Shuffle from last month and Lucky Star this month are certainly fair game! If you want us to continue with them, write them down on our request list on the table outside.
Also, you're not seeing things - we're going to play Campus Guardress for the 3rd time! Last time we showed it was in Fall '97, and now we've got a lot of newer-generation members which make revisiting this old favorite worth the while. ;)
Schedule for Fri., July 18, 2008
6:30pm Hare+Guu Deluxe #6 (last)
7:00pm Shoujo Showcase: Itazura no Kiss #1-2
8:00pm Spotlight: Lucky Star #1-2

It's just not UTARPA if we don't put our shows on every Friday the 13th of the year!
Looks like we won't be starting a new top-slot series until school starts up again, so we've got more spotlights for you to try out. We also have Wagaya no Oinari-sama as our pick from the spring season of anime playing in Japan right now.
Schedule for Fri., June 13, 2008
6:30pm Hare+Guu Deluxe #6
7:00pm Spotlight: Shuffle #1-2
8:00pm New From Japan: Wagaya no Oinari-sama #1-2
9:00pm [break]
9:45pm Spotlight: Blood+ #1-2
10:45pm Le Chevalier D'Eon #19-20 (dubbed)
P.S. look for the return of a classic OAV series in the dog days of summer!

As with all our anniversary shows, we'll have the most prizes of the year out as well as The Prize Viking dishing out free Wunderbars. Our feature movie this time round is the highly acclaimed 5 cm Per Second.
Since we still haven't chosen a successor to Suzumiya yet, make sure to pay attention to Tweeny Witches as a possible next regular series.

7:00pm Spotlight: Tweeny Witches #1-2
8:00pm 5 Centimeters Per Second

In our many years we've had to skip quite a few titles that were hot for their time for various reasons. Due to our covering all 3 Slayers TV series, one of those forgotten titles was Lost Universe (a.k.a. "Slayers in Space") which features most of the same Japanese voice cast. Well it's been a darn long while since we had any Slayers in our lineup and our membership is quite different now, so this month a couple of our execs have selected Lost Universe for you as a not-so-mouldy oldie from the late 90's.
Also featured this month, shoujo ai & mecha fantasy combine in Kannazuki no Miko:
Schedule for Fri., Apr. 11
6:30pm Vintage pick: Lost Universe #1-2
7:30pm Shoujo Showcase: Kannazuki no Miko #1-2
8:30pm Hare+Guu Deluxe #3
9:00pm [break]
9:45pm Paradise Kiss #9-10

Just a reminder that the next UTARPA show's tonight/tomorrow (depending on when you read this), and earlier in the day you can drop by One Million Comix to meet
voice actor Chris Patton from 1 to 4pm.

Two big things are happening in less than a couple of weeks time, on the same day!
First,
One Million Comix will have voice actor
Chris Patton (Sagara Sousuke in Full Metal Panic) in the store on March 14 from 1-4pm. This is part of Chris' first ever visit to Toronto. There'll be other events that he'll be attending that weekend, but this is the only one which is FREE to you!
The other thing happening on that Friday is obviously the next UTARPA show, where you can catch the finale to Suzumiya: (well, the first series of it at least ;))
Schedule for Fri., March 14 6:30pm The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya #"12"-"13"
(broadcast order) [END OF SERIES]
7:30pm
Spotlight: Rental Magica #1-2
8:30pm Hare+Guu Deluxe #2
9:00pm [break]
9:45pm Paradise Kiss #7-8
10:45pm Le Chevalier D'Eon #13-14 (dubbed)
We won't be starting a new regular show in April, so take advantage of the extra time to make a request at the show for a new series to start up!

Well next week is shaping up to be pretty good. A holiday on Monday (Oops, Family Day is the following Monday on the 18th), Valentine's on Thurs., and your monthly dose of anime escapism on the Friday: ;)
Schedule for Fri., Feb. 15
6:30pm The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya #"10"-"11" (broadcast order)
7:30pm New From Japan: Spice and Wolf #1-2
8:30pm Hare+Guu Deluxe #1
9:00pm [break]
9:45pm Paradise Kiss #5-6
10:45pm Le Chevalier D'Eon #11-12 (dubbed)
Note that Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya will be ending the next show after (March), so make sure you provide a idea for a new regular series on our request list at this show. It could even be Spice and Wolf! (which is set to be a short series in Japan)
