Daily planner [17 Nov 2009|07:48pm]

kangaeroo
I enjoyed compiling this daily planner and I learned a few things too. I lists the birthdays of both Union and Confederate generals with some naval officers and others as well. I was surprised to Find that Henry Morton Stanley the explorer of Africa and finder of Dr Livingstone fought on both sides during the civil war.

70th Ohio Vol. Reg...need help. [18 Jun 2009|04:09pm]

foxtoon
How do, it is Russell Dickson coming to you once more.
Just felt like writing a little.
Maybe some one can help me out on a few things, if they read this.
The 70th Ohio Volunteer Regiment Civil War group I belong to is getting stagnant. That may be a bit harsh.
See at the age of 42 I was one of the youngest members. Until Rob joined up.
Rob, is about 32, or so, and want to reenact battles. Thing is most of the 70th Ohio Volunteer Regiment is getting to old to take the field. My own work load has gotten grater over the years, or feels like it.

Rob feel like it is time to get new members that can march and fight. He is right. Went a group gets smaller and smaller, it will die.

But, I also fear infighting and back biting. People getting into clicks. And, so on.

I want to group to grow, but not get into fights.

I not sure what to do.

Just roll with it for now, see what happens.

See you all soon

Entertaining history. [07 Jun 2009|03:19pm]

brusilov_14
Has bought the newspaper "газета по киевски", Friday, 05.06.2009, №102(1520)
I read section "Many years ago this day".

Also I see there the most interesting fact that 05.06.1851 the notorious book of Garriet Bicher-Stou "Uncle Tom's Cabin" has left in the press. But it is interesting not, and circulation, big even to present measures - 300000(Three hundred thousand). On the same times simply astronomical, after all all population of the USA was 30 million.
And in the same place Avraam Linkolna's words what exactly this book has served as the reason of civil war in the USA 1861-1865 have been given

Here also there is a question - who has financed the edition of this book in such huge circulation? Who provoked Civil war in the USA?

P.S.I will forgive pardons for bad English as badly him I own. I live in Kiev, Ukraine.

Colonial Civil War Medici style ballgown [02 Jun 2009|08:39pm]

degeneratebliss
After much thought and consideration, I have decided to sell my ball gown. I used to be very active in Civil War Reenactments, and this was my labour of love.

The description... )

This is a one of a kind piece, hand-made with love and attention to detail. Don't settle for mass-manufactured ballgowns..go with something unique and beautiful as you are. My reserve is set at $200, which is a steal for such a gorgeous piece.

[08 Dec 2008|02:59pm]

brusilov_14

Antietam National Battlefield Memorial Illumination [07 Dec 2008|08:21pm]

vondahugnkiss
On the first Saturday of December, the Antietam National Battlefield has The Memorial Illumination where they place over 23,000 candles, one for each soldier killed, wounded or missing during the battle in 1862. This was my first attempt at viewing these. The way it operates is that you line up in your car on the highway and then slowly drive through the battlefield. I had to line up about one mile from the entrance, which meant it took an hour just to get to the entrance and then an hour in the park. It was worth it and very hard to put into words!

This is the best of the pictures taken from when I walked around:

These help show the enormity of the project:
